This is bonkers to me. Learning that Adam Savage built my Homeworld 3 Hiigaran Interceptor design makes me feel like when Homer discovered Mr. Sparkeru...
So Homeworld 3 fuckin' SLAPS
I'm having such a great time, I got my spaceships out there doin' spaceship things! Love the hyperspace gates, it's nice having some terrain in a Homeworld game and they really add to that much-beloved Space Is Big And Mysterious vibes of the series. Honestly a fan of resource collectors and controllers being folded into one unit for the sake of my sanity (trying to get my harvesting operations to not go stupid on big maps back in 1 has been a problem for me)
The comms chatter is just *chef's kiss* PERFECTION and the fact the game tells me the names of my pilots/captains is just so HOMEWORLD I LOVE IT!
Homeworld beginning is insane because imagine your race finally make their first star ship, thinking you'll be the first planet that will achieve space travel and explore the vast ocean of the galaxy, you finally go into space and test your hyperspace capabilities!
And the first thing that happened is you get attacked by an "alien" and the alien goes "These fuckers are back!?"
Comparing the Homeworld Motherships
After playing Homeworld 3, I was curious about how the new Motherships compared to the ones in the prior games. I exported the models and textures, and set up this comparison, after cross-checking the in-game sizes.
From left to right, the original Mothership from Homeworld, the Kuun-Lan from Homeworld: Cataclysm (later retitled Emergence), with it's initial configuration above and its endgame configuration below, the Pride of Hiigara from Homeworld 2, the Khar-Sajuuk from Homeworld 3, and the Khar-Kushan from Homeworld 3. Below them is the ancient starship Sajuuk from Homeworld 2.
While these are the correct sizes, the Homeworld 3 motherships seemed a bit small. It seems to me that the triangular module that holds the three hyperspace cores should be the same size as the one on Sajuuk, which it was adapted from. I rescaled those two motherships to be consistent with the Sajuuk model, and got this:
