hiii! this is such a late reply but i hope you don't mind! yep the clownery is REAL lmaooo but i actually have a theory about the bet that the lovely alexa @honeyaoki wrote about in their fic here! summarised, we basically think that the bet could be sort of a cover for them to be close and get their parents used to the idea of them being friends or something more. as we've seen, their families really stoke the rivalry between them, and by twisting their relationship to be competitive, it provides an excuse as to why they're close and spend time with each other. furthermore, they could continue keeping their relationship alive/open without the looming fear of their parents finding out hanging over their heads. and when their families warm up to them enough, they'd be able to reveal the truth: that they actually want to be or are together.
rewatching the trailer made me think about how plausible this theory really is, actually! around the 2:08 mark, pat says: "this can reconcile the relationship between our families." that's a point of conflict for the whole plot and keeps so much of their character motives moving, especially pran's. the bet as a tool to get their parents to warm up to the idea of them would be an interesting spin!
