One day I will get my classroom organized just how I like it...and then Munchkin will graduate and be off to college. Such is life. Then it will be time to sell everything and turn the apartment into, what will most likely be...her first apartment. It will be a bitter sweet adjustment for us. But for now...it is the CLASSROOM! You will notice I haven’t shown you the desk we work at. And that’s for a really good reason! We don’t have one. lol. We had one last year that was movable. It was a piece of wood on top of 4 rolling plastic carts with drawers. But, it didn’t work the way I hoped it would so I nixed that one this year. Mad scientist is going to build a fold down table attached to the wall with the spelling word list so that I can fold up the table when we want the free space. I need this space to be as diverse as possible. And that means furniture that can disappear at a moment’s notice. Until then we do stuff however it works...and sometimes that requires a fold up table. (But it’s big and bulky and honestly, even when it’s needed...it’s in the way!)
Working on the Classroom
People have been asking questions lately since it is the beginning of the school year. What does your classroom look like? Well, I’m here to tell you about ours. I don’t know why, but the previous owners enclosed the garage at the house, finished it wonderfully to be a family room (aka: the play room now) and built a detached garage. (I think they planned for this all along because it was built a few years after the house was and they had more than enough supplies to finish the outside of the house and the garage with the same stuff they built the rest of the house with.) Here’s where it gets a little strange. They built two rooms onto the garage. We call it “the apartment.” In all honesty, with a little work and a wall built it could actually be an apartment. The “upper level” (the lower level has three steps up to get inside the upper level lol) has a kitchen area, full bathroom, and a big walk in closet. It’s really strange, I know. But it works GREAT for a classroom because we have a fridge, stove and a sink for science class, a bathroom so we don’t have to go to the house to pee, and a closet to store a lot of supplies in. Plus, if the water heater goes out, we have a second water heater that we can use as a back up! HOT showers even with a broken water heater!!! Power outage in the summer? Hook up the generator and we can have air, lights and watch tv in “the apartment.” So, I thought I’d offer some pictures up. The love seat isn’t shown, but we have one in there to read books, chill out, or take a break.
