Eyes misdirection Your eyes tell everything- where you plan to go and who you plan to pass to. They give away to the defender what your next actions can be. I've had plenty of passes picked off because I've telegraphed my next move beforehand. The same goes for your dribbles and attacks. If you just stare at the spot you're going, the defense will do their best to close that path off. What can you do? Easy. Look away. Use a simple retreat dribble to create space, and look AWAY from where you plan to attack next. A quick, explosive move to step past your defender, toward the basket (or your spot) for an easy bucket. Hoop study Three moves that help you get to the basket. First, a crossover to redirect your defender, and a sealing drop step to create space. Expect to spin about 270 degrees(and practice doing it quick!) You'll find your defender behind you, and the basket in front! Second (I've shown this before)- create a but of space by "hopping" backwards whole dribbling the ball. If the defender approaches you to close the gap, push off and explode forward. While their momentum is moving toward you, you'll be able to move past them with this split second advantage. Third, do what James Harden does- dribble until the defender relaxes. Then, attack the front foot (or open space), especially if the defender is on his heels. Even the best defenders can get caught "relaxing", and split second reactions are usually not fast enough to recover! #hoopstudy #hooptherapy #getbucketseveryday #getbuckets #basketballaddiction #basketballcoach #basketballneverstops #KeapAthletics #KeapAthlete #basketballstrategy #basketballworkout (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BokY5ZJAb9I/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19jrl0anei4o2
@cliff_the_wiz got me on this turnaround. I was thinking, what did I do wrong? I stayed in front, moved my feet- and even recovered on the turnaround. But I didn't alter his shot as well as I could have. Then I realized- it's simply body mechanics. My dominant right hand is my go-to hand for defensive activity, but when a right handed shooter has a high set release point, your best bet is the closest hand! Also, if the offensive player is taller than you, aim to block their vision, not the ball! I remember one of Kobe's videos talking about how this is a common mistake, not using different hands on defense. Let's be honest- Cliff probably still would have hit it😝, but my left hand extension would be closer and might have had a better chance to alter his shot. The homie practices at game speed, and is always a pleasure to play against- I'm forced to grow and get better each time. Great move, bud. Let's study some hoops together - any other defensive tips? #hoopstudy @howbyhowie @yueonlyliveonce @trillfoodie @ma76bball @stangnhoops @ia_shayp3 @pmillegan @keapathletics @upby1bball @thegreatestlau @ma1ham (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoR-pQTl4Fp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=nx7kuyco5mhi
