I hate when people say “no one is transitioning minors” or “no minors are getting hormones/surgeries/etc”.
Because that’s just not true. I don’t care about the statistics because I fucking lived through it.
I’m from a very blue state, and when I was 15, my close friend (14) announced that they were going on testosterone. In their same grade were three others, two of whom started testosterone their sophomore year of high school and one who was already on it since freshman year. For reference, freshmen are typically 13-14, and sophomores are typically 14-15. From what I know now from keeping in contact with them is that the entirety of their friend group has come out as trans in some way, one in waiting for top surgery and one just now starting hormones at 17.
My friend who was on hormones at 14, a year later went off testosterone and was on estrogen briefly in an attempt to undo some of their transition because they reidentified from trans ftm to nonbinary and the testosterone hadn’t given them any satisfaction in their physical appearance. This friend was on puberty blockers since we were in middle school together, and confessed to me that they didn’t want to go off them because they were scared of looking their age, because they’d looked like a child for so long. At 16, they had gotten top surgery.
All this to say, it happens. And I’m not putting this out here to get all preachy about “look at these poor misguided kids” or, “kill the evil transes”, I literally just cannot stand letting that false narrative of “no minors medically transition” go around, I’ve been OCD spiraling about it all week because my dysphoria is acting up again and that makes me hyperfixate on my transition and detransition.
