Concerning #HomelessatHoward:
On first read of the situation, I thought that the guy made a stupid move sneaking people into Towers and got exactly what he deserved. Literally a second after that thought finished itself, I changed my mind. Howard had already institutionalized my mind, made me forget that 1) No one should be left without a home for a first offense, especially a young adult far away from home and 2) Outside of HBCU culture, the concept of visitation is nearly nonexistent. It's a set of antiquated and respectable rules, more of a performance for older Black people and white sponsors who hypersexualize young Black people than for the safety of the actual students. We know this because of Howard's history of dealing with sexual assau-*laptop dies*
So yea, Howard has got to move forward, structurally, socially and politically. This constant clash between its liberal student body and conservative administration will only get worse as the years progress. And I'll take the students' side. Every time.
