Paper Street Dolls
Posted on 24/04/2016 by Holly Dowling
Right my fabulous readers, what do the amazing Anne Johnston Photography, Veiled Productions, Talk of the Town Parties, Lucy Hannah Photography and Flash Floozy all have in common? That’s right, they are all incredible independent wedding suppliers that have been featured in my blog and in my personal wedding directory, and I met them all on Twitter’s weekly networking event, #weddinghour. And guess what? That’s also where I met this weeks wonderful featured supplier, Paper Street Dolls!
Paper Street Dolls is an independent business run by two sisters, Julie and Claire, who have a life long passion for paper (and decorating to the max!) and create luxury handmade paper decorations with character, which are all designed and stitched in their Studio in Glasgow. Having both graduated from the Glasgow School of Art (where Julie studied Visual Communication and Claire studied Textiles), they combine their individual skills to create artisanal paper decorations with consideration and attention to detail at every stage, from the colour and design to the paper and thread used.
Julie and Claire have a wide range of products to offer, including hand-painted and plain colour garlands (in three different shapes and sizes), wedding chair garlands that are a modern update on the traditional white fabric covers, customisable letter banners, and even their spin on paper tassels that can be used for backdrops or other fringed decor (perfect for that DIY wedding photo booth if you ask me!).
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “surely that amount of paper is going to be bad for the environment, right?”. Wrong! Julie and Claire are incredibly environmentally friendly, and not only are all of their decorations made with paper sourced from mills in the UK and France, but, as a part of their conscientious approach, their packaging also doubles as storage and they ship their products in recyclable bags! They essentially want to make things that can be kept as beautiful keepsakes of a wedding, party or celebration, which can also be stored and re-used for years to come. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me! Julie and Claire have also always made their own decorations and it wasn’t until last year, after compliments and custom requests from their friends, that they decided to put their decorations out to the world! (As if this business has only been running a year?!). They pride themselves on always developing new ideas, and what they love most about breaking into the wedding world is being able to provide couples with something that is fun, beautiful and a little different from the conventional, colourful and custom décor, that also reflects their style and adds to the joy of their day. And you won’t need to worry about turning up to a wedding with the same decorations as you! Unlike anything else on the market, Julie and Claire’s garlands are hand painted and marbled in a variety of different techniques, making each strand unique, and their process is adaptable to creating garlands with specific colour palettes, depending on what you want and need. Not only that, but all of their garlands are generously filled, and as they create all of their décor in house, they can supply a totally complimentary range of decorations across all their items. How good is that?!
So, if you’re interested in asking Julie and Claire to create some gorgeous unique, handmade paper decorations for your big day (that are also incredibly environmentally friendly!), then you can have a little look at their work and contact them via their Paper Street Dolls Website, Etsy, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr pages!
