Credit to from @hopeanimalfoundation (@get_regrann) - Onychectomy, popularly known as declawing, is an operation to surgically remove an animal's claws by means of the amputation of all or part of the distal phalanges, or end bones, of the animal's toes. We at H.O.P.E. do not support declawing. Although declawed cats cannot scratch or destroy furniture there can be many other complications that can arise from surgery. There are possible medical complications post-surgery including infection and pain. Behavior changes have also been reported. There is an increased chance of aggression including biting, and house soiling (not using a litter box) or marking. In recent years there have been increases in temporary products such as Soft Paws (a soft plastic cap that is glued over the claw) which are a humane alternative to declawing.
