what flower would you relate to Hiei?
Blackhellebore. Despite its name, it doesn’t naturally have blackflowers, but it can be hybridized with a similar species to havebeautiful black blossoms, and that is the kind I relate most to Hiei, being a hybrid in his own right. It’s a winter-blooming flower that is alreadyassociated with summoning/exorcising demons, so there’s that.
Helleboreis dangerous and toxic, so handling the plant requires certainprecautions and know-how, much like Hiei—but luckily our residentplant wielding fox knows the in and outs of handling both. Itspoisons can cause burning sensations on the skin, which is fittingfor obvious reasons. It’s not widely used in medicine anymorebecause it’s so toxic, but it does have medicinal properties. It’sa flower that can do a lot of bad but does do some good as well.
Thatand it just looks cool. The deep black flowers, many havingundertones of red or purple tinge to them, with the white stemclusters toward the center reminds me of Hiei and the “starburst”of white in his hair. It blooms in late winter, Hiei comes from a frozen land, proving that worthwhile and beautiful things can come from harsh conditions–okay that might be layering on the poetic imagery too thick but I stand by my comparison.
Onebook I have on flower symbolism lists hellebore’s flower languageas “Relieve my anxiety”, which I find interesting for canon Hiei, andfitting for Hiei in “Angels”, lol.
