I've had this in my head for quite some time, but I was too busy with other things to actually do this so I did this over last weekend.
I thought, we've all got a head full of amazing ideas that we should be able to work out and make something marvellous out of. But many of those ideas require skills you don't have. Especially in the fandoms I think, we like to dream up stories and images but we can't write. Or edit. Me, for example. I'm having serious trouble writing this post. So I thought, why isn't there some place for us to go and find people who do have the skills? Why isn't there a place, for us, to be creative and innovative; to expand our favourite universes and make them even greater than they already are?
So I want to make a place. With your help. So we can all be creative and we can all contribute to our fandoms. Of course, it wouldn't only be for fandoms. Everyone would be welcome.
The general idea is that you sign up on the platform quickly and easily as either a skilled person with a lack of inspiration or someone with ideas but without the skills they need (or both, of course). Both parties are then put in a team so they can discuss how and what they want to do.
I explained all of this and more here.
Since Tumblr made me think of this and made me want to start this, I've also made a Tumblr for the project. I will be posting updates on the status of the projects and such, which I will tag with theplatformproject. You will also find a few links there.
I made a simple webpage where I collected the links mentioned above.
A project like this requires many hands. Vonlunteers. People who are good at programming and design and who would like to help. Anyone who would like to help can fill in this form.
People who don't have any knowledge of web designing or programming but who would still like to help, can fill in this form to input their suggestions and ideas. This way the platform will really become a place everyone's happy with.
Anyone who wants to be kept up-to-date can follow the project's blog or subscribe to the mailinglist.
You can find all of these forms on the project's Tumblr and in the online brochure mentioned above.
I really hope y'all are as enthusiastic about this as I am. I feel this could become a great thing. A great thing built by all of us. Together.
(By the way, if you could reblog this to inform more people, that would be great too (; )
