After a bit of being split up from Garnet, well, Ruby found she needed things to do to feel close to the ones she loved in.. quite the same way.

She’d spent time with Steven, who’d forced her into his most comfy pajamas, attempted to style her fluffy mass of hair, and painted her nails- she’d spent time with Amethyst, who was chill with just teaching Ruby more about her favorite video games- and she’d spent time with Pearl, simply drinking tea (she didn’t like it, but she wouldn’t tell Pearl) and chatting idly about life.

Now, she made her way to find her precious Sapphire after all, a Sapphire with too much free time could.. think too much. And she preferred having her close. “Sapphire?”

Time spent unfused was meant to be treasured, and today was no exception. Ruby and Sapphire were settled on the couch, just quietly enjoying each other’s company, with Cat-Steven curled up nearby. That wasn’t quite enough for Ruby, though. She wanted to snuggle just a little more. So, she scooted closer to Sapphire and started to put her arms around the blue Gem.

“Sapphyyy...” It was safe to say that Ruby felt like being a cuddle bug that day. Nothing was going to stop her. “I love you.” That was probably the dumbest and most obvious thing to say. She didn’t care, though.

“ pearl said i can borrow you. she believes that your sword-wielding skills are up to par for this mission. ”     at first peridot had argued with pearl -- she didn’t want a human going with her. this is a SUPER important mission, after all ( it’s why she was put in charge of it ), and she can’t have liabilities because of her companion. she would have even been okay with steven; at least he’s half gem -- but pearl insisted. and how could peridot say no to such a... face?     “ i just need you as back up; if anything, i will likely be the one protecting you. this is a very dangerous mission, after all... i wouldn’t blame you if you aren’t up for it. ”

               “I THINK PERHAPS I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO RULE.”     your eyes stay fixated upon the points of your boots; they snake up your ankles to mid-calf, a deep navy in colour, punctuated with a flat heel that only serves to make you appear more intimidating with the way it clicks upon ground. you certainly do not feel it. you can put on a front, an act, and perhaps you will believe it on occasion, but you cannot escape the feeling of helplessness from time to time.     “what was i thinking? the others...pink and yellow and white, they are so capable, even with their struggles. who am i, to even try to lead these people?”

blue pearl stands obediently beside her diamond’s throne, fingers interlaced and held to the floor. the floors of her diamonds ship shake beneath her feet, she keeps her eyes to the floor despite her yearning to look out the windows.

she knew they were going to earth, and she could only assume it was for her diamond to mourn. she’d been so torn up about pinks shattering, blue pearl couldn’t help but grieve for her diamond as her diamond grieved for her younger.

as the blue monarch landed the ship blue pearl prepared for her palanquin to be released to earths surface. she called amethysts to make the preparations, and returned to wait for her diamond’s commands.
