Featured Article: Marble House

This week's Featured Article is focused on Hollywoodgrrl's popular and widely debated fan video “Marble House” from the Doctor Who fandom, originally shown at 2009 Vividcon.

The musical score of the video featuring the song by the same name as the title of the video, “Marble House” by The Knife, has lyrics that invoke the imagery of a beautiful but cold home and uses the grungy alternative music sound to create a dark ambiance to overlay these relationships. This song being carefully picked by Hollywoodgrrl to describe the relationship felt between Martha Jones and the Time Lord in these episodes as well as the destruction that is left behind not just between the two of them but on the world

Oh, I have a treat this week. I wish so much the editor of this luscious vid had had access to the 4k upscale because what @hollywoodgrrl manages to do with a seventeen year old upload quality and video tools is poetry. Watch it on the dark on your phone, and just give in to the gloom.

A dirge or a dance? I don't know. It's sad. It's an aching emotive piece about John and Aeryn always running out of time, always too late. The song, Last Train by Travis, was unknown to me until this ended up in my queue, but you know this is on my writing playlist now. Gritty, painful, it just pairs beautifully with the stuttering visuals.

Wasn't their relationship always stumbling? I love the flashes of stark lighting like clarity in the darkest hour. The shuddering pull backs of distance, of fate tearing them apart.

Throwing a little flash warning because I think it's slow enough, blinking with the beat, to not be a problem, but just in case. But ugh, the clicks and fades just dig into my soul. Maybe I'm just feeling sentimental, lonely, scared. But this brings the angst from first note to last. Enjoy.

Just FYI, to the previous anon who asked about Cate's nude scenes. The closest thing she's ever done to anything like that is her work in Little Fish. She was very candid about the importance of the film back in 2005 and it was 100% her body.
