You know, an argument I keep hearing is “The Brother gods are bastards for giving Ozma an impossible task; world peace can’t be achieved and redeeming the world is impossible!”
And I just tilt my head because... have you not been watching the same show as I am? Have you not been paying attention at all?
The entire theme of series, or at least one of its core themes, is “Maintaining hope, and trying to do good even though everyone says it’s impossible; get back up, no matter how many times you’re knocked down.”
We see this at the end of Volume 3, when Ruby wants to keep fighting the good fight, even when all her teammates have abandoned her and given into despair.
We see it in Volume 6 when Ruby refuses to give up on the quest to stop Salem, even when the others are giving in to despair and fear, especially her uncle.
We see it in the last two Volumes, when everyone on both sides is telling Team RWBY and their allies that Atlas and Mantle can’t possibly both be saved, and they need to choose one city over the other, but they decide they will save everyone.
How can anyone watch this series and then say that “Peace and cooperation can never be achieved” is the thing we’re supposed to takeaway from Ozma’s story?
That’s Salem’s belief; that’s why she’s doing what she’s doing, this idea that these people and this world are fundamentally broken and can’t be saved or fixed or helped.
If anything, I think that when the Relics are gathered, and and when the Brothers return... and they return to find a united Remnant, standing against Salem even when all hope is so clearly lost?
That might just be enough to pass their judgement after all.
The Despair of 2016 and the Hope of Danganronpa
Danganronpa came into my life when I needed it most.
That’s an unbelievably cheesy and dramatic thing to say about video games and fandoms, but that doesn’t make it less true.
See, 2016 was a year of total despair for many, and certainly me personally. I see now so much powerful hatred, cruelty, and terror in the world around me. 2016 taught me that my college major and all its values mean NOTHING to the majority of people who care not for facts or evidence. 2016 taught me to fear and doubt everyone I see and meet. 2016 taught me that your neighbor probably doesn’t give a shit if you’re dead or alive. 2016 taught me that there’s a massive plurality of people who think the correct response to meeting/seeing someone different than you is to enact VIOLENCE on them.
That’s 2016’s legacy: Pure hate, fear and despair. It’s gonna be around a damn long time.
But in the midst of all this shit, as I tried to escape reality via yet another video game, I happened to play a game about complex characters of varying interests/backgrounds who are stuck in inhuman, cruel, horrific conditions… yet somehow find that hope overcomes all that despair if you just keep moving forward through it all.
It spoke to my heart on a level that no piece of fiction has for me since around…. oh, seven years ago or so? I fell HARD for these characters, their complex world, and of course, I wanted to believe in the worldview it promoted.
And soon I was off to the races - tearing through the games, the anime, the manga, the light novels and even following recommendations from fellow fans (Danganronpa led me to The Future Diary, which I love ALMOST as much now).
Then I did something I haven’t done in, yup, SEVEN YEARS - I started writing stuff not just for my job as a writer, but for personal pleasure. I started writing fiction again. Which led me back to Tumblr for the first time in a few years. It led me to the massive Danganronpa community here, where I’m still a total newbie. But I see a wide variety of ages, sexual preferences, genders and more coming together in such an incredibly supportive community here and it DOES give me hope. It DOES make me see the good in people again.
So yeah. 2016 made me geek out for some fictional universe like I haven’t in ages, and it made me see some hope online even while the immediate surroundings outside of my home show me very little of that. So I’m grateful to all you fellow Dangan-geeks who probably don’t even know me, because you do INSPIRE me regardless.
Cheers. Here’s hoping that some miracle makes 2017 feel like an improvement. Odds are low, but we’ve all got each other.
TL;DR Thanks to Danganronpa and its fandom for giving me some hope in a soul-crushing year!

Guys I need your opinion
i can't enter the chatrooms while on school wi-fi, since they sadly blocked it. So answer this as soon as you can.
I'm going to take part in my org's 'Toujin Doujin', where we'll have to make a short chapter of something (since it's going to be a collaboration with every other member showcasing their art), and I decided to make a short prologue chapter about a DR Roleplay.
This is where I need you guys' opinions.
I don't know which one to do. Do I do despairmart? museumdespair? or hopevsdespair?
I'd have to tweak with the dialogues of everyone though, since I can't fit everyone's dialogues together.
So what do you guys think?

I just realized. Harry used (tried to) Sectumsempra, the Cutting Curse. Monobear cut him with a blade. Good show, good show.
Thank you for your interest in our Academy. Know that, if you do get accepted, that you cannot be the Boy-Who-Lived but the Boy-Who-Despaired and magic is not allowed at all. Breaking this rule will result in your immediate execution should you be one of our players.
Read you loud and clear! I'll be using my Delusional Harry verse and have him be the Super High School Caretaker in my application.
Also, you're still a naked stuff toy. Have some dignity. Puh-lease.
hopevsdespair replied to your post: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?
Oi! You better not make things go boom on purpose!
"Well... I don't know about that..."
