Today we’re taking a look at the G6 gaming headset by Honstek. If you’ve never heard of Honstek, then we’re in the same boat. I found this headset while browsing Amazon and figured they look like they’d be good for a review. So here we go, let’s jump right in.
The G6 gaming headset is a budget pair, coming in at $15-$20 on Amazon. Compared to other headsets I’ve reviewed, the G6 feels lower quality. The plastic they’ve used is a bit iffy and the overall style of the headset looks very low budget. That’s not to say that it can’t be a great headset, it just doesn’t look great.
As far as how they sound, well it’s actually not terrible for the low price of admission. I found that the bass was quite a bit higher than you’d like for a more balanced sound. It tended to drown out some of the low and mid sounds of footsteps and gunshots. Not ideal, but considering the price, definitely not a deal breaker. Nice of Honstek to add a volume control slider on the left headset for quick adjustments. As far as the microphone goes, quality wasn’t terrible. It’s not going to blow you away but it sounded clear and not tinny. It’s retractable, so if you need to get it out of the way you’re able to slide it back into the headset.
It’s a pretty bare bones headset as you’d expect. It plugs in with dual 3.5mm audio jacks for mic and headphone, but it comes with an adapter to convert it to a single 3.5mm for things that need it such as phones and consoles. There’s also a USB connection, but that only supplies power for the LED lights (single color, non-customizable) and the vibration function. Speaking of which, the vibration function is a fun, albeit gimmicky feature. Basically, when there’s big spikes in sound, the vibration ads some punch to it. Say a grenade goes off near you, you’ll feel the boom of the explosion. Kind of fun, but if it’s not your things you can adjust the amount of vibration, or turn it off with a control on the headset.
If you’re looking for a headset that does the job and won’t cost you a lot of money, the Honstek G6 ain’t a bad way to go. If you can save up a bit more cash and go with something a little higher quality, you’ll probably be a lot happier with your game audio.
