I am manifesting the brain rot one shitty meme edit and half decent piece of fan art at a time

So, I'm on record as being clear that I have no intention of writing about how/if Chell and Hornet have sex, but apparently I cannot stop the characters from making innuendos and telling statements. Chell, as it turns out, when feeling comfortable and safe enough to communicate freely is quite the menace. Not specifically with making innuendos, just in general. And this little tidbit of scene popped into my head.
While talking with Garamond and Zaza, either during the first encounter with him, or one or two encounters later, Hornet realizes that she's never really explained her relationship with Chell to him, and it comes up in the conversation, and she compares her relationship with Chell to Garamond's with Zaza, what with how close they are and how they fight together. Hornet then realizes what she's said/implied, and then tries to explain how they're different actually, and tries to dig herself out of the hole.
Hornet, mid digging: Not to say that our relationship is better or closer, just different, for example, we tend to fight side-by-side, or, depending on the situation, back-to-back, instead of one of us riding on the other.
Chell signs, with absolute confidence that only Hornet will understand her: To be fair, we do sometimes ride each other, though not usually while fighting. ...Depending on how you define "fighting".
Hornet, suddenly very glad that her pale mask isn't generally inclined to blush: Chell! By wyrm, you can't keep saying stuff like that. Some day we are going to encounter someone who knows your sign language.
Chell: If we ever actually get to see other humans, or at least bugs who know what humans are, maybe. But until then...
Garamond: Well, I don't know this sign language you're using, but I'm pretty sure I understand what Hornet was trying to say, and the way in which your bond differs from the one I share with Zaza.
Hornet: *Wants to die*
Chell: *doubles over in silent laughter.*
Chell and Hornet react to Shakra's names/nicknames for them. *note italicized dialog is signed and underlined dialog is written (on a slate).
Edit: Apparently I forgot to underline Chell's written lines, they are now underlined.
Edit 2: Apparently tumblr is allergic to underlines, please assume all Chell dialog that isn't italicized should be underlined.
Shakra: In these lands names are given freely, are they not? I am Shakra, Wielding Rings. If our hunts intertwine again, I will have new maps to trade. Until then, farewell, Child Wielding Needle, and Mystery Wielding Spear.
*Hornet and Chell turn away to leave*
Hornet: Child Wielding Needle? Mystery Wielding Spear? What silly names. And I told her I wasn't a child.
Chell: Maybe if we told her our names, she would use those instead. And I actually quite like Mystery Wielding Spear. I think I'll go by that by now on.
Hornet: Are you serious?
Mystery Wielding Spear: Quite serious. And I think you're just jealous that the cool warrior lady called you a child, and called me something cool.
Hornet: You're impossible!
Shakra, who is still only like a few feet away: What's impossible?
Hornet: Oh, nothing, my acquaintance here is just being an idiot.
Mystery Wielding Spear: ACQUAINTANCE!?!?
Hornet: As long as you insist by going by that silly name, you're being downgraded.
Chell, sighs and takes out her slate and turns to Shakra: My name is Chell, and my fun hating partner here is named Hornet, and we are both adult women
Shakra: It is a pleasure to properly make both of your acquaintances Chell Wielding Spear and Hornet Wielding Nail. And I meant no offense when I called her child.
Hornet: Fun hating?! Did you actually mean, responsible and reasonable?
Chell: Like I said, fun hating
Shakra: I hope I did not cause this argument between the two of you, or cause offense.
Hornet: No, no, you did nothing wrong, and unfortunately, you are not the first to mistake me for an adolescent. Although, based on the way Chell acts sometimes, you'd think people would mistake her for one more often.
Chell: *sticks her tongue out at Hornet, but because many bugs don't have tongues, the meaning of this gesture is lost on the others*
Writing Hornet seeing/meeting Chell for the first time is fun because she has no fucking clue what humans are, let alone how their sexual dimorphism works. So she's using they/them and wondering if her hair is a hat and doesn't know what shoes are. The only reason she knows what spear is is because I decided she would know what shirts and pants are from previous adventures (for the sake of my own sanity of not having to describe Chell's clothing in terms of cloaks), and I couldn't justify her knowing what those are without Hornet also knowing what spears are.
But her spear was originally going to be described as a cross between the flying sentries' lances and Hornet's needle, but used more like a nail (strictly melee)
When I had decided in my Hollow Portals AU, to give Chell a background in engineering/being a mechanic, that was most just to justify her being able to build her grappling gun thing. And as I had not yet played Silksong, I was not really aware of the fact that Hornet also really likes tinkering and building things.
But now I get to have them bond over their shared love of inventing and building stuff!
