Hope you don't mind me spamming you a bit. I appreciate your reviews and commentary! Other movies that came to mind which I enjoyed were Ready Or Not, The Invitation, Don't Breathe, Black Christmas, Last Night inSoho (technically this is a horror movie). And because it's popular, what are your thoughts on A Quiet Place?
I don't mind one bit. These are fun questions, especially this one. Buckle up lmaoooo.
Ready or Not - I liked it, and it inspired the wedding dress in one of my darker stories.
The Invitation - Hell yes, love a dark dinner party movie. Won't spoil why.
Don't Breathe - Loved. So depraved. If you haven't seen it I won't spoil, but holy shit lol. Kink alert.
Black Christmas - Yes! Prefer the original by a mile, but enjoyed the Blumhouse take too.
Last Night in Soho - Need to see this, it's on my list.
A Quiet Place -Just my passionate opinion: I fear there is no movie I despise more. My disdain is well-known among irl friends. I'm about to go off.
Krasinski referring to his film as "elevated horror" put him on my bad side from the start. Really low to put down others to promote himself. Dismissing an entire diverse genre, disrespecting everyone who paved the way.
Krasinski gets (takes) far too much credit for things that have been done and done better, including the climax which mirrors The Descent Part 2, shot-for-shot. Don't Breathe is another example of the have-to-be-quiet premise.
Huge hit among non-horror fans who didn't know better and raved about its originality. Meanwhile gushing, "I'm not even into horror." Soo maybe they hadn't seen much? Especially lesser known movies. The horror tent is big enough for all, but he brought new fans into it while infusing them with his condescending attitude.
Far too many gratuitous close-ups of himself going 🤫. This man's ego, stg.
Some of us detected a strong whiff of right-wing energy. Pro-life in a risk everyone's lives for a fetus way. Pro-gun in a rural, white, get off my land way (btw I'm obsessed with John Wick. it's not the use of guns in this, it's the energy).
He bragged about how his wife was so unaffected by her most intense scene (childbirth) that after it she said, "Who's ready for lunch?" Why is that so good, John? Is your view as a director that actors should snap in and out of character and not be affected by their roles? If she needed to cry or rest, would he think less of her? Personally I admire people who feel. Also, harder to imagine paying a man the same compliment.
I have one nice thing to say, which is that it's nice to see deaf/hard-of-hearing representation, and it was the least they could do good to cast an actress from the community as his daughter.👍
If they committed to total silence instead of using a dramatic score, that would've been cool.
You can do your own take on an old concept and make it good. But to meanwhile put down everything else to distinguish/promote himself?? That ain't it.
Anyway, I still hate-watched the sequel (not nearly as bad) and may do the same with the prequel 🤪.
Hi!😊 What are your favourite horror books, shows and or movies? I'm not very familiar with the genre, but when I was a teenager I was hooked on The Fear Street series (R. L. Stine) and Stephen King books (my faves are Salem's Lot and Pet Cemetery). Recently I read the book with the long title about vampires by Grady Hendrix and I also loved it. As for TV shows I love Mike Flanagan's stories 💚
Fun question! I'm gonna answer it without too much thought, knowing I'm leaving off some faves. Otherwise I'd take forever and make it less fun 🥲. In no particular order. . .italic = added later.
Books - I know that Grady Hendrix one 😅 - "The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires," I liked it too. And Pet Sematary as well. As a kid, I really enjoyed Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and imo the books hold up lol. I was also into Goosebumps. I like The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and the miniseries. Horror-adjacent: The Snowman by Jo Nesbø; Sharp Objects by Gyllian Flynn (loved the miniseries, too). When I travel, I pick up a local ghost/hauntings book. Love folklore and urban legends.
Shows: Black Mirror, Dark, Hannibal, Yellowjackets s 1-2, Archive 81 (Matt McGorry is daddy). American Horror Story s1 Murder House. Dark Shows - Bordertown (Finnish). Maniac (sci-fi, the aesthetic scratches my brain soooo good).
Dark Non-fiction: series: Chernobyl, Dopesick, Dahmer, Murder Mountain. Unsolved Mysteries. Movies: The good nurse
Movies, skipping most of the classics: Coherence. The Bad Batch. The Guest. Barbarian. The Night House. Hell House LLC. The Lodge. The Endless. We Are Still Here. It Comes at Night. The Witch. Lake Mungo. mother!. Donnie Darko. Haunting in Connecticuit. The killing of a sacred deer. 10 Cloverfield Lane. The Menu. Candyman (both). [My idea of] Fun: M3gan, Us, Malignant, Terrifier 2, Bodies bodies bodies, It Follows, Thanksgiving, Green Inferno, Happy Death Day. And of course any I've written for.
Honorable mentions for physical effect: When Evil Lurks (Argentinian) made me physically gag out loud in the theater. I thirst-watched The Cursed and it gave me a nightmare (boyd wasn't in it ☹️). Tales from the Loop (sci fi series) made me sob.
I welcome no-pressure recommendations! More likely to try shows/movies.
Thanks for the ask, but that one feels nice and wrapped-up to me. I left it with a pregnancy and I'm not interested in writing stuff with babies or kids. But that doesn't mean I'll never write for House of Wax again. Bo Sinclair is prime slasher meat.
Can u please make all the slashers force pregnancy like Bo Sinclair, Michael Myers, Stu and Billy, Freddy Krueger, and Ben Willis from the movie 'I know what you did last summer' please
Howdy, non 👋 The good news is, I just did this with Bo Sinclair. I'm unlikely to do the others, but hope you like Bo. Ty for asking 💚
The Wax Job (Bo). No hair waxing lol
✨✨✨ EDIT: These might not be quite as dead on, but I forgot I had this Breeder Michael blurb, and If you haven't read Virginal (MM) 🤌 by @consultingskeletondetective, you should.
It's been a second since I said hello in your inbox but l was doing a bunch of these guess the show/movie/video game theme song games on YouTube with my partner and it was super fun! He knew all of the video game themes and I knew all of the TV shows
But there was a horror movie one and it made me think of you and got me wondering what your favorite horror movie theme/score/soundtrack is? Are there any that you dislike? I love the conjuring movies but I think that theme sucks bc it’s too sappy lol
I can't decide which is my favorite. Exorcist, Psycho, Halloween, or Silent Hill. Jaws too, if that counts 🦈
Bug, my friend!!! I am so happy to hear from you. Great question, and I like your answers (jaws counts). I have a few soundtrack moments that come to mind. . .
in The Night House: Calvary Cross by Richard and Linda Thompson - most impactful horror soundtrack moment I recall for me.
in Halloween Ends: Midnight Monsters Hop by Jack & Jim - perfect festive bop; Come 2 me by Johnny Goth - super sexy. I love the original Halloween score and the updated main theme.
Apparently I liked the score in Hansel & Gretel (2020) enough to mention it in a micro review.
Biggest disappointment - In the Happy Death Day trailer, every time the phone went off it was 50 Cent's In da Club, one of God's most perfect songs. But in the movie, it was nowhere to be heard 💔. Good movie though.
Dishonorable mention - A Quiet Place. If your schtick is going to be dead silence, go big or go home. Don't ruin it with a melodramatic score. (edit: my qualms against krasinski)
I'll think on soundtracks/scores as a whole. I got letterboxd recently (user latoxica). Also, that tag game was going around of songs you'd put in a horror movie, and I have not forgotten, those who tagged me.
Thank you for asking! And stop by anytime. I don't even worry about spamming my answers anymore lol.
despite being unaware of the lore of the characters, your slasher fics have awakened something in me. you're so freaking good. i wish they cater things like that in 🌽 to keep me and other dark fic lovers satiated. hahaha. keep on doing what you're doing. ilysm! ❤️
Ty for giving my slashers a shot, and I'm so glad to hear they're enjoyable without knowing the canon background. You are too kind, ily ❤️🤟
I could not agree more - professionally produced horror pr0n would be would be so popular, I just know it! My most popular fics overall are ghostface dark fics and it's not even close. I wish they would take a major horror franchise and do what they did to Pirates of the Caribbean with "Pirates." That was like a blockbuster hit.
Friends, it's a great time to dip a toe in my main masterlist while i'm on break from (intentionally) writing. Maybe you'll discover something. Here, I'll be your sommelier:
If you want a big tough killer to have his way with you but in a non-mean way and he takes care of you, The Spread (Thomas Hewitt, 6'5" and hefty)
If you want to be spared and fucked by a slasher Skin Alley (Michael Myers, also huge)
If you want to noncon a bad guy, Every inch (Ghostface)
On the subject of horror movies I watched talk to me last night and it was CRAZY!!! If you’ve seen it I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. That shit had me scared af when I was trying to fall asleep
I enjoyed it! It didn't hit me that hard, but then again I watched it on a plane 💀. Love the premise. I love when kids fuck around conjuring the dead and find out lmaoooo. Ouija, Candyman, etc.
