#Repost @colvinology Wedge, a 6.6% IPA from HOMES Brewery (@homesbrewery) with Sabro, Strata, and Chinook hops, and the Master Grade Qubeley Damned . Spectacular aromas of apricot, orange, and unripe nectarine blended with herbal hops, crackers, and a wonderfully tropical backbone. The sip is light and fruity, hitting first with a burst of juicy apricot and unripe stone fruit that while flavorful, doesn't get into that overt "juice bomb" territory. There's a bitterness so mild you may not even notice it as it crops up mid-sip, but nevertheless lingers into the spectacularly clean, almost dry finish. The mix of tropical and stone fruit flavors, combined with the relative lightness of the profile almost beg you to take another sip, no matter how much you've already had. The result is a beer that, having slammed the other 3 already, I can say is insanely chuggable. Now, usually that just means it's light enough that the average drinker won't feel bogged down trying to slam it. Every so often however—as is the case here— it means that a beer has enough flavor that it by all rights should be something you'd sip, but due to some brewing wizardry, the body is light enough and the after flavors fade quickly enough to invite an absolutely inadvisable level of drinking debauchery. Basically, it's got the flavor and punch of a much stronger and heavier beer, but in a package that—and I can't stress this enough— is an absolutely amazing drinking experience. Now, I'm willing to concede that I'm biased when it comes to Michigan beer, especially HOMES, but man...I'm a little sad that this is my last can. I may just have to make another brewery trip soon. You should too, if you for some reason find yourself in or around Ann Arbor Michigan. Or you can just wait until I get more cans and roll your eyes as I talk about how good they are 😂. #Repost @colvinology Metaform grape, a 6.6% sour ipa from HOMES Brewing (@homesbrewery) with lactose, dry hopped with mosaic, blended with concord grape and aged on vanilla bean, and the Metal Build Gundam Astrea Type X Finsternis . Aromas are lactose funk, creamy vanilla, and concord grape juice. There's also a definite red wine quality on the nose, although that may just be my non-wine nose smelling "grapes and booze" 😂. The sip hits immediately with sweet grape and vanilla, approximating what I imagine grape ice cream would taste like...or at the very least a grape popsicle stuck in a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Either way it's sweet and refreshing, with just a bit of lactose funk balancing out that grape and vanilla. According to my database of past reviews (also known as my Google Notes), this is the 4th Metaform I've reviewed, along with the Guava, Peach, and Passionfruit variants. This is a bit lighter and brighter than I remember those being, and a lot closer to grape juice than say, the Guava version, which leaned much closer to fruit puree. That change is probably due to the nature of working with grapes, which are mostly water. Overall, it tastes a lot like if you were to make a milkshake out of grape juice and ice cream…Something I hadn't thought of before, but now think might actually be a great idea. Mostly though, I'm just glad for any opportunity to shout-out HOMES Brewery. Those of you who followed more recently don't know how absolutely obnoxious I can be about praising these guys, but don't worry you'll find out soon 😂. #Repost @colvinology Cynosure, a sour IPA from HOMES Brewery (@homesbrewery) with blueberry, raspberry, and lemon, and the Master Grade Gundam Barbatos . Okay, you already know what I'm going to say: of course this smells amazing. The aroma is mostly raspberry and lemon, with the more mellow blueberry notes fading mostly into the background. There's also no discernable hoppiness on the nose; if you told me to identify this by smell alone, I'd swear it was a normal fruited sour. The sip hits right out the gate with some really nice ripe raspberry tartness, along with a dose of lemon pucker, and the taste of dried blueberries bringing up the rear. The aftertaste is akin to eating a handful of the assorted dried fruit pieces from a hearty bag of trail mix. As I get deeper into the beer, I'm starting to pick up a flavor that I *think* is orange, which could be an indication of this brew's IPA roots...but I could also be going crazy 😂. Either way, this beer is fantastic, and if you're already tired of me gassing up HOMES, bad news: because I'm definitely going back for more. #Repost @colvinology ・・・ This Halloween, the grim specter of Death brings you HOMES' (@homesbrewery) Black & Orange Sherbet: a kettle sour brewed with milk sugar and blended with Blackberry and Orange (5.8%), and the Master Grade Gundam Deathscythe Hell (Endless Waltz Version) . Everything about this beer is beautiful. The aromas coming off of it are fresh mashed blackberry, fresh squeezed orange juice, and a slight Orange Julius-like sweetness. The taste is tart berry, fresh, lightly sour orange citrus, and notes of ice cream towards the end that lead into a light berry finish that lingers. It's smooth, the color is beautiful, and it's so fruity you almost expect to bite down and feel little blackberry seeds; it's honestly a masterpiece. At this point though, you should know HOMES brings that fire.
