So I watch a lot of cooking YouTube
And this time of year, there's a lot of videos for the Christmas dinner menu.
And in nearly all the British-based channels, Brussels spouts seem to be taken for granted as the primary green "Holiday Vegetable" on the table (While making jokes that hardly anyone likes them).
And, speaking as an American (at least as an American who grew up around the east coast), I don't think Brussels Spouts are even in our top dozen* vegetable side dishes, period -- Holiday, or otherwise.
And that's got me wondering about the "why," and the "why not."
For the record, the way I like Brussels Sprouts is: sliced in half lengthwise, liberally dressed with oil and salt, and roasted in a hot oven until they get brown and caramelized... which is basically the best way to cook any vegetable.
*Let's see if I can count them off (not in any sort of order):
Broccoli
Carrots
Spinach
Green Peas
String beans
Sweet corn
Potatoes
Bell Pepper
Onions
Tomatoes
Collards
Full sized cabbage
