The Cats Rescue Me
I run a cat rescue/sanctuary that I started about 8 years ago. I became a vet tech/assistant at the early age of 16 and did so for about 8 years. Working at a vets helped me become familiar with animal disease and illness and treatments necessary. In my rescuing I came to find that the cats saved me more than I felt I saved them. In some instances I gave them actual life as mother nature would have done them in naturally and a whole lot sooner. Some were just displaced from a real home, without love and the security of food on a regular basis. Lots of days I’ve felt hopeless living in grief of the “what ifs” and the “could’ve beens” on the ones that I lost to sickness then death(humane euthanasia). I have always had those days though, that I knew they rescued me. Rescuing became my natural high. I can’t even describe the feeling I get when I take a sick, dying, or hopeless cat, out of a situation that I know they would have never survived and seeing them flourish, playing, and happy. There is such a connection and a bond made with the kittens/cats and it is the most rewarding fulfilling feeling. Some days I’ve felt alone, depressed, or sad and then I would rescue a cat and they became the only thought in my mind. They made me whole again. I know it may not be healthy, but they have always mattered more to me then I mattered to myself. I have no human children so they were my cat children and they are my number ones’.
Rescuing used to be easier before I accidentally landed myself into hospice rescue. Hospice is one of the saddest things to be involved with. You know you are falling in love with this cat child in front of you, and that they will be leaving you soon. I enjoy the time that I can, and although my days of rescue are coming to a slow end, I would be grateful to inspire people into pursuing the same...to let people know how good it really feels to save a life...to give purpose to your life by helping another. Helping one that could never possibly repay you with anything but love. It is truly a blessing. I have so many stories to tell. For all of you who I may possibly inspire... Rescue On
