The Hopper Elasticsearch hackathon is off to a great start this morning at hack/reduce!
Can't wait to see what teams will build.
Our Chief Data Scientist, Patrick Surry, will be speaking on Hopper's interactive flight pricing at the Big Data Innovation Summit.
The Summit takes place on September 12 & 13 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, and registration is currently open.
Scala School Part Two
About twenty hardy hackers returned to hack/reduce on Monday for session two of Scala School. Coached by three of Hopper’s developers, the attendees refreshed their memories on the previous week’s teachings and dug into some practice problems.
After only two hours of training, the Scala students were successfully writing pieces of code! To see some of what you missed, check out the presentation slides here.

Upcoming Storm and Finagle Hackathon: Register Now!
Hopper and hack/reduce are hosting a free, all-day Storm and Finagle hackathon on July 20 (more details and RSVP here). After tutorials and close mentoring from teams from Hopper and Visible Measures and access to a huge cluster and data streams and sets, you’ll emerge with working code!
Voting at an end-of-day demo session will determine the best team, which will win a one-year subscription to SoftLayer worth $12,000. It’s a perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty with computing power and real data.
