File Under: Missing The Point
Evil and more evil make 'Deadwood' dreadful
Let's see why this guy doesn't like Deadwood, shall we?
Family people won't be watching. No caring parent is going to let their child stare at this sewage.
Er, there's your first major error. How on earth did you get the impression that this was or could ever be a "family show" to sit down and watch with your kids? Everyone involved with this show would no doubt be horrified if you did. It's on HBO, not Hallmark. And I like the implication that anything you couldn't watch with your kids is garbage.
And let's hear about "Hollywood's typical bigotry":
The Christian minister is portrayed as a wide-eyed idiot.
Oops! Someone was asleep during your sermons, Reverend.
The mother in the covered wagon speaks in an exaggerated and insulting Minnesota accent, surely intended to show again how stupid Hollywood producers think Midwest family people are.
Yes. That's exactly right. They weren't a family from Sweden with accents or anything, just dumb Minnesotans.
Even the beauty of the country gets little if any play.
So your problem is that the show spends too much time examining the realities of a dirty, depraved town and less time on tree porn?
It may no longer be fashionable, but no matter what Milch may believe or portray, right and wrong still exist in this world.
Damn that Milch and his nonexistent moral compass! How dare dare he create characters who are flawed but compassionate or situations that exist in a moral grey area. How dare he assert that all human beings are connected to one another and that actions against one have consequences on everyone in a community. Cocksucker.
