Hooly fucking shit, Howard, that was so close. In this Halloween crowd you might just be able to shake off that hulking cunt. You'd think in the year of our lord twenty-twenty-fuck that an esteemed member of the 'Vampires STINK Association' that they'd be more inclined to use subtle ways to come get said vampire. Tax evasion, ID forgery, litcherelly anything.
Slinking through the crowds of whippersnappers in skimpy renditions of television show characters and funny ironic cosplays (gen zed's pretty dang funny if he may say so himself), he hoped that it'd be easier to lose his scent beneath the stench of pregaming booze and high-fructose corn syrup.
Jeez, the town's really coming to life, parties chock-a-block through the road, closed up for the celebrations. He couldn't stay out for long though. Need to get somewhere quieter and hide until daytime comes. Surely these fucking hunters have a day job, it's modern day America, killing vamps won't clear that mortgage payment. (Or will it? He shudders to think that maybe the government are giving them grants just to keep shit covered with a lid.)
He made a turn, jumped over a storey to get to a fire staircase, and jogged his way up to seem normal and not at all like a vampire on the loose. On the rooftops, when the fireworks starts, he'd be able to make his way to a safehouse.
Not that he breathed anymore these days (it's been a few days, about 73000 days...) but he did feel like he was losing his breath when he got to the rooftop of this random building he found himself at. Maybe the weight of the tension lifting off physically made it easier for him to draw in his breath and flex his lung muscles, who knows.
"Let's not do that again, Howie," he said to himself. I know you say that, but it's not really your fault you're a musky husky vampy. Life's like that. "Yeah, yeah. Try to be careful."
Outside looking in he looked as if he was hyping himself up for something, muttering positive affirmations to himself...
