Talk about a pointless rabbit hole.
What the fuck is this?
It's from 2007, and is an album of Disney-pop-esque tracks by a who's who of low-tier teen actors of the day.
Is any of this good? Maybe, but I have to apply so many qualifiers to get to that that it isn't worth it.
I'd say go listen for yourself, but only some of these tracks seem available on some platforms, and always under the names of the individual artists. The album as a whole doesn't seem to be anywhere to stream.
(Edit: Yes it is. I don't know why it didn't come up before. It has now. This one, and the Christmas one from 2006. But I still don't have any more info.)
I don't even know for sure what this album was called. "The Hollywood Hooligans Rock"? "Hooliwood"? Both? I know it was a real CD because at least one can be bought online, and there was also a Christmas release of some kind.
It was apparently put out by "Skooter Records," I think, but there was a more-significant Italian punk / ska label that went by that name, so best of luck with that search. Also Hollywood Hooligan is / was a wrestler, so best of luck with any of this.
Obviously, someone tried to start a thing and it didn't work. But I can't find ANYTHING about this. It was just before the Internet was ubiquitous, so it's basically lost to the web.
Who did this? How did they get all these people to sign? Was this some weird imprint by a major label that they've long forgotten about?
I mean, this is the most 2007 thing ever - look at that picture - and it obviously didn't sell then, so good riddance, I suppose.
But I have trash brain and now I'm obsessed with this very pointless, stupid mystery.
There seems to be more entries for it on Korean music sites. Was this exclusively a foreign release? Like they dumped this on Korea and Japan and it never came out in the US? Or is it maybe somehow k-pop-label related? I literally do not know.
I so very much want to buy a physical copy of this and see what info I can get from the liner notes. But that is also not a good use of my time or money.
If you have any idea what this is, please explain.
I only found out about this because the chubby girl from that movie Drew Gooden reviewed that time, Sleep Over - Kallie Flynn Childress - has the opening track. And she's GOOD! But clearly this aspect of her career didn't go anywhere, at least as far as the Internet is concerned.
I was 25 when this happened, and have a penis, so I wasn't exactly paying attention to any of this. But I'm gay now and the whole trash brain thing, so this kind of ephemeral pop-cultural doodoofeces from the waning days of the pre-Internet Monoculture fascinates me.
What the hell was this? The answer is certainly mundane and not worth knowing. But it's also inaccessible, so I'm intrigued.
