Gah seeing ads for 50 Shades Darker is annoying the piss out of me. I don’t want to see ads for a book and movie that misrepresents the bdsm community. We don’t appreciate this thanks…
Can I remove the ad from my tumblr please?
I am so pissed off right now at Inti Creates and Azure Striker Gunvolt! You put a token transgender sexual predator character into your game. Had I know this beforehand, I never ever ever would of purchased the video game in the first place. Heck, I'll probably never touch the game again: it'll remain unbeaten.
Zonda is a villain that embodies the Deadly Sin of Lust (that's a motif in the game). However, Zonda's transformed form features a large pink phallus jutting up from where Zonda's crotch is located. All of other villains in the game are defined by animal-like traits and a distinctive color palette ala Mega Man Robot Masters, but not Zonda! Basically, Zonda sports what many consider the classic symbol of male sexuality in which most would call a color representing femininity (a.k.a pink). This depiction serves to reinforce that a damaging stereotype: those that are transgender are defined solely on their choice of genitalia.
If that wasn't enough, just look at the dialogue the character speaks.
"Mmm, look at you. You're all boy, aren't you?"
This line objectifies the main character (and possible hints at a pedophile angle with the usage of the word "boy").
"A plug for every socket, and a socket for every plug. "I should warn you - I'm carnal. I'm a carnivore."
Biological sexual fixation followed by statements which suggest physical and sexual aggression.
"Right now, you're a dangly little piece of meat. Taking you for a tug is going to be fun."
Zonda finishes by threatening to rape Gunvolt, pretty much.
Somehow the ESRB thought this dialogue was appropriate in a game meant for ages 10 and up. It clearly isn't. Also, the constant association of transgenderism with sexual assault feeds into an underlying societal perception that those that are trans are a threat and tolerance is equal to the sacrifice of male liberty.
What makes matter worse is that when the character of Zonda is slain. Not by Gunvolt, but by another character. As if Zonda is unworthy of facing our hero, that his life is worthless. Zonda's killer uses the word "abomination" to describe Zonda. And Gunvolt arrives just in time to hear Zonda's salacious death throes, "So hot... inside me... aaah!" "This pain... exquisite... nngh!!!" "Kill me... just like that... aaahhh..." To clarify even further, in case it wasn't obvious already, Inti Creates made sure to add the line spoken by Gunvolt, "That's no cry for help!"
On top of that, the game's terminology used to reference the character consist of "bigender" and the pronouns "xe" and "xem". In a nutshell, it means the game made an attempt at being politically correct, yet their portrayal of the transgender character Zonda is abysmal. It doesn't matter about intent. Azure Striker Gunvolt, made by Inti Creates propagates negative stereotypes to those that play its game, whether through choosing to do so. Or due to utter ignorance.
