so one of the longest-term jokes in my marriage is my (midwestern american) spouse accusing me of being a “sekrit canadian” because i’m from vermont & have a french surname & was raised by hippies. anyway, nothing about the past month of me making him watch jacob tierney’s oeuvre has helped with this, lol. but i persevere in the face of affectionate trolling!

lol, i put on shoresy and my husband asked me why the fuck we’re watching a hockey show that isn’t even gay.

so i’ve been snotty delirious sick for days. i’m starting to feel slightly better but sweet husband is still trying to be extra-sweet & let me have whatever i want—food, teevee shows, etc. on a scale of 1-10, how evil would it be for me to test the strength of this marriage by choosing star trek: voyager s02e15 “threshold” as this evening’s entertainment? i just think it’s an experience that could only be improved by cold medicine. 🙃

husband wasn’t really watching bridgerton with me yesterday, but whatever he did catch prompted him to suggest that “we need to find a nice girl for eloise.” to which, i said, “not too nice.”

recently learned that i am now eligible for canadian citizenship by descent via my québécois great-grandfather (!) since they just got rid of the “first generation limit” in december 2025. i heard about this because a trans friend in washington state is thinking about applying in order to escape how fucked up & dangerous our country has become. the canadian expats in my “knitting coven” think that at least part of the impetus for this change is to help people like my friend who are really scared (although i haven’t seen anything to that effect in the official reasoning behind it).

this is wild. especially in border states like vermont & washington, a fucking lot of us are related to canadians! and according this article a lot more americans are actually doing this than previously.

currently arguing with my husband about whether ilya rozanov’s favorite superhero is a) batman (his choice bc: a gay icon, is a womanizer but secretly only loves one (1) man [the original robin who is now nightwing], has bling-ass car, handsome & rich, well-known even amongst non-geeks) or yelena belova (hot, deadly, russian, prickly on the outside but mushy on the inside, younger sibling + family trauma, betrayed by russian gov’t, looks good in eyeliner, even non-geeks have seen marvel movies & ilya likes women as people).

shoutout to my husband for staying calm and hand grating potatoes & onion for latkes yesterday when i nearly had a mental breakdown over my inability to find the cuisinart grating attachment. only to be rewarded by me freaking out loudly on the phone after midnight about The Hockey Show. 💖
