I wanted to do something with them for halloween, so here’s a short little fic/drabble..
It was only seven o'clock when the doorbell rang.
Looking up from her tray of sweetened treats, Mei knit her brows in confusion, glancing up at the wall clock on reflex. Yep - seven o'clock, a bit too early for trick or treats. But who knows; maybe some were starting early this year. Not to mention the sky was already darkening quicker than she had realized, with black clouds looming overhead.
Regardless, it was impolite to leave the guest waiting, so after brushing off her apron she swiftly headed over to the front door. Upon unlatching, she swung it open and was greeted by - nothing. Now she was even more confused. Blinking around, she stepped outside, turning this way and that to spot her mysterious ringer. Before she could open her mouth to ask ‘hello?’, a dark figure suddenly sprang up from her right, letting out a shout while baring pointed teeth and outstretched claw-like hands.
Mei screamed, flailing back inside.
“Gotcha!” Xiang cried. Dressed in a handsome black suit and matching cape, with greasy slicked-back hair and sharp teeth, it was obvious to see that he was supposed to be a vampire. Popping out the fake teeth, he began laughing loudly at her startled reaction. Mei felt her face grow pink as she pursed her lips tightly, hands clenched by her side. As he continued to cackle, she felt herself shaking as she tried to overcome the anger bursting inside her.
“D-don’t do that again!” She yelled angrily, pushing him away as he stepped forward. Turning around swiftly, she refused to face him, instead rubbing her arm and taking in a few shallow breaths.
Surprised at her sudden outburst, he stared numbly at her withdrawn frame before taking a few steps towards her. Reaching around, he embraced her from behind.
“Aw, Mei, there’s no need to be like, so upset..” he mumbled, nuzzling into her shoulder.
“I’m still not going to forgive you so easily,” she huffed, “you scared the heck out of me.”
“It was out of good fun..” he offered, eyes lidded.
“That doesn’t ma-ah!” Mei broke off with a sudden gasp, body rigid in shock. The sly Cantonese teen, seeing his chance, had licked lightly at the back of her neck, the motion sending shivers down her spine.
Pleased by her reaction, he smiled, continuing to tease the nape of her neck with his tongue while Mei let out delighted whimpers. His lips moved gently across her skin, tickling her lightly while slowly making a pathway from her neck down across to her shoulders.
“St-stop..” She moaned, shifting her head around. “The trick or treaters should be here any minute-”
“Who cares?” Xiang asked lazily, continuing to nip at her now-exposed shoulder.
“I do,” Mei replied, seeing the opportunity to peel him off of her as he perked up at the unexpected chime of the doorbell. Xiang sighed, rubbing impatiently at the back of his neck as he heard her sweet exclamation of ‘coming!’, accompanied by the door unlocking. As Mei eagerly passed out her homeade goods, waving goodbye to the young guests, she felt a familiar tap at her shoulder. Turning around, she met the mischevious smile of her partner.
“I’ll be in the bedroom, Mei..” he told her, gesturing down the hall.
“Okay,” she sighed, blushing guiltily at her own frustration. “But it may be a while, I don’t know.“
"Like, fine with me,” Xiang yawned, heading down the corridor. Tilting his head slightly, he called back at her: “Happy Halloween."
Mei chuckled, glacing at his retreating figure before setting down her plate. Happy Halloween indeed.
