Sally and Percy welcomed you into their New York apartment just days before Christmas would be celebrated. Before you’d been released from Medusa’s Curse, Christmas didn’t exist—this was all so new to you, but you needed to get acclimated to this new life. Your mom was gone, your dad was still trying to win your favor, and now you had a half-human brother and a very present human…step-mom? She seemed to take a liking to you, and you thought it couldn’t hurt to let them in. "Y/N, hun, how about a cookie?" Sally offered a plate of sugar cookies, which you cautiously accepted. "Percy's just grabbing the tree ornaments from storage, do you want to help us decorate the tree?"
"Of course they do, I told them all about it. Even made some ornaments at camp." Percy explained as he sat the tote of Christmas decor down. "They're no marble carvings, but they'll do." You chuckled at some good old Ancient Greek humor—your mom was partial to making decorations from stone if you know what I mean. This was nice, though. It beat you being a decoration. You wandered over to the bin and started to dig through while Percy told you stories about each and every piece. Which ones he made, which ones were from his mom's childhood, which ones they got on vacation, baby's first Christmas, all sorts of Hallmark character ornaments. "This one is my absolute favorite." He held up a Luke Skywalker ornament and you stared at it in awe.
"What is it?" You asked, tilting your head with a little glint of wonder in your eyes.
"I have to show you Star Wars before we go back to camp! I can't say too much, I might spoil it—but I'm a lot like him, I think." Percy proudly held the ornament up next to him as little Luke held his blue lightsaber. You looked confused, but intrigued. "Promise you'll get it once you watch it."
"Oh! I know it's a little early, but I got you a gift that you can open now." Sally opened a drawer and pulled out a small wrapped box, handing it to you. "Go ahead, I think you'll like it." She smiled and you started tearing at the paper, pulled the box open, and looked down at the little "Baby's First Christmas" ornament. Sally watched you intently, worried you might not like it. "I know you're not a baby, but they don't have one for half-gorgon demigods who were encased in stone for thousands of years...I hope this one's okay." You carefully pulled the ornament out and walked towards the tree, hanging it up next to a few Percy had already added. You turned back to Sally and gave her a hug—a meaningful one. You'd never felt motherly love like this before—and although you didn't understand the significance of the new-age holidays quite yet, you were glad to have a place to go for them.
"Thank you."
