Back in the classic days of Barbie, Mattel released supplementary accessory and fashion packs with incredible regularity. This was by design: the original idea, from a marketing perspective, was that each family would only buy a small handful of relatively cheap Barbie and friend of Barbie dolls, but they would buy any number of fashions and accessories to go with them.
These days, the landscape looks different - with the exception of some big ticket items like the Dreamhouse and various vehicles, the vast majority of the releases are dolls in different outfits, who may or may not come with additional items and accessories.
Some of the old fashion packs were little more than the actual fashion pieces, with maybe a small accessory or two to complement the look.
Sporting Casual is just one of many releases of this type - sweater, trousers, shoes, but no extra bits and pieces.
Crisp 'N Cool had a bag and gloves as well, but still very much keeping to the bare essentials.
Some of these packs, though, really went the whole nine yards.
The Barbie Hostess Set from 1965 features two different outfits as well as a 46 piece cook and serve set. It has everything from pots and pans with lids to plates and cutlery.
The outfits were functionally recolours of other fashions from less over the top packs, but still. There's even candlesticks for the table!
And even then: Invitation to Tea was the original pink version of the red outfit from the Hostess Set, and that itself came with two teacups and a silver teapot. Silver! Barbie makes very fancy tea.
