love when dorothy has a little fun
reading descriptions like this one makes it very easy to remember that nicholas is The Most Character Ever and also so, so sexy
this is another scene i absolutely adore. that last line from nicholas kills me every time, it's so painful
and this scene is so deeply romantic, it makes me tear up. dunnett just wrote it so beautifully, and you really get the feeling that both her as an author and the characters within the story have earned this moment. it's crazy how nicholas and gelis get married in the same book that they start to truly know each other, but this still one of the best (and one of the slowest lol) slow burns out there. i wouldn't change anything about their romance as painful and insane and dangerous as it has been because all of it leads them to this moment and i just love it too much. AND, what's most important, we as readers still get a whole final book to enjoy their reconciliation
they're both so vulnerable here and they allow themselves to show it in front of each other which is so beautiful and heartbreaking after everything they've been through
PERFECT SCENE. i can't put into words how much i love it, how flawlessly it shows that nicholas and gelis were made for each other, and how in love they are. and specifically how much nicholas loves gelis, and how she's the one for him and has always been.
the callback to the date stones from book 4 is just so, so good, and only a madwoman like dorothy could pull it off.
this is the kind of romance that i adore. the chemistry, the unbreakable bond, the excitement in the most dangerous of situations that you can only really get in dynamics in which they're not only lovers, but partners.
in conclusion nicholas/gelis you will always be famous
kidnapped, probably about to be physically tortured, definitely about to be emotionally tortured, haven't seen each other in years, have been married-divorced for like a decade. but none of that matters it literally doesn't matter because finally finally they are together again. anyone else devastated
