frodo stares at the jagged mountainside, expression void of emotion but for a single tear that slides down his dirt covered cheek. the fresh memory replays over in his mind, a final look shared between longtime friends before the wizard let go and fell into flame. frodo’s heart is heavy with grief, and the guilt is overwhelming. gandalf the grey had sacrificed his life to ensure the fellowship could go on, and the ringbearer does not know how to handle that information. the voice of aragorn cuts through the haunting replay, and slowly his gaze lifts from rock to man. they have barely started on their journey, so far yet is their destination. they must keep moving, frodo knows it in his heart. but still he does not understand why. why did gandalf have to fall so that they may live?
❝ is this what awaits us? ❞ vulnerable is his question, fear for what the future now holds. ❝ will i lose everyone else? will this mission claim the lives of us all? ❞ the hobbit swallows hard, wishing for the courage of his uncle to continue on this perilous journey. ❝ am i leading us all to death? ❞
