Honeychain Volume 1, Chapter 10
“YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, KAZUKO!!!” Antoine rages at his daughter, who looked down at the floor in guilt and shame. “What reason was soooo important that you’d risk your life?” Rukia gives her a look. Kazuko sighs, knowing fully well how stupid she had been “I’m sorry....” Antoine pinches the bridge of his nose, his eyes screwed tightly shut “You just had us worried. What if something happened to you? And we didn’t know where you were going.” “Maybe if you let her learn how to use a gun and fight, Antoine, you wouldn’t have to babysit her every moment of her life.” Fudo leaned against the countertop, sipping a cold glass of water. “Oh shut up man” he turns back to his daughter, “You’re not to go out at all, for 3 weeks. And in that time....” He looks to Fudo “Want her to learn how to fight so badly? Teach her.” Fudo and Kazuko stare at Antoine and then at each other. He had never let Kazuko anywhere near a gun, much less learn how to use one. Maybe the recent expedition was helpful after all.... “But don't think just because I'm letting you learn that this means you can just go out alone any time you want.” He reminds his daughter. She nods, grinning, she always wanted to be able to fight just like everyone else. Chris gives her a thumbs up behind Antoine’s back. (i havent written in SO long and sorry for the short chapter i just wanted to post)

Honeychain Volume 1, Chapter 9
The two walk along the streets, keeping keen eye on their surroundings. “You were pretty good with that handgun, what’s your specialty?” Kazuko asks. Tory strikes a pose with her hands “I’m a dancer.” They grin “You?” “I make Robots.” She smiles. “Oooh! Like super big mechas, or like.... Teeny tiny bugs?” They swing the gun on their finger. “All” Kazuko fiddles with the radio again, hoping she could find the signal. Shoma walks into Atsushi’s mechanic’s garage, watching silently as he works on a car, one he had been building all day from scratch. “Have you ever felt... happy... when you think of someone?” Shoma asks quietly. Atsushi doesn’t look up from his work “How long were you standing there?” “Answer the question.” He shifts his weight, mildly annoyed. Atsushi stands up, wiping his hands on his pants at he turn to Shoma “I guess I have. Why this all of a sudden?” Then he spies Kazuko’s hat in his hand. “Ohhh!” Atsushi grins “This is about Kazuko, isn’t it? She left her hat here?” Shoma scowls “No, it’s not.” Atsushi strides over, resting his hand on Shoma’s shoulder “Listen man, it’s okay to have a crush on someone, or even just think they’re kinda cool. I know you got your whole ‘i’ve sworn off having any friends, especially women’ thing, but all I’m saying is that it doesn’t hurt to let people in.” “It does.” He answers blandly. Atsushi rolls his eyes “I know this is about her, and she doesn’t seem like a bad per-” “No one does at first.” He gives him a pained look “Shoma..... You asked me a question, I'm answering you. And I’m telling you that if you want to be friends with her or whatever, you should, don’t let whatever happened to you in the past ruin your future, bro.” Shoma nods, not really believing him. Letting people in only lead to bad things. Surely Atsushi knew this? Still, he knew he was right. Kazuko didn’t seem like the kind of person to hurt anyone. Something about her.... They suddenly hear a knock on the door. Atsushi reaches for his pocket knife as he goes over, and opens the door. Kazuko’s eyes widen at the knife “Woah-” He laughs, embarrassed “Just a precaution, so you’re here for your hat? You might have to wrest it from Shoma, he wont let go of it.” “Um-” She blushes, looking over at Shoma who glares at her. Atsushi steps aside “C’mon in kid, who’s your friend here?” Tory grins at him “The name’s Tory. And you?” “Atsushi, nice to meet you. Damn you’re small” He laughs They stick their tongue out at him “Damn you’re the jolly green giant” Shoma strides over to Kazuko, holding out her beret “Your beret.” She looks down, avoiding meeting his eyes, his stern tone putting her on edge. He places it on her head “You shouldn’t leave your stuff around. It’s irresponsible.” She looks up at him, not rising her head. Shoma looks down at her, trying not to let the wild hammering of his heart in his chest show on his face. Why the fuck did she look at him like that? Like she was afraid of him.... Was she afraid of him? Should he ask? Tory and Atsushi look to both, then to each other, sharing a look. “Would you guys like to stay a bit?” Shoma finds himself asking, despite all sence. Kazuko finally says something “We- Um- We should go....” Dissapointment “That’s alright.” He watches as she again refuses to meet his eyes, says goodbye and leaves with her friend. He leans against the wall, staring at Atsushi. “That was a good start. Now maybe don’t sound so angry. Or glare at her”
Honeychain Volume 1, Chapter 8
“Mom, Dad!” Kazuko calls out as she pulls on a navy blue windbreaker she found in the hall closet “I’m going out real quick!” She grabs her radio and Chris’ hand gun, and runs out the house. She walks down the streets quickly, running only on her sudden burst of confidence, trying to remember the way. Fear crept in, reminding her of the Infected and the risk of being killed. She gripped the handgun firmly, pushing on. Suddenly she heard growls behind her. She froze, praying fervently that it wasn’t what she thought it was. Turning around shakily, she’s met with the sight of five Infected persons, their eyes clouded over and their skin a sickly pale color- almost translucent. Their lips were chapped and crusted with blood, their teeth were chipped and jagged, and their torn and ragged clothes were stained with blood. Kazuko let out a small cry, pulling out the gun and feeling quite stupid in the second she realized she had no idea now to use it. She had never been alone like this before. She had always been with someone, never had to defend herself. She fumbles with the radio next, trying to find the frequency, the one that would immobilize them. But it had been knocked out. The Infected started to run towards her, she held the gun out again, hoping against hope that she could figure it out and it would fire. A gunshot sounded. But it hadn’t come from her. “You can’t just freeze up like that!” A feminine sounding voice calls out to her, followed by more gunshots. Kazuko looks over and see’s a small person who wore so many colors they looked like the physical embodiment of a box of Crayola crayons. They run their fingers through their short and spiky black hair, and looks urgently at Kazuko with soft pink eyes the color of cotton candy. Kazuko looks down bashfully “I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention, I thought I could-” The person laughs, “Don’t worry, It’s okayyyy!” They walk over, grinning “Do you even know how to use that thing?” They gesture to the handgun. Kazuko laughs awkwardly “No... It’s my cousin’s....” “Figured it wasn’t yours, no offence. So why are you out here alone? You clearly cant use that gun and the frequency is down, so unless you were planning to fight the Infected hand-to-hand......” They give her a look. She felt pretty stupid now, having put her life in danger just for a hat. “I left something at.....” She searches for the world to describe her relation to Shoma but settles for default “a friend’s place.” The person snorts and fixes their glasses “Oh yeah I can see it now, ‘died for the sake of something they left at a friend’s place’. Speaking of which, what name would be on that tombstone?” Kazuko laughs “I’m Kazuko Hagakure.” She puts her hand out. The person smiles “Tory Barlowe, It’s great to meet ya!” they take her hand, shaking it enthusiastically. “So what’re you doing out here?” Kazuko asks, taking in Tory’s elegant stance and sure hold on their own gun. Tory gestures to the building behind them, “My girlfriend’s mom owns the hotel here. My dad is the bartender. I saw you from out the window so I decided to swoop in and save the day” they give Kazuko a goofy look. “You didn’t get switched in the Soiree?” Kazuko asks incredulously. They shake their head “We made sure to end up in the same City section, Asura built this place with everything she had in her. We won’t just.... Abandon it. You know?” She nods, even though she wasn’t quite sure she knew. “So where are you going? I should walk you there, so you don’t become zombie food.” Tory smiles. “I’m not sure? I mean, I know where I’m going, but only by sight.” Kazuko rambles. Tory nods, going to the entry of the Hotel “Let me just let my dad know, alright?” “Alright!” Kazuko smiles. They come back, grinning “Okay! Lets gooo!”
Honeychain Volume 1, Chapter 7
Shoma Hitsugi laid his medical tools all in a straight line. Just the way he liked it. He pulled off his scrub shirt and hangs it on a peg next to his tools’ table. Out of the corner of his eye he spots something that he could be sure did not belong in his office. A cerulean colored beret. It certainly wasn’t his, in fact it looked like it was a girl’s. It took him a moment to place it. Kazuko. This was hers. She must have left it there.... He crosses the room and picks it up, immediately noting its fragrance of vanilla and lavender. A warm feeling takes him over, was this how she smelled? He closes his eyes tightly, what the hell was he thinking, this warm feeling at the thought of her. She was a stranger, and a girl at that. He had sworn off ever getting tangled up with any women. So why.... Why couldn’t he stop thinking about her? Why did holding her beret, and smelling the scent of her, why did these things warm his heart and fill him with a good feeling? He stands there for a few moments, unsure of what to do with it. Should he give it to her? He didn’t even know where she lived..... Should he tell Atsushi? He would probably make a big deal out of it. And thinking about his greasy hands touching her beret- Kazuko Hagakure lay flat on her back in her family’s new house, staring up at the whirring ceiling fan. She reaches up to pull her beret over her face, the early morning light was hurting her eyes. But when she raised her hand to her hair she found her beret wasn’t there. She bolts up, looking around the room. She was wearing it when she went to the Soiree, and she was wearing it when- Oh. She rests her head on her hands as she realizes she left it by Shoma and Atsushi..... She couldn’t just go back there, she was pretty sure Shoma hated her, and Atsushi was nice enough but his overbearing enthusiasm both relieved and intimidated her. Could she get Chris or Tommy to go with her again? Tommy probably wouldn’t care, Chris would probably tease her ruthlessly about it. She flops back onto the couch, covering her face with her hands. What was she going to do? Should she just.... leave it? Why was she so afraid to go back, it’s so silly, Shoma was just some rude boy, he didn’t mean anything. Kazuko gets up off the couch, determined. She would get her beret back.
Honeychain Volume 1, Chapter 6
A generally nondescript looking building stood between a looming skyscraper and a place that resembled a bodega. And this is where Kazuko, Chris, and Tommy find themselves having been led by Shoma.“Place seems a bit creepy” Chris remarks, raising his eyebrows at Shoma.“Does it, now?” Shoma says, undoing the chain and lock that held the two large iron doors together. As soon as the doors open they’re met by a loud clanging noise. “And that would be Hachirou, most likely setting something on fire or breaking something.” Shoma strides inside, it was clear this was somewhere he felt the most comfortable in. “Ohhhh hey!!!! Shoma!” Atsushi comes over, wiping his grease stained hands on a bandana already stained prior by pre existing grease stains. “You.” Shoma obliges Atsushi’s fist bump, but when he turns to Chris and Kazuko and Tommy, he wipes his hand on his sweater behind his back. Atsushi laughs “Excuse him, he’s just moody.” He looks at Kazuko “Oh you’re the girl from the Soiree, Kazuko right? Shoma couldn’t stop talking about you.” Shoma gives Atsushi a fierce look “I did no such thing!” Atsushi gives Kazuko a knowing look before walking away. Kazuko blushes but manages to keep a straight face. Chris looks from Shoma to Kazuko “Anyway- Shoma, you’re a vet right?” Shoma looks like he was startled out of thought “Right” He leads them to a back room, done up like a vet’s office, a small yellow bird flies down from the rafters. “Hello” Shoma puts out his arm, the bird comes to rest on it. Kazuko smiles “Aww they’re so cute!” the bird chirps and cranes its neck around as if striking a pose. Shoma smiles slightly “It seems he enjoys your company” Kazuko laughs. “Well I enjoy his” Later they all sat in Atsushi’s mechanic’s garage, joking around and talking about everything and nothing. Kazuko tugs on Chris’s jacket “Can we go back to mom and dad? I’m hungry...” Chris nods and gets up, but Atsushi puts his hand on Chris’s shoulder “Nahh its okay, I’ll make something for everyone. You guys want anything?” Chris shrugs, “Sure. Tommy?” Tommy looks up “Huh- Oh- Sure.” Atsushi nods at them then looks at Shoma “You hungry dude?” “I do not need to eat, unlike you” Shoma crosses his arms across his chest and sits back. “Your body converts food into energy, and you need energy to be able to live. You should eat something.” Kazuko sets her lips in a tight and final line. Shoma raises his eyebrows at her, then sighs “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt.” After they all ate, Kazuko, Chris, and Tommy head off to go back to the house. Rukia grins at them as they walk in “Y’all kids had fun?” Kazuko looks down, touching the tips of her pointer fingers together. “We met this guy that Kazuko bumped into at the Soiree, we had lunch with him and a friend of his at this place that was a mix of a vet’s office and a mechanic’s garage.” Tommy says, not bothering to look up. “Thank you Tommy.” Rukia nods, then looks at her daughter “So why do you look so.....nervous. Hm, munchkin?” “She likes him.” Tommy ads. Rukia’s eyes light up, “Awwwww” Kazuko flushes profusely “Tommy!! Mom!!” Chris chuckles and tousles her hair. Antoine walks over “What’s happening?” Rukia links her arm around his “Our little girl’s got a crushhhhhhhhh” He crosses his arms across his chest “On who?” None of the kids rushed to answer him. “I don’t have a crush-” Kazuko flushes again. Antoine looks stern “She’d better not, she’s way too young” “We were younger than her when we met, Antoine.” Rukia rolls her eyes. Antoine pouts, seeming to drop the topic “Anyway, we cleaned the house, and cooked dinner.” Everyone nods, not quite sure what else to say, they walk off to go do their own things. Kazuko flops down onto the couch, thinking about Shoma. She couldn’t have any feelings for a guy she just met, right? Especially one as self-righteous and rude as him....
