A kooky and fun roadside "Americana" attraction awaited us in Moab called "Hole n the Rock".   It's a 5000 square foot home AND old diner carved into the side of a mountain! Albert Christensen lived there after working on it for years with his brother and wife, but technically his father started it as a small shelter for Albert and his brother while he farmed. In the 50's they had a diner where the gift shop currently is. Albert died in 1957, but his wife, Gladys, continued adding to it until she too passed away. Hole N” the Rock, Utah. The cave was once used by cowboys to sleep in the early 20th Century. In 1945, brothers Albert and Leo Christensen founded the Hole N" the Rock Diner. In 12 years, Albert dug 50,000 of cubic feet of sandstone, making way for a 14-room house. When Albert died in 1957, his wife Gladys, in keeping with his wishes & lifelong dreams continued to develop the property, opening a gift shop and giving tours of her home until she passed away in 1974.
