hey! i had a shitty day at work so i’m gonna read your hopper stuff to chill out. do you have any headcanons for him? i love reading random things you think about him

hey anon! im sorry youve had a bad day! and im flattered you’ve chosen my fic to read to chill out with!!

hmm lets see

hop listens to the eagles. even tho the show takes place in the 80s i just feel like he listens to mostly 70s lite rock. 

he’s a romantic. it’s known that he has one night stands from time to time, and he’s bad at giving that next day phone call - but i think he is looking (maybe not actively - because he doesn’t want to get hurt again) but he’s looking for intimate things besides just sex/getting off 

hop is big on memory. he wore sarah’s hairband around his wrist always. he has pictures she’s drawn in his house. and then later in the cabin he has boxes of stuff - it’s packed up and away - but it’s not been thrown out. so he still has those memories locked away somewhere. 

i bet he was an excellent soldier in vietnam. he has that edge to him, and is hyper observant. maybe being in the army helped him hone in on those skills. 

all of the things he’s done, army, then being a detective in nyc, then police chief at hawkins - all roles are meant to help people. he’s a protector it’s in his blood. 

gentle giant is one of my favorite tropes to assign to him. yes he has a temper and can be a brawler at times - but he has a gentle spirit about him. he’s very caring for his men, those kids, and joyce too. 

with all he’s been through and seen he’s come out on top of it all rather well considering. who knows what he saw in the war, and losing your child?? that’s unspeakable pain. then to lose his wife in a divorce - and she moved on. 

like i mentioned earlier i don’t know if he’s LOOKING for love, but i think he could use some of it. and el was a great thing to happen to him. patch some of the wounds he’s got with him. 

he’s like the definition of the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. like make this man some food and he’s all heart eyes. he doesn’t cook much and i bet he loves a home cooked meal. or like homemade cookies. 

he has a size kink. :) 

it is known that he likes the nickname chief being used in bed ok 

he’s a simple man tbh like he doesn’t need flashy new things, he’s happy in his cozy cabin or that little house from s1. he’s comfortable in his little routine. 

he is a night person. omg like straight up. i imagine when he’s not so busy he’d like to read at night. probably has a stack of books to read but when he gets home he just goes to bed lol 

he’s respected and he’s earned that respect. he’s watchful over that town. 

i wonder if he knows who all has crushes on him or not.

I'm a little scared that they revealed him to be alive already. What if they end up killing him off in the end?? You think they will?

im not that worried? i mean some crap is gonna hit the fan. but i think it’s a smart move in revealing he’s alive. it’s keeping audiences interested, it still leaves a huge air of mystery, i mean what’s going on?? the two theories were that he’s in the upside down or he’s in russia, we’ve only been answered that question. the question on everyone’s mind. but since that has been answered, that opens it up for MORE questions. it’ll keep audiences guessing, AND they don’t have to hide the massive secret anymore if hop is alive or not.

hmm im not really sure what this means so im just gonna take a stab. 

hopper doesn’t really care much about his appearance, as in he’s not vain. he’s got too much else on his mind to dwell on how he looks. sure he used to be a bit more trim when he was in the army and as a young adult. maybe when he was in the dating scene he cared, but he’s not been in that for some time. 

however, he does look nice, like he trims his beard. even buys that hawaiian shirt which is something fashionable at the time! so he’s aware. 

to me he seems pretty comfortable in his skin. 

as for appearance of someone he’s attracted to? i bet he cared when he was young, but as he’s aged, he’s going to care less about appearance and more about heart ya know?

pretty much the summary of his character as a whole is he’s trying his best, and romance goes into that category. he’s sweet and flirty. but most important - he’s attentive. we don’t see much of his romantic side, because he’s busy being a cop. we see remnants of one night stands, but i still get the feeling he does a bit of wooing and flirting before just jumping into bed w/ someone. 

his actions are intentional, so we know they would be w/ a significant other :”)

he’s not perfect - but again - he tries his best. he’s gonna miss the mark on occasion, but it won’t be from lack of effort. 

like hop’s gonna find out your favorite flowers/candy/restaurant/movie all these things. he’s gonna be aware.
