Tai had been antsy for a good part of the evening, clearly something bouncing around in his head. Finally, as he and Qrow sat out on the deck, the clear night sky of Patch overhead... he finally spit out what was going on in his head... and more so... his heart.

Platonic Requests For Affection || Accepting

He knows and doesn’t say a word at first, simply reaching out and taking those shaky hands in his. His expression is gentle despite that shadow of concern. Tenderly he just lets his thumbs brush over skin. “It’s okay Qrow,” he finally soothes. “You’ll be alright, I promise. I’m not going anywhere.”

Protective Sentence Starters || Accepting

Tai wished he could ask where this was coming from but sadly he knew all too well. It was something that he knew Qrow was constantly afraid of and no amount of convincing on his own part could ever seem to change it. 

The feeling of Qrow’s hands wrapped into the fabric of his shirt, the pain in those faded eyes, Tai’s heart broke seeing it. “You’re not going to, not if I can help it Qrow.” His voice was steady and soothing, at least as best as it could be when his own chest ached so painfully.

“I’m only going into Vale, to Beacon, because Barty and Peter asked me to. They need help Qrow and I can’t just sit here anymore, I have to do something. The Grimm have finally started to retreat but there’s still the matter of the Tower... someone has to try and take that thing out if we’re ever going to be able to rebuild it... and there’s not many huntsman out there with the raw strength I have and might stand a chance against it if that petrification Ruby did to it doesn’t stick...”

Slowly his hand started to rub at Qrow’s back. “I know you understand having a duty... and... I... I’ve been hiding away as a teacher for too long. I need to get back into the field, back into the fight. How can I in good conscience encourage these kids to do it if I won’t do it myself?”

The last thing he had expected was exactly what was happening...

At this point Tai had gotten far too accustomed to having this Queen bed all to himself but it hadn’t made it any easier to deal with. Over the years he’d toyed with the idea of downsizing it in a hope to make it feel less empty. Even now, with Qrow there, with things more out in the open between them, he still stayed in the guest room. He’d even retreat there afterwards when they were together. It was just something Tai had come to expect when it came to Qrow and his... quirky... personality. 

That didn’t change the empty that came with falling asleep in it alone though.

He’d just about won the nightly battle with that empty feeling and started to fall into sleep when he heard the door of his room open. Quiet footsteps followed and Tai’s half asleep and blurred vision just barely had time to register that it was Qrow when the blankets were pulled back. 

“Qrow... wha...” The words drawled from his lips as the empty side of the bed became filled by his dopey bird. There were no words, just a look in Qrow’s eyes as they met with Tai’s. That look was more than enough and Tai knew what brought Qrow in here.

He was wrestling with late night demons of his own and was no more keen on dealing with them alone than Tai was with his own.

Reaching out, Tai slipped his arm around Qrow’s waist, as he did Qrow scooted closer as if Tai were actually pulling him closer. Of course, he would move in to meet him, wrapping Qrow up with every bit of himself that he could. The way he seemed to curl up so small in that embrace, Tai’s heart ached. He knew that Qrow was feeling small from the weight of the too numerous things he knew the other was blaming himself for.

“It’s okay,” he quietly soothed, cuddling Qrow tenderly. “I got you...”

Neither of us has to be alone, at least not tonight.

From Best Friend To... Starters || Accepting

“What’s wrong with that?” Tai shrugged. “I mean...” Okay so they hadn’t really talked about it after, well, after whatever had happened the other night but Tai thought he’d made his intentions pretty clear when he’d kissed Qrow. Maybe it hadn’t been as obvious as he’d thought. “Well, I didn’t kiss you for nothing Qrow...”

Simping Softness || Accepting

Mustard brows furrowed as his arms crossed over his chest. “If that was the answer Qrow, I’d do it myself.” Of course he couldn’t help the heavy sigh that went with that. Dealing with over protective parents was probably the worst part of being an educator.

Not that Tai was MUCH better, but at least he knew how to let instructors alone and let them do what they needed to.

“The last thing I need is to stir up this hornet’s nest any more than it already has been. Besides, they’ll cool off, they always do. One minor injury is easily forgotten when they find something they think is worse to focus their hot air on.”
