I still have the last 4 Horror War DLC arky family going up today, plus some other things I planned for this October that probably won’t be done till November at the earliest, not to mention the remaining three finalists of the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D, so stay tuned!  Horror Flora’s got more celebrating to do yet, even if Halloween is ending as we speak!

People sometimes ask why I named my blog Horror Flora because they don’t see me flout my love of plant monsters as often as, say, my love of reptiles.  The truth is that there just aren’t nearly as many plant monsters in fiction as I’d like to be, and most of the ones that do exist are fairly obscure.

This year’s Halloween was unusually kind to this poor neglected archetype, though, so to celebrate here’s a nearly complete shot of all of my plant monsters (minus Biollante, who is so entrenched in my Monster Island display that to get her out would require me to undo the whole thing), as well as two of my mom’s Monster High dolls for good measure (fun fact: when my mom got into the line, she asked me to get her a doll for Christmas to see whether she’d like it.  The doll I chose?  Venus McFlytrap.).  I made about a third of these myself, so you see where I’m coming from on the whole “plant monsters don’t get enough love from pop culture” thing, right?

I plan to post a few updates to Horror Flora in the following weeks, some of which have been in the works for a LONG time, but before all that I’d like to announce a new opportunity for fans …

I’m finally doing what I’ve wanted to do ever since I started Horror Flora - I’M OFFICIALLY OPENING UP THE BLOG FOR FAN-WRITTEN ICHF ENTRIES!  You can send your ICHF to [email protected] from now to October 3rd, and, if they’re approved, they will be published on the site as part of its anniversary celebration this year!  Entrants will be credited for their work, complete with a link back to their blog/website/what have you.  For more details, follow the link!

ICHF: The Alien Queen

Our final revised ICHF is the Alien Queen!  With this, Horror Flora’s First Year Anniversary Halloween Blitz comes to a close.  The site will now take a short break before returning to its normal two updates a week schedule on November 13th.  I hope you enjoyed the Blitz, and if you’d like to see Horror Flora update this often, please consider donating to the site’s Patreon Page.

Sorry this was posted so late!  I was in play practice from 11am today until, uh, now, which is to say 9:30pm.  I was not expecting it to go that long - if I had, I would have scheduled this to post earlier.

But!  Horror Flora’s hiatus is over!  Huzzah!  October 3rd is the site’s one year anniversary, so in celebration Horror Flora will update daily for the month of October, with double updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!!!  More specifically, Horror Flora will post one revised old ICHF article every day of the month, while completely new content will be posted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - articles you have never read before, with new art and shit!  Huzzah!

Why is Jason’s article the first revised ICHF posted?  Well, you’ll see tomorrow!
