alicent has found her time as queen to be a period of constant learning. both to be alone, and to be surrounded by people. sometimes both at the same time. she is isolated in ways she didn't know a person could be isolated. even now as she stands, alone, beneath the harrowing presence of the weirwood tree she can see people bustling about in the hallways on either side. near her but apart. this dissonance doesn't seem to vacate despite her privilege, or her status. there are many who wish to be near the queen, but very few who can still see alicent hightower underneath.

she catches sight of harwin as he walks along the corridor and it reminds her of a worry she's been stewing over for days now. too many to count. "ser harwin." her voice calls out, strong enough to be heard but still gentle. this isn't the command of a queen, merely a request. "do you have a moment so that we might have a word?"

     “i  would  much  rather  be  home,”  alysanne  is  careful  not  to  WHINE,  as  samwell  would  never  let  her  live  it  down  if  she  was  caught  bothering  harwin  strong  as  though  he  were  her  brother.  so  she  does  not  whine,  but  perhaps  she  comes  close,  lingering  at  the  very  edge  of  the  ballroom  and  glancing  out  the  windows,  “do  you  think  they  would  notice  if  i  went  down  to  the  stables?  the  horses  are  better  company  than  this  lot.”

     She  smiled ;  but  it  was  habitually  clipped,  her  words  quiet  and  carefully  chosen.  Too  much  so  for  a  girl  of  her  age.  Despite  that  there  was  some  genuine  amusement  behind  them.  Harwin  encapsulated  his  house  name  so  thoroughly  it  was  hard  for  her  to  see  him  sat  in  a  grand  hall,  a  wife  by  his  side  and  a  babe  on  his  knee.  He  should  have  been  a  second  son,  Alicent  thinks;  years  of  fame  in  the  lists,  notoriety  on  the  battlefield,  and  no  doubt  plenty  of  women  asking  to  give  their  favours...  and  more.  Her  eyes  were  dull  with  grief  and  restraint,  but  maybe  that  amusement  made  them  sparkle  for a  moment.

     “ You  had  best  enjoy  yourself  while  you  can  then,  Ser  Harwin,  before  your  father  finds  a  lady  at  court  for  you  to  take  home  to  Harrenhal.  I’m  sure  you’ll  have  plenty  more  turns  in  the  lists  before  that  happens. ”

watch as the older woman takes her daughter away to her bedroom   &   she simply wants to take in the silence it leaves behind .   helaena cried a lot .   always cries in her arms ,   always cries when she is close and while she loves her     .  .  .     she feels relief when she is taken away .   sink into a chair ,   air exhales slowly and rolling shoulders .   trying to ease some of the tension .   elbow on arm rest ,   slouching rather unladylike   &   she is pinching the bridge of nose   :   trying to manage a headache when there is a knock and someone enter her rooms .   eyes slowly open and the queen does not even try to pull herself together when attention lands on him .   doesn’t have the willpower and for once ,   the need to act the perfect wife and queen doesn’t quite compell her as usual .     ❝   ser ,   ❞

                                       in   alarm   she   freezes  ,      the   voice   was   too   familiar   but   unexpected  .      a   twist   of   the   feet   and   she’s   turning   to   his   direction  ——  his   face   reminding   her   of   utter   warmth   and   roses   (   thus   focusing   on   that   just   to   hope   to   ignore   his   comment   out   of   guilt   )   .      she   wholeheartedly   treasured   spending   the   moments   that   she   did   with   him  ,   he   was   the   most   enjoyable   person   she   had   the   pleasure   with  .      a   silent   solitude   where   her   thoughts   were   left   to   plague   her   endlessly   were   replaced   with   small   adventures   and   m e r r i m e n t  .      all   too   good   to   be   true   and   yet   it   hadn’t   been  .      ————  but  ——  she   was   observant   enough   to   spot   that   the   hours   he   could’ve   spent   f r e e l y   about   doing   whatever   he   wished  ,   he   was   rather   here   supervising   her.      it   had   become   selfish   to   only   think   of   her   own   wants   and   not   his  .        ❛         well . . . .  i   thought   by   now   you   would’ve   grown   tired   of   me  ?         ❜      the   very   thought   had   her   biting   the   inside   of   her   cheek   in   a   twinge   of   great   dejection   if   it   were   true  .      though   the   woman   couldn’t   blame   him   either   if   it   was   just   easier   to   fall   back   into   the   line   of   acquaintances  .        ❛         . . .   with   using   all   your   (   possible   )   spare   time   to   attend   to   me   and   all . .         ❜

                 panic   sets   in   the   distance  .      the   chaos   sieged   the   very   ground   they   stand   upon   and   it’s   spine   tingling  .      the   city   and   its   inhabitants   had   FINALLY   gone   mad  .     eyes   have   laid   upon   such   hysteria   like   this   before   (   memories   of   forever   echoed   screams   still   filling   up   her   nightmares   to   this   day   )   and   just   as   it   was   then   as   it   is   now  ,   she   had   become   chilled   to   the   bone  .         ❛         no  ,   no  ,   no  .         ❜         back   towards   him  ,   her   head   is   swiveling   at   such   a   speed   that   the   hood   of   the   burgundy   cape   falls   to   her   shoulders  .      dread   shaded   hues   finds   his   features   and   searches   his   own   eyes  ,   looking   for   an   answer   behind   a   statement   she   did   not   agree   with  .      the   alarm   didn’t   STEM   from   the   fear   of   her   own   life   or   its   outcome  ,   but   the   LOSS   of   his  .         ❛         we   can   easily   just   escape   together  ?         ❜         the   question   sets   in   her   shaken   tone  ,   she’s   actually   UNSURE   at   this   point   if   he   heard   what   she   said   over   the   feral   crowd  .      the   blonde   extends   a   hand   swiftly  ,   digits   clasping   at   his   arm  ,   now   showing   reluctance   in   wanting   to   let   go  .      if   she   did  ,   the   humorless   joke   would   root   itself   in   her   reality  .

                     cupped   hands   were   placed   into   his  ,     and   with   gentle   ease   she   slipped   one   of   the   TWO   coiled   up   millipedes   into   his   own  ——————  handing   the   larger   of   them   to   him   meant   she   had   enough   palm   space   to   carry   the   other  (  smaller  )  without   her   previous   difficulty  .         ❛         they’re   sick  .      the   keep   makes   them   sick  . . . . .   they   must   go   back   outside  .         ❜        the   affirmation   spoken   was   DIRECTED   towards   herself   rather  ,   it   was   giving   the   r e a s s u r a n c e   she   needed   to   bestow   them   the   freedom   they   once   had  .
