2, 4, 6, 8, 45 aka just talk about your good good son .
2. their mother ? how do they think of her ? what do they hate ? love ? what influence - literal or imagined - did the mother have ?
as a child jacob liked to imagine what his mother was like based on the stories his grandmother would tell ; he’d look more like her, had her hazel green eyes and her dark auburn hair, a playful, yet soft smile . evie didn’t blame their father for having been gone for years, for having never been there, but jacob did and he didnt want to look anything like ethan because of that, so instead he was like his mother . in my headcanon jacob is more like their mother than ethan, more playful and charming, the heart, the passionate one, an untamed fire, and ethan definitely saw that in him as he watched them grow up . jacob loved his mother, the memories of her he crafted of her, her kindness and love, and where he knew from a young age that he was a failure to his father he lived his life wanting to make his mother proud, wanting to be like her, to live and love as freely as she had . its what makes the scoldings less painful and what gives him energy every day .
4. what type of discipline was your character subjected to at home ? strict ? lenient ?
ethan was very strict and demanded a lot out of his kids and jacob did not respond well to that . as i’ve said many times already, jacob acted out as a way to try and get any kind of attention from ethan because it was better than being ignored in favour of his sister .
6. did they feel rejection or affection as a child ?
it’s a bit of both, to be honest, because while he felt rather rejected by ethan he did know his sister, and george, had affection for him in some way and that was what made the loss of his father’s affection less painful in his eyes .
8. how does your character feel about religion ?
i havent given much thought to jacob and religion to be honest and now that i am, im curious about what his relationship could be, like if his mother’s side had been jewish or catholic or protestant and how that might have also had a hand in his childhood and shaped his views now . we’ll have to chat about that !!
45. is your character pragmatic ? think first ? responsible ? all action ? a visionary ? passionate ? quixotic ?
jacob is very impetuous and very action oriented which lends its hand into why he tends not to think very long term and instead focuses on the present above all else. alongside that, he is very romantic in his ideals and beliefs, believing that freedom alone will make people’s lives better and that all that matters is having fun and living life to the fullest, which has gotten him into trouble . in a way, this does make him something of a visionary, but also he isn’t pragmatic or thoughtful enough to really think about what is the right action to do in the short term and what action is right for the long term .
