Waking up on the floor from my drunken stupor at five in the evening is not how I'd expect today to go. But it's what I deserve after the things I said to Lizzie. My love. My fiance. I didn't mean to hurt her. I wanted to let her know what I was feeling, but I was chasing her out of our Richmond home before I knew it.
That was three days ago.
I know by now she's back home. Or at least I hope. She has yet to call or text me, and I don't blame her. But I know she misses me, and I love her. I'm not going to give up.
_
After giving myself a much-needed shower and putting some of Lizzie's gross anchovy toast into my stomach, I decided to sit on our bed and call her. It's six now, so L.A. time it's..... ten in the morning. She'll probably be gardening, taking care of her little kiddos. She hates it when I call them that, but everyone knows she can be such a mom.
Okay, stop stalling, Robbie.
I unlock my phone and go to our text messages. My heart breaks a little looking at the last several texts I sent her. All left on DELIVERED.
I click on the call button, and to my surprise, I hear her angelic voice.
L: "Hello."
R: "Lizzie! Are you safe?"
L: "Yes, I am."
I can feel tension over the phone. I pause, thinking about how I want this conversation to continue.
R: "Lizzie I-."
L: "Why are you calling me?"
R: "Well, I haven't heard anything from you for three days, Lizzie. I was starting to get worried."
I hear Lizzie let out a heavy breath.
L: "Were you starting to get worried, or are you worried? There's a clear difference and let's not forget that you were the one that said you were having second thoughts and-"
She's right.
R: "Lizzie, I'm sorry. I know I hurt you, but that was not my intention-"
I hear Lizzie, and someone else starts laughing before Lizzie shushes whoever else is with her.
R: "Lizzie, are you laughing at me? Who are you with?"
L: "No, I'm not laughing at you, Robbie. Something funny just happened in front of me. Look, listen, I got to go. We can finish this talk later."
R: "Wait, Liz-"
L: "Alright."
R: "Elizabeth, I love you."
L: "Alright. See you later."
She didn't say it. The line goes dead. Once again, I'm left alone with my thoughts. I drop my phone onto our bed and begin dragging my feet into the kitchen. I grab the nearest bottle of brown bourbon, making a promise to myself to drink until I can't remember.
Y/N POV
I close the door to my apartment and lean my back against it. I let out the one squeal I've been holding in since she left me earlier. I know I shouldn't be freaking out. I mean, yes, it's a date, but it's not like a date date, right? We're just friends.
But she is insanely attractive, dresses so cool, her voice is soothing and cute, plus she makes me so comfortable and omg, I need to pick out an outfit! I sprint into my bedroom and rush head first into the closet.
"Now she said I don't have to wear anything too fancy, but what does that reallllly mean?"
I rip out half of my closet, searching for the perfect item, and after an hour, nothing calls to me. I flop myself onto the pile of clothes on my bed in frustration. Without realizing it, I begin to call my Mom.
M: "Y/N, are you alright?"
Y/N: "Yes, Mom, I'm fine. I just need some help."
M: "Some help? Help with what, darling?"
Y/N: "I'm going out with a friend tonight, and I have no idea what to wear!"
After painfully walking my Mom through the simple steps of modern technology, she begins to help me. However, over a half hour later, I quickly realized that she has no idea how I dress and what looks good. So I'm sadly back to step one.
M: "Y/N."
Y/N: "Yes." I responded, frustrated.
M: "If you're going to continue having an attitude, I'll hang up. I raised you better than that."
I walk off screen to mock her and throw my hands up at her.
M: "Y/N?"
I walk back in frame so she can see me.
Y/N: "You're right. I'm sorry." I lie.
M: "That's okay. Now, what about the black piece under your Taylor Swift Cardigan?"
I look for what she is talking about. Oh, this! I pick it up and hold it up to the camera.
M: "What do you think?"
I do like it, but I don't think it's good enough for Liz, but she told me not to wear anything too fancy. So I guess this should be okay? Plus, it's black, and black looks good all the time, right? I'm so tired of looking at my clothes, so this will have to do.
Y/N: "I think it could work. Thank you, Mom!"
M: "Of course, dear. Y/N promise me you'll call soon so we can have an honest talk about your life.
No.
Y/N: I promise
M: Now go get ready!"
Y/N: "Okay. Bye, Mom! Love you!"
M: "Love you too."
After hanging up with my Mom, a rush of panic runs over me as I realize how many texts I've missed from Liz.
Liz - Sexy ☕️ Bitch
I hope whenever you see this, you enjoy the name 🤍
Today 2:07 PM
You haven't seen my text yet 🥺
Oh completely forgot to send the address for tonight, so here you go! I can't wait! (address attached)
Hey Y/N, did you make it home okay?
Please text me when you see this.
Suppose you're having second thoughts about tonight. I'm sorry I feel like I'm pushing you.
Please text me or call me, so I at least know you are safe, but if you don't want to, I can understand. I'm sorry.
Oh my God! I've had Liz worrying this whole time. And Jesus, she is so fucking cute with all these texts. But oh my God, I'm an asshole!
Hey, I am so sorry! Yes, I'm alive. I just saw these texts!!!
I just got off the phone with my Mom.
She was helping me pick out an outfit for our date!
I'm so excited!
I just clicked on the link, and it's somewhere I've never been to, so now I'm extra excited!
The link could've been to a fucking Mcdonald's, and I would've still said what I awkwardly said.
Oh shit, she's typing.
Y/N, omg, I'm so glad you're alright. I swear I was about to go search all over the city.
I'm so so so sorry for making you worry! Can you forgive me?
I'll think about it!
Okay, I thought about it.
Yeah, I forgive you lol
(Aww, that's cute. She still uses lol)
Whew, thank you, Liz
So do you like it?
Like what?
My name in your phone?
It's perfect.
😊
so you going to tell me what you're wearing tonight or is it a surprise?
Hmmmmmm
A surprise
But don't expect something crazy
😒 finneeee
Hey, I don't need any sas from you, Miss.
I'm glad you remembered Miss not Ma'am like a good girl.
So I'll see you at 7. Don't be late
I practically throw my phone across the room after reading that last text! Good girl! Good girl, she said! She has to know what she's doing! Right? Fuck, this actually might be a date date! How me? Why me? Oh shit, I need to start getting ready NOW!
After giving myself the most needed shower in history, I sat on the floor debating on what shoes I wanted to pair with my black bishop sleeve dress. I think heels would work, but I hate wearing them, so I'm going to hedge my bet and wear my black vans to match. Liz did say it wasn't too fancy of a place!
I slip on the dress and walk into my bathroom to look myself over once more. Even before Naomi ruined me, I don't think I ever looked at myself more than I have tonight. It was not exactly easy when all you've been told is how unattractive you are and how lucky you should be that even be graced in the presence of someone who was supposed to love you no matter what.
I reach my hand out and touch the mirror of my hand. Yep this person looking back at me is me. Tonight I don't look at myself with hate and disgust. This is a moment I hope to save. I look down at my counter space and search through all my bathroom drawers and cabinets until I spot my make-up bag.
"Let's do this, huh?"
_
Liz POV
(What Liz is wearing tonight and awww, look cute, Aubrey)
"I should've just had someone pick her up. What was I thinking?" I look at my phone - 7:04. Where the hell is she? I run my hand through my hair. "Y/N would've told me if she was backing out. She's probably rushing to get here. I trust her." I put my head into my hands. My mind is spiraling into a panic, and the constant thoughts of the last three days don't help. But seeing and meeting Y/N has been a bright light. Literally, since I saw her that first day, I can't help but think of her being all cute while reading my order back to me. I feel drawn to her, and I can't explain it.
"Liz?"
I look up, and it's her. She's here!
"Y/N!" I walk up to her and hug her. I feel like I caught her off guard because the hug she gives me back isn't a full one. "You ready?"
"Yeah, sorry I'm a little late. I got turned around at one point, and........" I hear her, and I'm trying to process what she is saying, but it's slowly becoming gibberish as my eyes start wondering. Y/N is doing things to me right now. Who knew just a black dress and vans could look so good on someone. My eyes work back to her face and her cherry-red-covered lips. She's beautiful.
"Liz?" Y/N breaks my thoughts. "We going inside?" I nod, grab her hand, and head in. I make a beeline to the hostess. The hostess looks us up and down with a stank face. Bitch.
"Name?"
Now for my favorite part. "MK," I say in my most bitchy voice. I watch from the corner of my eye Y/N look at me, confused, before looking back to the hostess, flustered and embarrassed.
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, Mar-MK. I didn't recognize you with your sunglasses on and your new friend. Please give me one moment." I watch her squirm and phone someone. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this.
The hostess ends the call as a waiter dressed in all-white tux approaches.
"Walter will be taking care of the two of you tonight. Once again, MK, I apologize for my ignorance tonight. I hope you and your friend can forgive me." The pleads fall on deaf ears as I pull Y/N to follow Walter to our private table.
I look back at Y/N, who has a face painted with amazement. Everyone in this place screams money, and I feel a little regret bringing Y/N to such a place on the first date. Once we reach our table, I pull a chair out for Y/N. She thanks me as I take a seat opposite her. Before Walter can even ask, I answer. "Red." Walter nods his head and disappears.
"Okay, what the fuck was all of that!" I don't think I've ever heard anyone this giddy before. I smile and explain that I used my sister's name to get us a table here and that fucking with the snobby people is all good fun. Y/N laughs, and it warms my heart to see that after seeing how she was at the park. Walter returns with two glasses and a handpicked bottle of Red.
"For you and your friend."
"Thank you, Walter." I address the man but stare at Y/N as she ogles everything around her. She's so cute.
"I shall be back momentarily." Walter leaves us, allowing my date with Y/N to begin properly.
I grab my glass as Y/N follows suit. "To tonight and everything that comes with it." Y/N and I share a smile as we each take a sip.
Comfortable silence begins to build. I don't mind because it gives me time to get lost thinking about the woman in front of me.
"So, do you just wear those sunglasses all the time, or are you hiding something?" I smirk at her question. "And what if I am hiding something?" She leans in. "Then I'd like for you to share it with me." Okay, Liz, moment of truth. I feel my nerves working their way up my body. Y/N would've known by now. I don't want to brag, but I'm Elizabeth Olsen!
I remove my sunglasses and set them on the table. I look Y/N straight in her eyes. I watch them go from eager to wide. Oh no. This was a mistake. "Wow." Is all Y/N can manage to spurt out of her mouth. I panic. "I know, Y/N! I feel like I should've to-"
"Your eyes." I stop in my tracks. "What Y/N?"
"Your eyes are so beautiful." Is this happening? "I mean, now I can clearly see you. You are so beautiful, Liz, but your eyes are like hiding their own little emerald forest inside them. Wow." I feel the butterflies inside of me multiply.
"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry- I shouldn't-" Y/N's eyes divert to the wine glass and then back to me. "What did Walter put in this?" Y/N asks, taking another sip, causing me to hunch over laughing. "Walter sure knows how to pick them, huh?" I respond, watching Y/N giggle to herself. Okay. So she really has no idea who I am.
"So the whole point of this dinner was to get to know each other. So let's start." I don't want to waste any more time. I want to know Y/N.
"Okay, I'll try not to struggle, but no promises, Liz." Y/N gives a half-hearted smile. She seems to get nervous when attention is shown her way. Or maybe it's just me? "Y/N, I just want you to know tonight is supposed to be fun, so there is no pressure here. Tell me if we get onto a topic you don't feel comfortable with. Okay?" I assure her. Y/N shines me a smile that could light up the world till the end of time. "Thank you, Liz."
"Of course. Let's each take a big sip of this wine, and then I'll ask a question." Without another word, a chug of wine goes down my throat. Y/N once again follows suit.
"Oh, that's them!" Trent says with a certain excitement in his voice as he races to the door. "Who?!" I tell after him but by the attentional voices entering the house. I know exactly who it is.
"Lizzie?!"
God damn it.
I get up and off the couch to greet my (step) sister & brother Courtney and Jake. I breathe a little sigh of relief when I don't see any sign of our Dad. "What are you two doing here?"
"Us? What about you?" Courtney says with a sly smile while rushing over to me to pull me into a big that I swear is going to cause my chest to collapse. "I just wanted to visit before going to a friends!" I cheerfully say while eyeing my sister. Her eyes look away from me while Jake pulls me into a hug. "How's filming?"
"Good!" I say, adding more enthusiasm to my voice. "Can you spill secrets yet or what?" If only he knew. "Never." Jake rolls his eyes and makes his way toward Trent. "Where's Jarnie?" Court asks next to me. "In the kitchen." Out of the corner of my eye, I see Jake and Trent head that way.
"So, what are you two doing here?"
I mean, no offense, but them coming here without Dad doesn't happen often.
"Well, I wanted to come over and see Jarnie and Trent since I've been away this past month. Plus, while you were filming in London, I'd try and stop by and see Jarnie and have dinner and stuff." Courtney's voice trails at the end of the sentence. I know she loves my- our family, so I didn't mean to sound rude if I came across that way.
"Right. Of course! I didn't know about the dinners, but that's nice!" Court shines a smile at me that I give back. "Let's go see the woman of the hour!" I place my arm around Courtney and bring him into the kitchen, where Jake and Trent are already pushing her buttons.
"Okay, that's enough! Every Olsen with a penis, get out!"
I physically have to stop myself from covering my face while Courtney laughs and the boys groan with a couple of ewws and gross Jarnie. Once the boys leave to do whatever they want to do, Courtney greets my mother. "Hey J!" She says as they have a short hug. "How was Mexico?" My mom asks Court before getting back to working on dinner. I see now that my mom did wind up preparing food for more than just three people. So she knew Jake and Court were coming? Hmm.
"Oh my gosh! It was so wonderful! Between the beaches, the sun, and the authentic Mexican food, I could've died." She looks so bubbly as she speaks. I knew she looked tanner, but then again, she lives in California, so whatever.
"When did you get back?" I ask, leaning myself into the kitchen island, pulling Court's attention to me. "LAX. Earlier today." My eyes widen at the answer as my mom briefly looks up at us. "So did Lizzie." Thanks, mom.
"Did you?!" Court doesn't look as surprised as her voice sounds. Does she know? "Anyways, Lizzie, I gotta show you some of the pictures I took!" Court starts patting herself down as if she's looking for her phone. But I see the outline in her front pocket. "Probably left it in the living room. Come on." She pretends to sound annoyed as we leave my mom alone to finish up tonight's pasta.
The second we're out of earshot from Momma J, Courtney pulls me to the couch and brings her phone to my face. "Oh my God!! Lizzie, who is the girl!? Is that THE Y/N?! Please tell me that's her! Is she here?!"
When my eyes adjust to a phone being shoved in my face, I see the picture that Courtney is talking about. It's of Y/N and I, you can clearly see Y/N, but you wouldn't know that the other person was me, but I know it's me. Court knows it's me.
"Well?!" The phone is being removed from my sight as my face turns to see my sister, happy as can be, asking her question again and again.
Y/N POV
"So, are you back together?"
"We'll hello to you too, Mary-Kate!" I roll my eyes as I flop back onto the soft bed. "Yeah yeah yeah, hello and all that. Now answer my question."
"No."
"No?"
"No, we are not back together and- wait, how did you get that picture?!" I raise myself from the bed as the line goes quiet. "Are you in LA?"
"No." MK finally breathes into the phone. "Okay... Mary-Kate. How did you get that picture?"
"My sister took it. She couldn't believe she saw Lizzie and her friend at the airport. She would've gone up and said something, but in her own words, they goin' through it."
"Ashley?" I hear Mary-Kate's laughter erupt into the phone. "No, my other sister. Courtney."
Oh, that's right! Damn. I always forget that there's more than just the twins.
"If you must know, she flew back in from Mexico today, and to her surprise, she just so happened to see the two of you. She had heard of you and seen some of the articles from the last couple of months, so when she saw the two of you, she sent me that picture with the text, "omg, who is with Lizzie?! Is that Y/N?!" So, could you, honestly, answer my question? Are you back together?"
As MK keeps talking, I can't believe what's happening. Of course, the day I ran into Liz at the airport, her sister just so happened to be there and see us.
So weird how you run into people at the airport.
I don't know why MK asked me again. The answer still hasn't changed, and as if she wouldn't know. I roll my eyes. "Please, at this point, you'd find out before me." I laugh to myself, but MK doesn't find it funny. "What do you mean?"
MK POV
"What, Liz didn't call you the second she left the airport?"
Well, no, Y/N, she didn't. It's been three weeks since I saw or heard from Lizzie. The last thing she said to me was an apology before walking out of my apartment at two am. And through the efforts of my twin, I still have yet to talk to our little sister. Since I'm not the one that blamed my fuck-ups on other people. I'm not the one that was angry at themselves. No those go-to little miss perfect.
"No, she didn't."
Apart of me wants to spill it to Y/N that, I haven't actually talked to Lizzie in weeks, but that'd be unfair and messed up to do, so I choose to keep it to myself. Just don't expect Lizzie and I in the same room anytime soon.
"Oh. Well, to answer your question. Again. No. We're not together. I promise you. We just ran into one another."
I couldn't help but hear a slight pain in Y/N's voice as she finished her plea. She misses her. "Oh.. well then, I guess my next question is, what are you doing in California?" For real, what is she doing?
"Seeing some friends."
"Friends, huh?"
"Yes, friends. I'm allowed to have friends that aren't famous." I can feel the playful eye roll across the county. "Okay, sure. But I have to know their names. What if something happens to you?"
"Fine. It's James. Max's brother." I'm trying to scratch my brain, knowing I know who she's talking about, but I'm coming up blank until Y/N says. "Remember from the club?" That's right. "Oh, right! I didn't know he lived out there."
"He moved here not to lon-" I hear a couple of knocks followed by Y/N shuffling her phone and her mumbled voice. "Oh shit, sorry MK, if I don't go and shower now, then we'll be late for dinner, AND before you joke, it's with his gf and Max's family." I laugh, knowing how well Y/N knows me. "Okay, I'll let you go, but I swear to God, I better not see a headline or photo about you without me knowing first!" I hear some laughs. "Trust me, I wasn't trying to photograph, but I'll keep you up to date." The sarcasm really rolls off her tongue today. "Alright, talk to you soon, Y/N!"
"Bye, Mary-Kaaattte!"
Our call ends, and I'm left looking at the photo Courtney sent. I stared at it earlier before I called Y/N up, and now here I am again looking at it. Fuck. The look Y/N has in her eyes, I've seen it before. Both times the look has been for Lizzie.
I set my phone down on my desk and sigh, running my hand through my hair.
I look up as I hear a knock on my open office door. "You okay?" I smile at the sight of my personal assistant Ruby. "Yeah, I'm good." I believe I made it sound convincing. I'm still an actress, after all. "Okay. Well, I came to drop these off." She says as she walks in and places a stack of binders for an upcoming shoot on my desk. "Ash has copies already. Also, your Friday meeting got pushed up. It's on your updated schedule."
Times like this make me value the people my sister and I choose to surround ourselves with. I swear, without them, we'd sink. "Thank you, Rubes!" I put on a smile as Ruby shines one back before turning to walk away. As I see the back of my assistant, an idea comes across my mind. "Rubes!" Quick on her heels, Ruby turns right back. I take a glance at my phone to check the time. "I know it's getting late, but do you have plans later?"
"No, Miss Olsen." I roll my eyes with a slight chuckle. She's been working here for 4 years formalities went out the window a while ago. "No, Mary-Kate." I remind her.
"No, Mary-Kate. I don't have plans. Do you need something?" I shake my head. "No, I was just wondering if you'd accompany me for some coffee and dinner. I know a cute spot."
Ruby doesn't seem to be stunned by my request. It wouldn't be the first time we've hung out after work. "Sure. I'd like that! Would you like for me to reserve a private table at either place?"
"For coffee, no. I'm friends with the manager, and for dinner, don't bother. They'll know who I am." Ruby smiles and leaves me alone in my office. I decide to try and finish up any work emails I have at the moment. I'm halfway through reading about a promotion opportunity when my cellphone rings. I let it ring and ring until it goes quiet.
When I peer down, I'm thoroughly shocked at the name I see: The Third One 🤍
My sister. Lizzie Olsen.
Liz POV
"Well?!" The phone is being removed from my sight as my face turns to see my sister, happy as can be, asking her question again and again.
"No. We're not together." Courtney slums her shoulders as she seems disappointed. "Oh.. I mean, it looks like you two were goin' through it. I just thought it was the idea of meeting Jarnie or the paparazzi." Courtney laughs a little to break the tension. I laugh a bit, but my mind is stuck thinking about Y/N's last touch of her fingers on my body.
"Lizzie?"
"Hmm?" I lift my head a bit to stop my thoughts. "So if you guys aren't together, where is she? What is she doing here?"
"She's just meeting some friends here. I didn't know she was until we ran into each other at the airport."
Court nods her head as she listens. "You guys didn't look.. disappointed to see each other." I smile. "I wasn't. I missed her." I clear my throat as I can feel my cheeks start to get warm. "I'm sorry." I look at my little sister, confused. "I'm sorry for all that happened to you and her and for not reaching out when it happened." I place an arm around my sister as she leans into me. "That's okay. I'm okay now. It fucking sucks that it happened, but honestly.. we're- I'm going to be okay." Courtney puts both her arms around me and squeezes. "Just so you know, Jake and I are both proud of you. I'm telling you now in case he forgets to say something." Courtney pulls out of the hug, and I look at the smile on my sister. I don't know why I was ever nervous to tell anyone in my fam-. "Dad doesn't know." Oh right. Fuck how am I going to tell him? "Dad doesn't even know about me.."
I whip my head at the words I just heard. "You?!" Courtney tilts her head as if this is old information. "I told the siblings months ago." I shake my head as I've never heard this before. "No, you didn't." Court pulls out her phone and opens the group chat with all the siblings. Well, everyone except me. God. This is just like the Avengers all over again. "Court, you have Robbie in there, not me." "WHAT?!" Court immediately rips her phone back from me and looks through the contacts in the chat. It doesn't take long for her to come to the same conclusion. "Oh shit. I guess when I set this up, you two were still together, and you might've been busy, so I just added him! Oh shit, Lizzie, I'm sorry!-" "Courtney! It's okay!" I place my hand over her mouth to stop her rambling. I don't need her to spiral. I remove my hand as Courtney takes a breath. "I was wondering why you never texted me about switching teams." I laugh as she scrolls through the chat. She passes by a lot of tiktoks and memes. I think if I even were in this chat, I would've talked about as much as I have without being in it. "I guess I'll set up a new one with all of us and no Robbie."
"Thanks, Court. I'm proud of you as well." Courtney smiles as she exits the one chat to make a new one. I don't mean to watch, but I can't help but notice that Court and Mary-Kate have recently texted. "Hey, Court, what have you and MK talked about?" I let those words fall out of my mouth without stopping them. "Oh. Uh.. We were talking about you and Y/N." Courtney goes back down and opens the chat. Inside I see the photo of Y/N and me, along with texts between my two sisters. "See, nothing bad!" I roll my eyes. "I hoped not." Courtney goes ahead and sets up the new sibling's group chat without Robbie this time. I make sure to text in it first, so everyone knows I'm there.
"Okay, girls!!" We both perk up as we hear my mom call to us from the kitchen. I glimpse at the time on my phone and didn't realize had much time went by. "Come on!" Courtney pulls me up and off the couch. "Oh, by the way, is Trent really annoying about his gf?" I smirk. "A bit." "Well, thank goodness you're here!" I laugh as Courtney pulls me to the kitchen.
"Actually, one second." I hold my hand up and pull my phone out. "I'm going to make a call, and then I'll help!" I shoot my sister a smile as she nods and goes ahead.
Once I click on the name and hear the line ring, I take a deep breath hoping to talk to someone I need to apologize to.
Y/N POV
Why do other people's showers always work differently? I swear it took me 5 minutes to try and make the water the right temperature. So now here I am post-shower, rushing to put on what little makeup I have with me while deciding what to wear.
"Hey, Y/N, I don't wanna rush you, but we gotta go soon. Like real soon." James says through the bedroom door. "Okay!" Great. I move myself like a tornado around the bedroom, and in the end, I find myself dressed in a long sleeve keyhole dress that stops just above my knees. I don't even remember buying or packing this dress, so I'm pretty sure I've been transported to another universe, or we do live in a simulation.
Anyways we made it. James is parking his car in front of some modern look ass restaurant, and suddenly, that's when the nerves hit me.
"Shit," I mumble to myself as I hear James unbuckle himself. "What?" I look at him, and my eyes scan over his button-up shirt and dress pants. He's looking smart for once in his life. Lmao. "Y/N?" I meet his eyes. "Chill," Easier said than done. "My parents love you, alright. What's got you nervous?" I shrug my shoulders. I really don't know why. It's like the time I had a panic attack because I couldn't find the pair of sunglass that I bought one day prior. "Take a couple of deep breaths, and then we'll hop out, and then you'll meet-
Andrea!" James drops his arm behind my back as he fast walks/jogs up to a short girl with Auburn hair. They kiss as I look her over. She's thin and tan, but her arms! Her arms have got definition to them, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't stare at them as they wrapped themselves around my best friend's brother. I shut my mouth as the couple turns to look at me. "Andrea, this is Y/N! Max's best friend and essentially my little sister." I playfully roll my eyes as I shake Andreas' hand. Hmm. Soft. "Nice to meet you! James has told me so much about you!"
"I didn't know about you till a couple of hours ago!" Andrea and James look at me, shocked, until Andreas' face softens. "Keep that up, and we'll get along great!" I laughed along with her even though what I said I didn't mean to say. It just happened. "Are my parents here yet?" James takes a quick look around as we stand in the orange dusk of the night. "They're already inside. I just wanted to meet you and Y/N first." She giggles to James, and now I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable.
"Well, thanks, babe!" James turns to me. "Let's go!"
Liz POV
I'm not going to lie. The fact that my mom made homemade pasta so effortlessly pisses me off a little. I tried and tried and tried and came up with lumpy dry shit, and she knocks it out of the park. Ugh. But yes, my mom is fantastic, and dinner was delicious and fun.
It brought me a bit out of the fog I've been stuck in lately. I've done my best to navigate through it, but sometimes a home-cooked meal surrounded by loved ones is all you need.
Throughout dinner, Trent gushed about his girlfriend and all the things they plan to do over the next couple of months. Courtney caught us all up on her shenanigans that she's been doing. The pictures she showed us from Mexico were beautiful, and she had a certain glint in her eye when she mentioned one of her friends. Jake talked about the idea of modeling again, but he's not sure. He also tried to get me to spill spoilers for anything Marvel-related, but thankfully mom was there to stop him.
Of course, when it was my turn to talk about my life, there wasn't anything new to say. Thanks to the media and my life on the big screen, everyone already knows everything. So all I got instead was a show of support.
_
"Who wants to microwave popcorn?" Trent yells out to the house as I put my phone down, just as the third phone call to Mary-Kate goes to voicemail.
"Lizzie?" I flash my eyes to Jake and put on a fake warm smile. "What?" "Are you cool if we watch Interstellar?"
"Oh yeah, sure! I won't be staying anyways, so go ahead." All three of my siblings at once go:
"What do you mean?" "Excuse me?" "You're not staying?"
"Guys, I'm staying at Aubrey's. She's on her way over."
"Are you sure, Lizard?" I roll my head over to my mother. "Yes. I already promised her, and she's an impossible person to say no to." I raise my finger up to Trent, knowing he was about to say something inappropriate. "Oh, come on." He whines.
"Listen." I get up from the couch, making my way to all my bags near the front door. "Now that I'm back, I'll be able to spend more time with you all. Alright? But for real, if I don't stay at Aubrey's, she will kill me." It's a joke, but low-key isn't.
Everyone begrudgingly agrees and starts forming a line to say goodbye. With my mom being last and squeezing my brains out until we hear a horn honking. "I love you all!" With a mixture of I love yous back, I open the front door but turn around. "Could someone grab the guitar?"
"I got it!" Courtney quickly hops over and grabs it to help me bring it to Aubrey's car.
"Is this Robbies?"
"Y/N's."
Courtney doesn't say anything but mouth the word "oh."
"What up, you brunette whore!" I instantly find myself chuckling as Aubrey shouts from her car before she hops out, running around the front to tackle me into a hug! "I've missed you!!"
"I've missed you too!"
Aubrey stops the hug as she takes my luggage, tossing it into her trunk. "Who's this?" Aubrey says as she walks and points to Courtney. "My little sister Courtney." Courtney has met celebrities and models before, but I won't lie. Meeting someone like Aubrey Plaza is intimating. So maybe that's why she's as still as a scarecrow in a co- oh no, her favorite show is Parks and Rec!
"Oh shit, what's up!" Aubrey nods to Court. "You're amazing," Courtney mumbles before realizing what she just did. "I like this one," Aubrey says to me as she brings Court into a hug. While they do that, I take the guitar case and put it into Aubrey's backseat. "See you, Lizzie!" I turn back, and see Courtney walking back to the house, excited as can be.
"What did you say to her?"
"I just did her favorite April Ludgate quote and said her name in that voice." I shake my head as we get into the car. "What's with the guitar case?" Why is that anyone wants to talk about? I used to play as well, people!
"It's Y/N's. Long story." Aubrey laughs as she pulls out of my mom's driveway. "Good thing we have until I kick your ass out."
"Which you never would!"
"No, of course not. I let you go once, Lizzie Olsen. I'm not making that mistake again!" Aubrey yells into the car, making us both laugh.
If I do go missing, you know where to look.
"Alright, be honest with my Lizzie. When they're putting all that paint on Paul Bettany, how much time do they spend on his penis?"
Y/N POV
"Let's see.. Oh! There was one time Max told me that James thought honey was bee poop, so he refused to eat it! To this day, if you bring up anything with honey, you can see him hesitate." Everyone at the table erupts in laughter as I've taken this opportunity to embarrass James. Hey, it's not my fault he had to go to the bathroom.
"Oh my God! Is that why he never puts honey in his tea?!" Andrea looks at me with bewilderment. "One hundred percent, dear!" James' mom Barbara says from across the table.
"What's so funny?"
The table does their best to try and calm down from the laughter, but I'm pretty sure James figured out what happened.
"Which story did you tell?" James glares right at me. "The honey one." James sighs, defeated. "For the last time, I didn't think it was poop; I thought it was throw-up. You know what, can we please finish up so we can go?" Andrea leans herself into her boyfriend. "Aww, is someone getting grumpy?" James rolls his eyes as his father, Randy, pats him on the back. "I regret introducing you two." I stick my tongue out at the party pooper as Andrea laughs.
"It's going to be okay, James," Barbara says to her only son. "Here, James, you can tell them embarrassing stories about me while I go to the ladies' room." I stand up and push my chair in as Andrea stands up. "I'll join you. James, you better not share anything embarrassing about me!" While Andreas' threat was delivered as a joke, I wouldn't mess with her. Andrea turns to me and takes my hand.
_
So I thought Andrea knew where the bathroom was, but it turns out she was hoping I knew where it was. Anyways it took us longer than an average person should. Once both get done doing what we came to do and wash out hands, Andrea turns to me. "Am I okay?" I turn my head confused. "What do you mean?"
"Like, do you like me?"
"Oh.. Yeah. I think you're great." I mean, I've only known you for like two hours but sure. "Okay. I know Max, and I have had problems in the past, and her opinion means so much to James and his family, but to James himself, your opinion matters too.
"Oh..." I continue drying my hands as I think about what I've just been told. "Well, until you fuck up, I think you'll be fine." Andrea laughs. "Is it cool if I hug you?" I nod as I feel those strong arms wrap me up. I almost comment but stop myself. "Thank you, Y/N!"
"Of course!"
With both of us freshened up, we leave the bathroom, and this time we know which way to go back to our table. As we're making our way back, I spot someone from the corner of my eye. I slow down as their table comes up next to me.
"Robbie?"
Aubrey POV
Okay, whoever the fuck keeps ignoring Lizzies call needs to answer it. She's done it three times since we left her mom's, and every time they don't pick up, Lizzie keeps looking more frustrated and sad.
"Alright, phone down or give it to me," I say as she goes to try again. "Who the hell keeps ignoring you anyways?" Lizzie sighs and drops her phone. "Mary-Kate."
I wasn't expecting that answer. I turn the car as we pull up to my house. "I thought you were going to paint it?"
"Yeah, but I'm probably going to move soon anyways, so it can be someone else problem." Lizzie nods as I park the car. "Where would you move?" I shrug as we both hop out. "I don't know wherever the great Elizabeth Olsen goes next."
"You keep talking like that, and people will start to think that Ingrid Goes West is a documentary." She laughs that angelic laugh of hers as we finish bringing her luggage to the front door—guitar case in her hand. "So." I pull out my key and unlock the door. "Why is your sister ignoring you?" Lizzie groans, knowing I won't drop this.
"Let's get this stuff inside, and I'll explain."
"You better. I know when you're lying."
"That was one time!"
_
After showing my Olsen to her quarters and guest bathroom, she decided that she would take a shower, and we'd just chill here for the remainder of the night. My original plan was to go out, but we have all the time in the world.
Oh, also, when Lizzie wasn't looking, I took her phone and put MK's number in my phone so that she won't ignore her sister this time.
"Aubrey?!"
"Yeah!" Shit, I guess she's done with her shower. "Have you seen my phone?" I immediately down my glass of red and slide the phone to the opposite end of the kitchen counter. "Yeah, I think it's down here."
"Okay, I'll be down in a sec."
Liz POV
I could've sworn I had my phone with me when I went to shower, but I guess I'm just tired from all my travel today. After a quick nightly routine, I head downstairs to find Aubrey sitting on her couch with a glass of wine in her hand and a bottle in front of her. Oh, it's going this kind of night.
"Hey, pretty girl!" Okay, the pet names have started, so Aubreys already downed a glass. I wave to cutie on the couch and search for my phone. "I think it's on the kitchen counter." I look over, and sure enough, there it is! "Thanks!" I am about to start fiddling with my phone when Aubrey begs for me to join her on the couch. So without missing a beat, I grab a glass from her cabinet and join her.
"So, what are we watching?" I ask as I sit myself down next to Aubrey, making sure to pull a blanket across the two of us. "I don't know. Nothings been catching my eye. Want to take a look?"
"Sure." I grab the remote from her and begin searching. Every time I passed one of my movies, I felt a nudge from Aubrey until I passed by Oldboy, and I felt nothing.
I look to my left and see Aubrey calling someone, but it looks like they didn't pick up. "Damn it," Aubrey exclaims before calling them again. "Who is it?" Aubrey smiles at me before I hear a faint "hello!?"
Next thing I know, Aubrey's phone is shoved into the side of my face, and I'm left wondering what the hell is happening.
MK POV
I'm standing in the ladies room of the restaurant I took Y/N too the first day I met her. Except instead of Y/N I brought Ruby. I'm not wanting or expecting anything to happen between us because they would be very wrong, but I need a win. Right?
Almost like a sign interrupting my thoughts, my phone rings out for the seventh time in the last couple of hours. I know exactly who it is, and I know I'm going to break down and answer her soon but not right now.
I pull my phone out to watch Lizzies contact disappear, but instead, it's an unknown number. But not only that, but it's a California number. Shit, what if this is important.
I take the gamble and decide to answer it. "Hello!?"
Y/N POV
"Y/N?"
The bearded man himself looks up from the woman sitting across from him. "Oh my God! Hey! What are you doing here?" Robbie lifts himself from the table and brings me into a hug. "I'm here with James and his family."
"Oh, right. So that was here? Small world."
"It just keeps getting smaller." I practically mumble to myself before turning my attention to the woman across from Robbie. "Hi, I'm Y/N!" I extend my hand out to her, and she looks at me, astonished, before looking at Robbie. "This is Y/N?" Robbie smiles and chuckles. "The one and only." I retract my hand and focus on the table in between them. I see a glass of white wine in front of the woman but water in front of Robbie. I make a mental note to congratulate Robbie later. It looks like they both paid separately, so this isn't a date. I look at the woman again, and she looks so familiar.
"Y/N, this is Marlana!" Robbie introduces me. She waves to me as the name clicks. "Oh! From Milo Greene!" She nods with a smile. "Sorry I didn't recognize you."
"Believe me that's alright." Robbie and her laugh as I feel a tap on my shoulder. "Y/N. You okay?" I look to my left to see James. "Oh yes." Shit, I forgot I was on my way back to a table full of people. "Sorry, I just ran into Robbie and Marlana." I gesture to the two as they wave to James. "This is James." Robbie makes an "oh!" face. "Y/N, I'd hate to pull you away, but we just finished up-"
"Oh, you guys paid? I told you I was-"
"I know, but it was my Dad, so I couldn't really argue." I roll my eyes, but I understand. "I'm going to go, Andreas, tonight, so here." James places his keys in my hand. "I should be back tomorrow before you head out." He glances toward Robbie. "Alright, thanks." I look behind James to see only Andrea standing at the front of the restaurant. She sees me and waves, so I wave back. "Tell your dad I said thank you!" James nods his head. "I will. I will."
"Alright, well, drive safe." "You too." James and I share a hug before he makes his exit with his strong-armed girlfriend. I turn my body back to the table with two-thirds of Milo Greene. "Cute boyfriend." Robbie practically chokes on his water as Marlana's joke hits my ears. "Ha ha ha," I reply back as Robbie wipes himself down.
"Well, it was nice to meet the two of you-" "Oh, trust me, it was nice to put a face to a name. Robbie spent most of tonight talking about the work he's excited to do." Robbie sheepishly looks away from me. "Whatever you two put together, I'd love to hear it." Marlana smiles. I fix my eyes to Robbie, who looks back. "Sure! We'd love that."
"Great! Well, Robbie, Y/N, I'll take this as my leave and see you when I see you." She gets up and hugs the two of us before she's out the door.
"She moves fast!"
"That she does.. Oh shit." Robbie sighs as I sit in the chair across from him. "What?"
"She was my ride." I laugh as Robbie's groans turn into a chuckle. "Think she did it on purpose?"
"Marlana? 100%!" I let the moment between us rest, but I decided to speak up when I saw Robbie's eyes dart to the glass of wine.
"I'll give you a ride." Robbie smiles. "Thanks. You'd be kind of a dick to leave me now." I lean forward. "But I still can." Robbie agrees and looks out the windows across the restaurant.
The smile he has drops.
"Oh shit."
"What?" I follow Robbie's eyes, and that's when I see them.
Paparazzi.
And they just got the perfect shot for tomorrow's headline.
That first day with my mom in the city consisted of getting lunch in said city because my mother demanded it. So Liz took us to a place called Marc Forgine. It was basically overpriced and deconstructed foods. We enjoyed what we got but catch me missing it next time. I know Liz took us there to try and woo my mother, and it worked. Like a charm.
Next, we walked. Yes walked. To the 9/11 Museum and the memorial pools. Which my mom was grateful for. It was eerily silent while walking around. It's like there was a bubble around us at all time with how quiet it became. Liz talked about how she only came here twice. Once while she was at NYU and again when the museum opened up, that led to a line of questioning from my mother about Liz's time at NYU. Luckily the conversation steered away from the typical "Y/N, when are you going back to school?" Bs that I got.
After that, we decided to make our way back up towards Soho. Like the true tourist my mom was being, she stopped at almost every little bodega and mom-and-pop shop. She claimed they were "cute" and "historic." While she's not wrong, she sure knew how to waste time. But it made me happy to see my mom dawn a smile I hadn't seen in a while.
Even though this was the first day of many we spent with my mom, this day had an excellent memory tied to it. My mom found out about my very famous girlfriend and seemed to deal with it very well. Not that should wouldn't have. I mean, she knows I'm gay. And she loves that Liz got us into some exclusive places for dinner. But it's just nice not to hide someone special to me. I only bring that up because later that Tuesday night, when it was just Liz and I before Max came over for Avengers, Liz shyly told me she'd be speaking to her mom about us soon.
At first, I didn't know what to say. But when the words came to me, I told her I'd be there to support her no matter what.
By the way. Yes, I enjoyed Avengers. I would've enjoyed it more, but from the moment Natasha Romanoff came on screen, Liz's eyes were on me. It didn't help that her first scene is what it is!
Don't worry once Max went home after the movie, Liz made sure to let me know who I should have eyes for.
I have marks to prove it!
Anyways! Every day after the first day played out very similarly. We'd get up early, and either have breakfast at my apartment or join up with my mom and have brunch somewhere in the city. Then we'd visit museums, parks, and other touristy things my mom wanted to do. Times Square and Katz Deli were two bucket list items for my mom, so we made sure to do that as soon as possible.
Without a doubt, this whole thing was a blast, and despite Liz only getting recognized a handful of times, these days were some of the happiest I've had in a while.
And yes, I got the time off for all of this from Max; however, this time, it costed more than a phone call with Chris Evans.
Max: Dude, come on!
Y/N: You can't be serious!
M: Says the employee who has days off like that's her job! Plus, I know you'll be asking for more in the future.
I groaned into the phone, knowingly how frustratingly accurate my best friend can be.
Y: Fine!!!
M: You'll do it?
Y: Yes, I'll ask her.
M: Ask her what?
Y: I'll ask my girlfriend. Elizabeth Chase Olsen. If you, my best friend Max, could get tickets to the premier of Multiverse of Madness.
M: It won't be that hard.
Y: You're insufferable.
M: And yet you love me.
Y: I'm starting to question why.
After a couple more minutes of banter, I end the call promising the whiny redhead that yes, I'll ask Liz and try and convince her to give Max a ticket. How that will happen? I have zero idea.
_
Anyways it's now Saturday. I still haven't asked Liz, and we just got done saying goodbye to my mom after dropping her off at the airport when Liz received a call. I turned the volume for the AUX down and let Liz peacefully take the call as I continue the drive.
Even though I couldn't determine what was happening, it sounded good. My thoughts were only confirmed when I saw my Lizard start smiling. That smile could do wonders. I manage to pull my eyes away since I'm the one driving. I would hate for Liz to end up in an accident and forget who I am.
Could you imagine?
After a few minutes of inching closer to home, Liz ends her call and looks towards me. I glance at her and smile at the sight before me. Liz has her bottom lip pulled into her mouth as she beams a big toothy grin at me.
"Yes, my love?" "I have news!" She squeals. "I can see that! Do you want to tell me now or not when I'm behind the wheel?" I ask that jokingly but Liz takes careful thought of my question before turning back to me. "Now!" She shoots out before kissing me on the cheek. That has to be some news! I reach my hand over and give her thigh a little squeeze. "Good ahead!"
"That was my agent-" "Marla?" Liz lets out a little huff. "No, she's my publicist! Rhonda is my agent." I roll my eyes. It's all the same thing. "Okay, sorry." I sarcastically reply, earning a slap on the arm before she continues. "She told me that HBO is wondering if I'd be interested in being a lead in their new show! Isn't that exciting!"
Oh.
I mean, yes. That's so exciting! But that means the real world is coming back, and Liz will have to be apart. I can feel myself getting worked up, and I'm too busy letting my own thoughts clog my brain that I forgot to even reply to Liz.
"If you don't want me to take it, just say so," Liz says, hurt pulling me from my mind. I turn towards her with panicked eyes. "No, Liz, I'm sorry, I jus-" She doesn't bother listening; instead, she turns up the volume drowning me out. Feeling defeated, I turn and focus on the road letting my dumb brain try to think of ways to explain myself and how to apologize.
_
When we pulled up to my apartment, the tension in the car only got worse.
Liz was quick to unbuckle herself, but I was faster to lock the doors from my side of the car trapping Liz in so we could talk.
"Y/N, let me out." She sternly tells me while not bothering to look at me. "Liz." I reach my hand out to her and calmly place it on her high. I watch her body relax to my touch, but she refuses to turn to me. "I-" Shit. I really should've thought about what to say.
"I- I think this is a great opportunity! It's exciting, Lizard. I meant to respond to you earlier, but I just got so wrapped up in my own head. I love to see you succeed! I love knowing that people want to work with you and have you as the face of their projects. But.. I-" Liz finally turns to face me. She can look into my eyes and see I'm telling her the truth, not just something she wants to hear. "I'm enjoying what we have now. I just don't want you to go back to your life and realize that I can't keep up or.. or worse. You realize that I don't deserve you..." Those last couple of words have been dancing around my mind for a while. I didn't mean to let them slip out. But it's too late now. I open my mouth to say more, but the words I want to say are stumbling over one another.
I didn't notice that I went quiet and was staring at my cup holders until Liz placed a hand under my chin and lifted it so I could see her face. Correction. So I can see her eyes. Her kind green eyes that make me melt. Liz doesn't say anything. Instead, she wraps herself around me and lets our embrace do the talking for now.
I don't know how long we sat like that, but eventually, Liz pulls back and cups her hands around my face. "Why do you think I told you about the gig in the first place?" She asks me in almost a whisper like she's afraid I'll break from loud noises. Silly but caring.
I don't know why Liz asked me, so I answer with a shrug earning a tight-lipped smile from her. "I told you about it because I wanted to talk to you first. I wanted to know what you thought. How you felt? What you think I should do." Okay? Liz knows I'm a little slow today, so she leans in and kisses my nose. "You're my girlfriend, Y/N. I wanted to talk about this opportunity with my girlfriend. I want to know what my girlfriend thinks." I put my hands on top of her hands, which are still resting on my face. "I'm sorry. I just got scared for a second and-" "We're both over-thinkers." I smile. Liz and I get each other. But we're also like Liz said. Over-thinkers. We let ourselves get trapped in our heads. So conversation like this needs to happen.
Liz pulls me in for a soft kiss on the lips. I still smile into her lips from time to time because it's so outrageous who I'm kissing.
After a couple of seconds of silence pass, Liz breaks the air.
"Y/N. I enjoy what we have." I look up at her; her eyes, but to my surprise, their shut. "I don't want you ever to feel or think that I wouldn't. I also never want you to feel or think that you don't deserve what we have. What we're building too." She opens her glossy eyes. "I love you. I feel you. You deserve this happiness that you feel. You deserve to be loved. I am willing to give that love to the stars in the sky and back. You deserve us. You're more than enough. Okay?" I don't trust myself to speak because I know my voice will crack and the tears will start. So instead, I just nod and let my head fall against Liz. She begins to shower me with kisses. "We're in this together."
"I love you, Lizard." I look up to see Liz wipe away some of her tears and chuckle at the nickname she still receives.
It takes a bit more time, but I eventually unlock the car door, and before Liz steps out, I stop her one more time. "Take the job. I'm serious. I don't care where it takes you. I'll be there. We're in this together, my love." I step out of the car before seeing Liz's reaction, but I still catch a glimpse of it when she hops out of the vehicle. She scrunches her nose up and shines a big smile. Yep, this is the woman of my future.
The rest of the morning is spent relaxing and movie-watching in cozy clothes. Liz has slowly been educating me on the things I should've seen years ago. It's been fun! But we've concluded that she's more artsy and old school than I am in our movie choices. We're both still a little tired from earlier, so it wasn't long before we ended up crashing on the couch.
_
When I open my eyes, the sun is still out and shining on us, so I know it's still Saturday. Or I hope it is. I go to lift myself, but my body reminds me of the weight on my chest. I dart my eyes down and see the dirty blonde hair of a certain sleeping beauty. She has her arms on each side of my body and her mouth slightly open. She looks so cute that I take this opportunity for a little "payback." I manage to grab my phone from my pocket and take a picture of her sleeping.
After cooing over the photo, I set it as her contact photo for me and sent it to the Y/N & Twins group chat. Since I'm awake but can't move, I decide to spend some time on my phone catching up on things I've missed since Liz and my mom visited.
Not surprisingly, the news being tailored to me is now full of Marvel news and lifestyle updates.
I didn't even know they were releasing a Black Widow movie! I remember Max crying about Natasha for weeks, but I don't remember why... I bet she's happy she's getting her own movie.
I keep my volume low as I watch the latest trailer for Black Widow. I keep the volume low for two reasons. One, I don't want to wake Liz. Two, I'm not only afraid of what would happen if I woke her but what would happen if she woke up because I was watching a thing about Natasha. However, the question remains Should I since I just watched The Avengers? Probably not. But I'm bored at the moment, and this is here.
However, as soon as I start this New Trailer, it starts showing me scenes from movies I haven't seen. So maybe this isn't a good idea. I watch it cut to multiple movies before it's a scene of her and arrow guy. I quickly close out the video before anything else could happen. Or get spoiled for me.
I open the Y/N & Twins group chat, and before I can even think about what to stupidly do next, I get a call from the MK. Without thinking, I answer it, and before I can even share a greeting, MK interrupts.
MK: Where are you??
Does she sound stressed?
Y/N: At home?
M: With Liz? Why are you whispering?
Y: Yeah, who else would that be? And she's sleeping.
M: Wait, so she's back in the city, and neither of you told me?! Bitches.
I stifle a laugh as I squeeze myself out from under Liz. I make sure she is unbothered and comfortable before heading into my room.
Y: She surprised me earlier this week. We've just been enjoying our time.
M: Wait, did she meet your mom?
Y: Yes, and before you ask, everything is good. It all went well.
I hear MK let out a sigh of relief.
M: How long is she in town?
Y: My mom left this morning
M: Not your mom Y/N.
Y: Oh. Uhhh, it's kind of TBD.
I hear MK let out a small squeal.
M: Okay, the three of us are going out tonight! Wear something nice!
I go to try and argue, but I hear shuffling coming from MK's phone before she comes back.
M: Gotta go! Bye Y/N!
She draws out my name before she hangs up.
The call ends, and my phone returns to my group chat with the twins. They're both awwing over the photo, and MK thanks me for the new piece of blackmail.
"Babe?" I hear a groggy Liz call out. I put my phone away and walk back into the living room. Liz is now sat up. Her hair covering half of her tired pouty face. "Hi, love," I whisper to her as I kneel in front of her.
"Where'd you go?" She asks with a frown. "Your sister called-"
"Which one?"
"MK."
"Why?"
She seems more awake and slightly worried. "She wants us to hang out tonight?" Confusion forms onto my girlfriends face. "Just you two?" I shake my head and sit next to her on the couch. "No. Us three." I pull Liz close to me so she can lean her body onto mine.
Liz thinks about it for a moment before she nods to herself. "Okay." She buries her head into my side, causing me to lift my arm and gently place it down her body. I lean my head back and close my eyes, just enjoying this relaxing aftern-
"Wait.. she knows I'm here?" Liz looks up with wide eyes. I look down at her in a duh-like fashion before the dots connect.
"Oh. Yeah... I might have sent them a pic of you without thinking about it." "Them?" Liz leans up, so she's sitting next to me. "Your sisters?" "How? What pic?" I pull my phone out and show Liz the group chat with the pics. I watch as her eyes scan the words in front of her before she hits the pictures. I see a quick smile appear on her face before she looks at me and tosses my phone at me. The second I catch my phone, a pair of lips are on my own, along with a body straddling me. What starts as a quick kiss turns into a steamy minute make-out session.
Once we pull apart for air, Liz scrunches her face up at me. "Payback, huh?" I smile at her, and without saying anything, I show her that the pic is indeed her new contact photo. Her eyes peer over to my phone, and I watch her face drop. She slowly moves her eyes back to my own and gives me a vicious smile that is happy and shocked. I don't have to wait too much longer until once again I'm being showered in kisses.
Once Liz gives me mercy, she stops and pulls back. "I love it."
"Good, because I love you." I boop Liz's nose earning a laugh from her. "What time did my sister say to meet her?" I tilt my head in thought. "Uhh, I'm pretty sure she didn't give me a time or place." Liz rolls her eyes and slides off me and onto the couch. "Great. That means it's going to be somewhere fancy." "Are you sure?" Liz moves her head to face me. "Positive. But I'll double-check with her."
Liz reaches in her pocket for her phone, but I guess she remembered that she had left it in the kitchen when we returned from the airport. "Need me to call it?" Liz shakes her head. "No, I'll find it." I watch Liz huff before getting off the couch looking for her phone.
Liz POV
I find my phone, and thankfully I only have a couple of texts and none of them urgent.
I click on the texts from Robbie I find myself smiling down at them.
"Got this earlier this week!
(picture attached)
Thank you for being my worry detective all these years. Your support still means the world.
Now go enjoy your time with Y/N."
I can feel myself getting a little teary-eyed, and I know Y/N felt the air in the room change because, soon enough, I have a pair of arms wrapped around me with a body pressed up against my back.
"Hey, baby, what's wrong?" I turn around to face Y/N. "Nothings wrong." I shove my phone into her left hand so she can see what I see. I bring her right hand into my own and pull myself closer to her.
"Wow." My ears catch Y/N's whisper. "That's amazing." I feel Y/N kiss the top of my head. "I'm proud of him, Liz." I look at my girlfriend. "Me too."
She positions my phone back in front of me. I grab it and look back down at the picture.
Robbie's One Month Sobriety Chip.
I feel Y/N squeeze me, pulling me from my phone. She has her jaw clenched, and I notice she does that when she is holding in a question or a concern.
"What's up?" I put my phone in my pocket and focus my attention on Y/N. "How often do you and Robbie talk?" She asks in a calming tone. We've talked about Robbie still being in my life, but I guess we never did talk about how much he's still in my life. Does that make sense?
"Once or twice a week?" I think about it. "But It's mainly check-up texts on one another. Does that bother you?"
Y/N takes a moment to think about her following words. Which is something I've come to respect about her. She never wants to be rash or rude. Although sometimes she gets trapped in her own mind.
I grab her by her hands and lead her into her bedroom. I bring her to her bed and playfully push her onto it, with me following suit and sitting down next to her. I hope she doesn't think I am cheating or would cheat on her.
"Talk to me, Y/N/N." I poke her forehead. "What's going on up there?" She gives to a small laugh and grabs my hands. "Is he really okay with us?" That wasn't the question I was expecting.
I nod at her. "Of course. He's made it very clear multiple times. Y/N, as long as I'm happy, he's happy. And trust me." I break free of her and put my hands onto her shoulders. "I'm happy. I'm grounded. I'm safe. I'm loved. I'm happy." I look into her eyes, and there isn't a hint of sadness. "Than I am too." She leans forward and places a kiss on my lips that just means more.
When we break apart, I let my hands drop from her and grab my phone. I hold it up to her, causing her to look at me, confused. "You can look if you want."
That look of confusion I got was even worse than the one before. "Liz." She grabs my phone and sets it on her desk beside her bed. "I trust you. I trust your words. I don't need to look through your phone to prove that. All I need is you. Seriously Lizard. Just you. Got it?" I nod my head and let the smile I have hurt my cheeks. "I got it, my Coffee Girl." Y/N grabs my phone and hands it to me. "Text him back. Tell him you're proud of him, and you'll be there for him. And if you want to let him know that I'm there for him too, then that's fine. But no pressure or anything, my love."
I can get over how perfect my Y/N is. Who does this kind of thing for their partners ex? I smile and do what Y/N tells me to. In addition to that, I decide to call MK. I put her on speaker so Y/N and I could both ask questions. It warms my heart how comfortable my sisters are with Y/N. I know MK is closer to her, and I had suspicions for a while, but after this week with Y/N, it all went away. I'll never tell Y/N that, though.
The call went just how I suspected. MK wants us to have a high-end dinner at 7. So that means we have to wear something nice and fancy. Y/N visibly gets concerned when she realizes that as well. I give her a look, but she ignores it. But I know the reason.
Once I'm off the phone, Y/N immediately gets up and starts searching her closet. I instantly follow her into her closet and turn her around, so she's facing me.
"Stop." "But-" "No buts. Step out of the closet." She gives me a cheeky smile making me roll my eyes. "Come on." I stick my hand out to her, and she grabs on. I pull her into the living room, making sure to grab a tote placing our wallets, phones, and whatever else for tonight in it.
"Where are you going?"
"We are going to my place!" I give her a cheery smile while placing her Dodgers hat on her. I admire her and give her a quick peck before she asks, "What for?"
"You were about to spend countless time in that closet going over everything you own. I know what we can wear tonight. But it's at my place, so we're going there. Plus, it'll be good to be there, and who knows, maybe we can stay there tonight."
Y/N POV
Liz gives me a wink and another quick kiss on the lips. "Now come on. Get your shoes on, and let's go." Liz turns her back to me to put on her pair of chacos while I slip on a pair of my vans. Once Liz is done, I scoop her up and spin her around, listing to her squeal and yelling at me to put her down.
Once her feet hit the floor, she tries her best to look upset, but she only ends up looking cuter, earning a shower of kisses from me, causing us both to laugh.
Before I know it, Liz has my keys in her hand as we walk out of my apartment building hand in hand.
_
It hit me while we were on the road that I had never been in a car with just Liz. Like no one else with us. This was also the first time Liz or I had driven each other around.
She's very safe behind the wheel, but I see why she usually has drivers. NY can be hectic, and that's why she prefers LA. Speaking of that, when is she going back?
I quickly get that thought out of my head and keep a hold of Liz's right hand whenever it's not on the wheel. I rub my thumb along her knuckles and catch myself staring at her side profile. She's so beautiful, and I can't believe I get to call her mine.
But the world still doesn't know...
Ugh, why do these thoughts keep invading my head today?
"Y/N." I lift my eyes to Liz's before she shifts them back to the road. Apparently, I was just caught staring at her neck. "You okay?" She asks with a smile. I nod and kiss her hand. "Just thinking."
"About?"
I don't want to bring it up, but I guess I should.
Just as I'm about to open my mouth, Liz curses and yanks her hand out of my own, grabbing hold of the wheel, shifting it quickly to the left, and slamming on the brakes, causing me to make that "hgghhh" noise.
I didn't have time to register what had happened before Liz was out of the car and running towards a kid that had fallen onto the road.
Once I got out of the car, Liz already had the kid sitting on the curb. I got a good look. I can see that it was a young boy, maybe six or so. He was holding onto Liz's side crying. I was about to rush over, but the number of people yelling and honking at me to get my car "out of the fucking way" was too much to ignore. Luckily I recognized we were near Liz's building, about two blocks down. Liz looked up and nodded to me that I could go. She mouthed a quick "I love you," warming my heart and making me do the same.
_
After I parked the car at Liz's building with help from Mr. Madison, I made my way back to Liz. By the time I made it, the boy was standing next to another woman talking to Liz. I assume this is the boys mother, but I have no clue. I'm just going to guess it's his mother.
The closer I got, the more I could see Liz peering her eyes. She was looking for me. I didn't quite get why until I saw her fidgeting with her rings and fingers. I quickened my short walk and made it to Liz's side before she knew it. Liz grabbed onto one of my hands and gave it a big squeeze.
The little boy seemed frightened by my sudden appearance causing him to grab hold of his mom's legs. My heart broke at that sight. Liz saw this while the mother was completely oblivious. Or maybe she was used to it?
Liz made sure to position herself in front of me while maintaining eye contact with the mom. As the conversation between the two grown-ups was coming to an end, I watched as Liz shined the boy a smile. The boys face instantly lit up before he looked away. I went to move, but Liz stopped me as she crouched in front of the boy.
"Jack, can you look at me?" Liz quietly asked the boy, who I can guess is named Jack. Jack looked up to his mom, who nodded at her son. He turns his gaze to Liz. "Are you feeling better?" The boy shook his head yes while looking away from her. It was then that I noticed that this kid did take a nasty spill. He has a scrap up one of his arms and on his knee. They aren't bleeding at the moment, but I know they probably sting hence why he was bawling earlier. "Now, I know you got scared earlier, but that doesn't mean you should just run away. Okay?" Liz keeps her voice and tone calm and gentle as she talks to Jack. "Jack?" The boy lets go of his mother's leg and hugs Liz. Something the mother and Liz weren't expecting but being the perfect person she is, my Lizard allows the hug to happen.
"I promise I won't run away again," Jack says as Liz pulls him out of the hug. "Thank you, Jack." The boys mother quickly scoops him up and places him on her hips. Liz gets up from her crouched stance and gets in front of me once again. I try to listen to the goodbye between Liz and the boys mother, but Jack is looking at me like he's studying me. I'm not sure what to do in this moment. Clearly, there's something going on behind the scenes with this kid, and I don't want to do or say anything that will be wrong. But something must've gone right because as Jack and his mom start walking away, I get a little wave from Jack. I go
to wave back, but Jack has already looked away.
Liz POV
I watch the smile on Y/N's grow as Jack gives her a wave. She raises her hand up to wave, but Jack got bored of her and looks away, making me laugh.
"What?" Y/N looks at me, confused. I shake my head. "Nothing. You're just cute." "Pretty sure that's you." I feel Y/N's arms wrap around me and pull me into a quick hug. "You were amazing." I give Y/N a look. "With the boy. You were amazing." I don't exactly know what to say. "You okay?" Y/N now looks at me with concern.
I nod. Because yes, I am okay. I mean, I was scared that I did hit that kid, but the relief that came over me when I saw how far he was from Y/N's car was astronomical. Before I thought about what to do, my mind took over. I quickly scanned over Jacks body and assessed what was hurt. I knew he was going to cry no matter what I did, so I took him over to the curb as quickly as I could. We couldn't just hang out in the middle of the road. Thankfully he latched onto me. Maybe it was because he thought I was safe, or perhaps he just needed to hold something or someone.
Giving Y/N that nod to tell her to move the car was the scariest part of the whole thing. I didn't want her to leave, but I knew she had to. I also didn't know who this boy was or where his parents were. And selfishly, I was worried about myself. I didn't want anyone to recognize me and for pictures to be taken of this moment.
So eventually, when a worried woman came around the corner calling for her son, I felt better.
I nod to Y/N and pull her into a kiss. "Shall we get going?" I ask as I feel her lips form a smile. "Lead the way."
The walk to my place was quiet, and I think Y/N knew I just needed to destress because the whole walk, she let me play with her hands and fingers as she held me close. Every once in a while, I'd feel a quick peck on the top of my hat. Every time it happened, I'd smile and let a quiet giggle slip out. I didn't even care that we were in public.
Speaking of which, that's a conversation for another time.
_
As I close the door to my apartment, I hear Y/N let out a "wow." She turns to me, embarrassed knowing I heard, but I walk up next to her and rub her back. "It's okay to let an inside thought out." I tease her earning an eye roll. "I'm just saying I forgot how beautiful your place is. It's perfect." Y/N smiles at me, and the look in her eyes is pure. She loves this place, and so do I. "Come on." I smack her ass and set my hat and tote down on the kitchen counter before pulling her into the bedroom.
"I thought we were here for clothes, not this." My mouth drops a bit at Y/N's sassy tone. "Don't be naughty! We are here for clothes! That, however." I point to her and the bed that she is sitting on. "Is for later. Now stay there!" I watch Y/N blush as I walk into my closet, which I haven't seen in a month.
After a few minutes of searching and going through every possible fit for Y/N and I, I believe I have found something suitable. But just to be sure. "Dress or suit?" I yell out from the closet. I get no response. So I ask the question one more time, once again earning silence.
"Y/N!" I walk out of the closet, and my girlfriend is gone. I then try my best to hunt for her. She's not in the living room, kitchen, guest room, or either bathroom. There's only one other place.
I open the door at the top of the steps, and it's like the outside world stops existing. I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful sight. I'm watching the woman I love talking to my plants. It's adorable, and damn I'm so happy I asked Scarlett to come by and take of my garden. She's so unique and tender with my plants. It's probably because last year, when she was over, I scared her half to death when she started picking my fruits too early. How and why? I don't know.
I continue watching Y/N. I don't want to disturb her because she looks so happy. She says she has a grey thumb, but I know I will change that.
"It's rude to stare. You, of all people, know that." Y/N turns to me with a wide-ass smile on her. "How'd you know?" Y/N walks to me, extending her arm to pull me up. "I heard you coming up." I place her lips on top of mine. "So, were you just checking on the garden?" I ask with kid-like glee. Y/N wraps her arm around my waist, turning me around so we both face my garden. "I remember that this jungle was up here and you hadn't asked me once to go and check on it, so I was worried that it'd all be dead, but it's thriving more than ever! How?" Y/N turns to me. "I have friends Y/N! But I never asked because you told me they'd die under your care. So that kinda warns me off!" She opens her mouth to argue, but she knows I'm right. "I can learn!" Her saying that makes me happier than she realizes. "I know you will, my Coffee Girl!" I pull her into a long passionate kiss.
"So, did your friend leave this?" Y/N holds up a Black Widow action figure. I grumble at seeing it. "Yes, my friend's kid left it." "Is the friend who I think it is?" Y/N shyly asks. I know Y/N loves me, but there is something that lights a fire in me whenever we've seen Scarlett on screen. And I know Y/N once commented about Natasha Romanoff, but I can't help it. "Yes, it is." I pull away from Y/N, wanting to end this conversation as soon as possible, but Y/N catches my wrist. "Lizard, my love, you know I have eyes for you!" I sigh. "I know. I know. I'm trying." I kiss her cheek before running up to the plant I was talking to the first time she came here.
"Did you name her yet!?" Y/N asks excitedly. "Umm, yes, I did." I'd forgotten the name until just this moment, but yes, I did name it. I named it that day she was last here. "Do you want to guess?" "Planty?" Y/N asks in all seriousness. "Nope." I reply, popping the P. "Leigh?" I smile at the thought that she thought I named a plant after one of my characters. "Nu-uh. Last guess." "Murray?" I shake my head, confused at that last guess. "Noah," I reply. "I think it's a cute name for a boy or girl, so why not give it to a plant." Y/N's face lit up hearing me. "I agree. It's beautiful." Y/N then reaches her hand out to Noah and shakes its leaves. "Nice to meet you, Noah." I laugh and look over at my Coffee Girl, realizing how goofy she is and how lucky I am.
_
Y/N POV
"Are you sure this about this?" I ask Liz for probably the millionth time since exiting the car. I know she's getting annoyed, but she looks back at me, smiles, and reassures me that I look flawless as we leave the elevator onto the restaurant floor. She's fast walking because we may have had a bit of a hiccup getting her, and by hiccup, I mean Liz and I couldn't keep our hands off each other once we both saw each other in our first.
(Y/N's fit)
(Liz's fit)
But anyways, it's that kind of fancy tonight. And the restaurant is at the top of a New York skyscraper. What is my life?
I look over Liz as we get closer to the opening of the restaurant, and she takes my breath away again. She must've felt my gaze on her because the next thing I know, I'm getting scolded as she hooks her arm around me and pulls me to a table with an already waiting MK.
"Nice of you two to make it!" MK stands up from the table and sprints to me first. "Y/N!" I can practically feel Liz burning a hole into MK. I politely hug MK back before she moves on to her sister. Liz lets MK wrap her up into a tight squeeze as MK gushes about how much she's missed her. "Okay, let's sit!"
We're sitting at a typical-sized square table. MK is in the middle with Liz and I across from one another. I notice that all the seats have water waiting for them, including the fourth unoccupied seat. Weird.
"So tell me everything! What have you two been up to? How was Y/N's mom, and what is up with your guys' look tonight? Black and White? Bride and Groom?!" Liz chokes on her water at the sound of that. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It has to be good, right? Meanwhile, MK is nothing but smiles as she looks between the two of us.
"Babe, you wanna take this one?" I wink over to Liz as MK gags at the sound of "babe."
"This is going to be a long dinner, isn't it, Mary-Kate?" Liz bluntly asks her older sister. MK gives a teasing smile and grabs Liz's hand "what are sisters for!"
Liz POV
We're now halfway through our appetizer, and everything is going smoothly. The waiter just left with our orders. MK and I have been hitting it off while catching up. Y/N has been keeping it light and fun. We have also brought up Y/N's mom, and MK was delighted at how much she loved New York City and me. However, that led to this: "So when is Y/N meeting Mom and Dad?"
I physically watched Y/N fix all her attention on me. "Soon," I replied. "I've already texted mom about Y/N, so she knows-" "But not Dad?" I see Y/N shift in her seat as she goes to stop my sister.
"MK-"
"No, it's alright." I hold out my left hand to Y/N. "Dad will find out when I feel comfortable." I calmly let MK know. But I can feel my adrenaline spike. She nods at me, but we both know what might happen when Y/N and my Dad meet. I hope it doesn't. I close my eyes briefly to try and ca-
"What about the world?" "What?" I look at my sister, confused. "When will the world find out about this one?" She points her thumb at Y/N like she can't speak for herself. "I mean, everyone thinks you and Robbie are still together. Don't you think that's a little unfair?"
I glance over to Y/N, who looks just as shocked as I feel. "Where is this coming from?"
"It's not coming from anywhere, Lizzie. I'm just saying tha-"
"That what?! That everyone should know my fucking business all the time?"
I'm getting louder, and I don't mean to. I can feel the lid about to pop off.
"Liz, I-" I once again stop my Y/N. "You hated everyone knowing all your shit all the time. Why would you want that for me?" I spit back to MK, who is surprisingly being calm about this. Or maybe she's doing it for Y/N.
"Lizzie. I understand that, and I'm sorry. You know I don't want the media in your life like that. I just think." She looks from me to Y/N and back to me. "I just think that it's kind of unfair for Y/N to be... hidden? I don't know if that is the right word or not."
What is she talking about? Y/N isn't being hidden from the world. She's just-
"MK." Y/N stops my sister, who turns and looks at my girlfriend. "I appreciate you for always looking out for me. For us. Liz and I. But her and I have somewhat talked about this. Think about it like this." Y/N leans forward in her seat to be closer to the table. "Does the world know about me? No, they just assume. Now, does the world know that Liz is bisexual? Once again, people assume." Y/N takes a pause. "Now would I love to be out and have people know that I'm dating THE Elizabeth Olsen and that she is my girlfriend, yeah to a certain extent, but the bottom line is, is that this is all new for Liz. I'd wait a thousand lifetimes until she was ready to let people know about her, Robbie, us, whatever" I watch Y/N smile as she says that, but she doesn't look at me; instead, she looks down and at her lap almost as if that realization hurts her...
"Plus." Y/N looks up to MK. "She's there for Robbie right now. And I am too. We'd just hate for the news of their separation to happen for him at a time like this. I mean, imagine-"
"The media would tear him apart," MK says as she gets it. Y/N nods and gives her a short smile before darting my eyes to me and then away.
"Fuck. I'm sorry, Lizzie. I wasn't trying to worry you or stress you out or anything. You too, Y/N." My sister looks between the two of us, and we know she means it. She has this twinkle in her eyes right now that she only gets when she's either really drunk or sincere. Wait, maybe that's both at the same time?
The tension has simmered down a bit by the time the waiter comes around and tops our waters and wine off, allowing Y/N to excuse herself.
Y/N POV
I'm happy. I'm happy. Don't cry. Don't cry.
I keep repeating this inside of my head the whole trek to the granite-coated bathroom.
It's so stupid. I don't know why I'm letting myself get so worked up about this. Of course, Liz wants to share me with the world someday. No, this isn't just a phase. She made that clear earlier today, so why am I being an idiot about it now? I said what I said at the table, so why do I feel like that is a lie? Why does my brain do this to me?
It's not too long until I'm standing in the middle of a stall with my head resting on my arm, holding in my tears.
"Y/N?" I lift my head. I didn't even hear the door open up. "Y/N? Please tell me you're here." I stand up straight and wipe whatever water I had surrounding my eyes away before taking a deep breath in and unlocking the stall door.
"Y/N?" Liz appears in front of me, and her smile quickly shrinks when she sees my face. I guess I didn't do a good job at hiding my emotions. "What's wrong?" Liz cups her hands around my face as she pushes us back into the stall.
I bite my lip and look into the worried green eyes of my Liz. "I'm sorry." Liz shakes her head, confused at me. "Sorry, what are you sorry for?" I watch her eyes slowly begin to scan my body, and I didn't know why until I remembered what had happened with Robbie. "For leaving." I clarify so she doesn't have to look for cuts or anything.
"I just thought you really had to pee, but minutes upon minutes went by, and we got a little worried." Liz chuckles to try and lighten the mood.
Minutes? I swore I just got here.
"I'm sorry." Liz grabs hold of my face, so I have to look directly at her. "Stop apologizing and tell me what's going on, my Coffee Girl."
Where do I start?
"Everything I said at the dinner table, I believe. It's just..." I take a deep breath in because I need it, and I'm still holding my tears. "I think what MK said got to me a little. Because I'd be lying if I said that I don't feel hidden." Liz is intently listening, and her eyes tell me what's going through her head. She blames herself.
"But Liz, listen to me. I would wait a thousand lifetimes. Hell, I'd wait a thousand of a thousand lifetimes because I'd be with you. At the end of the day, it's you and I. You got that? I love you. And I won't stop." I chuckle a little bit, making Liz look at me. "What's funny?" She quietly whispers to me.
"I think that's another reason why I needed air or to calm down or to do whatever the hell I'm doing in here." I look around the stall as I say that. "It made me realize how much I do love you." I smile at Liz, who looks like she is about to break. "Does that scare you?" I wrap my arms around her and pull her close to me, kissing the top of her head before moving out of the big, so I'm face to face with her.
"Not at all." Liz crashes her body onto mine to avoid the tears slipping out because we both know that the last thing we want to do is look like a mess when we return to the table, whenever that is.
MK POV
Okay so they've been gone for like fifteen minutes. So either they both fucked off and left me with the bill or Liz couldn't control herself and is having her way with Y/N.
Could you blame her?
Sorry is that inappropriate?
Anyways the waiter is finally placing with our meals and the girls have yet to be seen. I swear if they left.
I'm about to say screw it and dig in when I notice the fourth meal across from me. I know Liz whispered something to the waiter. Did this bitch really order a second meal? This place ain't cheap.
I'm so caught up that I almost don't notice a short haired blonde walking up to my table.
"Seat taken?"
Liz POV
I'm not quite sure what I was expecting to happen when Y/N opened up her bathroom stall but this conversation wasn't one of them. Hearing what she had to say hurt but I completely get it.
Not only is it hard to date a celebrity but it's hard to date one that isn't out and is technically still in a relationship with someone else. It's tricky and hard but hearing her say all the things she said just made one thing clear.
I love this woman with all my heart, and I'll do my hardest to let her know that. She's my rock. My supporter. She's my soulmate.
Which is going to make this next part a little fun.
Before we step out of the bathroom door Y/N and I give ourselves a look over. We definitely don't look the same as when we entered but we look close enough. As long as we don't have make up running down our face and spilled wine on our outfits I think we're okay.
"Okay so." I take a look at my phone to double check the time. Yep. She's here. "Liz what-"
"When we get back to our table there's going to be an additional person there. I called someone when you got dressed earlier and decided to surprise you. This was before how the last twenty minutes have gone but honestly you might need this right. And watching you will make me feel loads better. Just don't be nervous."
"You do realize that makes me even more nervous right?"
I give Y/N a cheeky smile before pulling her into a kiss. A kiss that starts of innocent before my lips leave hers and trail down to her neck. "Liz." Y/N moans out as I start sucking on the skin of her collarbone. "What are you doing?" That's the question I was waiting for. I stop and give Y/N a devious smile.
Y/N POV
"Just making sure she knows what's mine."
I went to pull my shirt closed but Liz slapped my hands away and opened it back up. "Let her see."
What the hell did Liz mean by that. Who is this other person? The fast walk back to the table was filled with questions like these and with the memories of the conversation prior forgotten.
As we got closer I could see MK talking to short haired blonde but that's all I could see the back of this blondes head.
It wasn't until I sat Liz down at her seat and moved to my own that I saw who it was.
"Are you going to introduce yourself?" The raspy blonde spoke to me. She spoke to me!
"Oh uh Y/N." I extended my hand out and try my best to keep my nerves inside.
"Scarlett." The Black Widow herself shook my hand.
I darted my eyes to Liz who just so happens to be in the middle of a conversation with MK.
Once Scarlett and I got done with our pleasantries I made sure Liz had her attention on me when I mouthed the words "you're dead." To which only got an eye roll and a heart she formed with her hands making sure no one saw.
"So Y/N." Oh God Scarlett's talking to me again. "Liz says you're watching the Marvel movies for the first time." I nod. "That's correct."
"So I was wondering if you had a favorite character yet? And don't say Wanda because I'd know you'd lying." Scarlett smirks at me while I look from her to Liz and back.
I decided to listen to my girlfriend Elizabeth Olsen and not have a frozen breakfast. I made buttery pancakes and scrambled eggs. Breakfast isn't my favorite meal, but it is Liz's. Well, I think every meal is Liz's favorite, if I'm being honest. But I persist! MK left halfway through, but I promised her we'd hang out soon. Anyways I still have extra batter, so if I'm feeling up for it, maybe I'll have more after I finish my two pancakes and scrambled eggs with hot sauce—the only way to do it.
I sit my butt down on my couch and place my plate and cup of tea on my coffee table. I have a dining room table, but it's a small and old plus; if it's just me here, why would I use it? Ya know?
I pull out my phone and decide to see what's going on in the world and if I should hate myself while I eat. One bite and in and fuck, why don't I make pancakes more! This is so good! Okay, new food fixation, I feel it! Tomorrow morning? Pancakes! This weekend? Pancakes! Hell yeah!
Through my pancake high and ignoring the latest news about how our planet is fucked I take a moment to think on where I'm at and how I feel. After my mom left, I felt like she and I were possibly on the most significant grounds of understanding one another in years. She told me she'd come by early afternoon so she could adequately see my space, and so we could hang out and do touristy things. It's her first time in New York, after all! So, I guess I got a couple of hours to kill.
I am also incredibly thankful and appreciative of MK for being here and supporting me. She didn't have to stay or do the things she did, but the fact that she did meant so much. As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words.
I then think about one more person. I shove another forkful of eggs into my mouth before I get up and grab the picture of Max and I. The picture MK saw last night. I return to the couch and place it next to my plate. I haven't opened it since that day. I don't know why I want it here with me. Maybe it's the guilt I feel? Perhaps it's because I'm ready? I don't know...
Before my mind can wander anymore, my phone lights up. It's Max. I guess she's on break, so time to trauma bond, am I right!? Just kidding, Max is just understanding.
Y/N: Hey, what's up?
Max: Not much. I just have a free minute, just wanted to check in with you!
Liz POV
After Max gave me a rundown of how Y/N and her mom have been over the last couple of years, I instantly feel my soul hurt for the person I love. I guess she never mentioned her mom for a reason. Max also told me the name, Davey. Max said that Y/N might bring up that name up if she talks about her mom but to not push her on it. I fill in the small blanks and figure out that it must be her dad or stepdad.
This makes me feel shitty about how I could think that MK would swoop in and take Y/N. It's stupid, I know. But Y/N is hot and my girlfriend. MK has this weird pull on her, and I don't want to lose her. So yeah, I may have texted some bitchy things, but now I'm apologizing.
I put my phone away, and as my nerves start working up my body as Max's phone tells me that we're here. This is it! I made it! A black SUV pulls out of a spot just in front of the building. Perfect! I must be wearing a stupid smile because when I look at Max, she has the same face, but she's looking at me while I was looking at an old NY building.
Max cocks an eyebrow. "You ready?" I rapidly nod and hop out of the car. Max does the same and comes to the back to open the truck for my bags and suitcases. I insisted on helping, but Max informs me that I'm the "Queen," so luggage was "beneath me." Silly, but who am I to argue? However, before Max piles everything onto or in front of her, I grab my black backpack and traveling tote.
I start to walk ahead and into the building before max yells out and stops me. "You don't know where you're going." Shit. She's right. I roll my eyes and gesture for her to lead the way instead. We get to the elevator. Max hits the button and informs me we have about 20 seconds till it arrives. Good to know. As we wait, I can see Max's mind working, and ding, she gets an idea as the doors open.
Max pulls out her phone and dials up Y/N as we step into the elevator. "Basically, I talk and talk, and then when we arrive in front of her-" Y/N answers. I like this plan. I like everything that's happening, actually! I continue to listen to Max. I only hear her side of the conversation before I get too nosy and grab her phone, putting the call on speaker. Max looks at me and mouthed the word sorry before I had her phone back.
Y/N: No, you don't need to come over. I'm alright.
Max: You eating?
Y: Pancakes and eggs. Dude, I never realized how I might have an addiction to pancakes.
Max laughs at Y/N's ridiculous comment while I smile because she made what I said.
The elevator comes to Y/N's floor, and we hop off.
M: Hey, so we still on for Avengers tonight?
Y: Yeah-
M: Is it cool if I bring someone?
Max looks at me with pure excitement.
Y: Uhh yeah, is it Flirty?
M: Someone better!
Y: Do I know them?
M: You might.
We arrive at Y/N's door, and Max motions for me to knock as she gets behind me. I give a rhythmic set of knocks before covering the peephole, so she can't see that it's us.
Y: Hold on, someones at my door.
It feels like my whole body is vibrating, waiting for her to unlock this door. Shit, I should've thought about what to say when she opens the door! "Long time no see?" No, that's lame. I could just go with the classic-
-the door swings open!
"Hey, Coffee Girl."
Y/N POV
I feel my phone slipping from my hand, but thankfully some piece of my brain realizes I need it, so I subconsciously hang up and put it in my back pocket, all while staring at the beautiful green-eyed woman smiling at me. Like giving me a genuine fucking goofy ass grin.
I take a wobbly step forward as my face begins to break. "You're supposed to be in London.." "Surprise," Liz responds in a hushed voice before we clash into one another. We let our arms wrap around one another as we let quiet tears and kisses land on our faces. I'm still in awe that she's here! My Liz is here! I get lost in the moment, and it feels like time is speeding by, but I guarantee we've just been hugging for two minutes tops. "What? How? When? I-" I stop when I see my favorite redhead pop out from behind my girl.
"You bitch!" I let go of Liz and playfully shove Max before pulling her into a hug. "Thank you!" I let Max go as I feel an arm snake its way around my body before feeling a plethora of kisses land on my cheek, causing me to squirm. I look over at the green-eyed beauty next to me. She looks straight at me and gives her classic scrunch face. God, I love her. I then see Liz's eyes dart their way down my body before her eyes go wide, staring at my chest.
I look down, expecting my boobs to be on display or something, but oops, I forgot what shirt I was wearing. I whip my head back up to see Liz's awe-struck face. "I can't believe you have this!" I crane my head towards Max because it was her idea that I get this. All I get back in return is her hiding a fit of laughter behind her hands. "Please never wear this out." Liz pleads to me in a voice that makes me want to wear it 24/7. "But it's my favorite shirt!" I whine. She and I both know that's not true. My favorite shirt is the one she gave me the night I slept over. She shakes her head, but I see the smirk coming from her.
"Show me your place, love," Liz demands, changing the conversation entirely. So not wasting any more time, I help Max with the bags and bring the girls into my place. Once inside, I immediately start to become self-conscious. It's nowhere near as big as Liz's place. Or as nice. It's a studio. I have no garden. I literally just got stuff that expresses me as a person more. Shit, what if Liz doesn't like anything. What if-
"I love it." You what now? I watch Lizard look around my place. She becomes infatuated with the books and journals clogging up my tv stand. She runs a hand along the exposed brick on the dividing wall between the two main rooms. I watch her peer her eyes into the bedroom before she turns back to face me. Wait, why is she pouting? She just said she loves it. What happened?
"What's wrong?" I ask, making my way over to the little witch. "No plants." I pull Liz into a hug to comfort her but also to hide my eyes as they roll. Of course. I feel a hand hit my arm, and I look down in shock. "Just because I don't see it doesn't mean you can just roll your eyes." How does she know? "How!" I pull her and cup her face to ask. "I'm an Avenger." She states in the most 'duh' way possible before grabbing my hand and pulling me into the kitchen.
I look back to the couch and just see Max, who has already made herself at home watching us. She puts a finger to her mouth and gags, but she knows this shit is cute. Plus, she has a special someone, too, so she can shh.
I focus my attention back on Liz as she begins searching through my kitchen cabinets and drawers. "Can I help, my love?" Liz doesn't respond. Instead, she pulls out her phone and begins typing away. I have zero idea what's happening. I try to take a peek at Liz's phone, but she pulls it away, and let me tell ya, earlier, she looked pouty. Now she looks angry.
"You're missing so many essential things, Y/N. It's killing me. You also have so many mismatched pots and pans." She holds up a blue pot I got from a neighbor, and she holds up a non-stick pan that I got from... I'm not sure where I got it from. I'm not even sure that's mine. Okay, maybe Liz has a point. "So?" Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say.
I watch Liz eye me up before she finishes typing on her phone and puts it away. She then looks around the kitchen and tilts her head at me. I hear a gasp come from the couch. "Y/N apologize right now. She's doing the thing." I quickly turn my head to Max and back to Liz, who is now wearing a smirk. "Okay, I'm sorry for having an unorganized kitchen. It's shameful. I know." My tone is more on the sarcastic side, but I think Liz knew I would never truly apologize. I mean, it's just knives, pots, and pans. "Good." She raises an eyebrow before she shifts back into her calm non-life-threatening self. I watched some videos about how Liz is obsessed with cooking and how she travels with her own kitchen wear, but I had no idea it was this bad.
"I ordered you all new things. And before you argue. It's more for me than you, and you know it." With that, she gives me a look. And it's just us. It's finally the two of us. Suddenly I feel a kiss fall onto my face before she gives me another one, followed by one more. I feel her push her body up against mine, and I love it. She keeps pushing, backing me up until I bump up against my kitchen counter. Liz wastes no time putting her hands on mine to stop me from moving. A tiny moan squeaks out of my lips as I feel her breath roll down my neck. I'm about to push her legs open with my own when I hear the most irradiating sound ever.
It's a cough from Max.
Why is she still here?
I feel Liz's breath against my neck, but this time it's because she is laughing and trying to hide her embarrassed face. We both forgot about her. I can't help but laugh and pull Liz into a hug. This moment is gone, and Liz's laugh is so contagious. "I'm going to excuse myself," Liz whispers to me before her red face escapes my grasp and makes her way to the bathroom, avoiding all eye contact with Max.
I turn to see my best friend gleaming at me. "Why didn't you just sneak out?" I whisper yell. "That was so hot." My face forms a look of shock and disgust. "Ew. Don't do that. That's my girlfriend, not the famous actress Elizabeth Olsen. Got it?" "Got it." Max nods, but she doesn't wipe that shit-eating grin she is wearing. "You ruined this moment," I state. "This moment wouldn't have happened without me." I groan in frustration because, once again, Max is right, and now I realize what a mess I'm in. My body missed Liz's touch a lot more than I realized.
I huff and shoot Max a face of pure anger before walking into my room just as Liz pops out of the bathroom. I take a look around, noticing my room isn't in perfect form. "Sorry." I simply state as I dig through my underwear drawer. "Don't apologize. Remember, I love your space. It's all you." She looks around, smiling before her eyes lock onto my own. The deeper I look into her eyes, the more I know she means it. I pull my gaze off her and pull out a red pair to change into. "Red, huh?" Liz notices. I feel my cheeks heat up. There's only one reason I'm changing my underwear right now, and Liz and I know it. She walks up to me and leans into my ear, and whispers. "Don't worry." Liz grabs my hand and brings it to her thigh. "I'm wearing your other red ones." She moves my hand up her leg as she begins attacking my ear. I'm not even in control of my mouth as quiet moans keep escaping and my inability to form words. My hands keeps moving up before she stops. I open my eyes to see her biting her lower lip before she kisses my nose and leaves my room in a blur.
I slowly turn towards another drawer to pull out a change of sweat shorts as well.
After a quick change, I come out to the living room to see Max and Liz finishing off the rest of the breakfast I had. They're in the middle of a conversation; well, it looks like Max is grilling Liz about MCU stuff, but Liz isn't budging. After another minute, Liz makes my presence known to Max, who quickly shuts up.
"So, what's the plan for today?" Max asks, looking at the two of us. This bitch.
"Oh, you're joining? I thought you were just Liz's chauffeur?" Liz cups a hand over her mouth as Max's jaw drops. "Fuck you." Max breathes out as she rolls her eyes and takes the dirty dishes into the kitchen. I shoot Liz a wink, letting her know we'll have our time together. I feel my phone buzz, and I pull it out. It's a text from Max.
"I'm third wheeling, aren't I?"
I have to suppress the laugh I want to let out so bad. "Who's that?" Liz pipes up. "My mom." I dodge Liz's eyes and turn to Max. "Max, could I speak to you in my room?" I turn to Liz. "Just one second." I see a wash-over worry crash onto Liz's face. Max walks into my room as I see Liz start to shimmy to get up, but I hold out a hand with my index finger raised. "One second, my love." I quickly load an 80's pop music station on my tv to drown out Max's and mine's talk.
Once Max and I are in my room, she starts. "I feel like I'm annoying you two!" I pull Max into a surprise hug. "Thank you so much for bringing her to me." Max, unsure of what to do, takes a second before wrapping her arms around me. "You're always annoying, by the way." Max shoves me out of our hug. "But I was thinking..." "What?" Max asks me in a teasing/annoyed tone. "My moms coming over soon, and I need to sit down and talk to Liz about everything. Plus, the first time she meets her, I think it'd be better if you weren't here." My voice goes extra soft at the tail end. Thankfully, Max is my best friend for a reason. "I get it." See what I mean. "But." Uh oh. "I want to watch Avengers tonight with Liz." "Okay.." "And I want her to let me talk to Chris Evans." I look at Max like she just grew three heads. "The first part deal. The second part... I'll work on it. Okay?" Max extends her hand. "Okay." We shake. "Now, this is weird. Get going." I push her shoulder as she leaves my room.
I hear her come up with an excuse to leave as I grab my 2019 journal. I must've gotten lost in thought because I didn't notice Liz turn off the tv. I didn't hear her footsteps walk up behind me. Hell, I didn't even feel her arms around my waist until she placed a gentle kiss on the back of my neck. "Coffee Girl?" Liz, let's just above a whisper. "Yeah?" I respond, staring straight ahead. "You okay?" I lower my head and turn to face my girlfriend. I look into her eyes once again. I think just today, I'm realizing how much comfort they provide me. How much strength I get from them when they shimmer that green color I love. Or how when I look into them, I see a future. I see Liz and I together. I see her laugh. I see our pain. I see the love that we share.
I smile and place a kiss on her forehead before saying the phrase no couple ever wants to hear.
"We need to talk."
Liz POV
Well, that's a phrase no couple ever wants to hear. "It's okay. I promise." Y/N whispers after cupping my face. She must've seen the look of horror and panic I let out. "Follow me." Y/N grabs onto my hand and pulls me to her bed. As much as I would love to continue what I started earlier, I don't think that's going to happen. At least for now.
"Put these on." Y/N points to a navy pair of sweats. "I'll be right back." Y/N walks into the living room, leaving me to change. After doing so, I turn my head next to me to see what she left on the bed. It's a journal. It says it's two years old, but I would've guessed more aged from the binding.
Y/N walks back into the room with a picture frame in one hand and another journal in the other. She smiles at me as she makes herself comfortable on her own bed. "Babe?" I look over to her as she makes grabby hands at me. I quickly take the hint and crawl up her bed before laying down next to her. She kisses the top of my head as I get pulled into a cuddle. "I can't believe you're here." I think Y/N let an inside thought slip out. I just squeeze my arm around her waist. "Believe it."
After a calm minute, Y/N breaks it up. "How long are you here till?"I look up at her and smile. "Till you get sick of me. I have nothing planned right now—no movies to shoot. No shows to make. I'm free." I watch as Y/N can't believe it. Instead of using words, she just pulls me closer. "What about LA and your LA house?" I think about my following words carefully. "Well, technically, it's Robbie's place right now. And I'll have to go back eventually but let's not worry about that. I'm here with you. We'll stay here as long as we need to. Okay?" Y/N nods and lifts my chin to plant soft kisses on my lips. "Okay." She unwraps herself from me so she can scoot herself up and grab the things she brought in with her. I move my body up until I sit straight so she can have my full attention.
"So I know Max told you some things. I put it together... I don't know exactly what she told you about my mom but-" "Whatever you feel comfortable telling me." I stop her so she can collect herself. Plus, it's true I want Y/N to be comfortable sharing everything with me. I don't want her to do it just because she feels like she has to. She squeezes my hand and gives me a soft smile before she grabs a journal off her desk and the one that's on the bed.
I watch Y/N's face change multiple times. She's struggling with her words. I see her eyebrows tighten as she is getting frustrated with herself. I rest my hand on her thigh, letting her know I'm here and it's okay. "Just trying to figure out how to start." I nod. "I know." She nods back to me.
She opens her mouth and starts. "My mom and I have always had a good relationship. She always loved and cared for me no matter what. Even when it was just her and I, she worked a lot which made those early years difficult because she became a workaholic trying to support her and myself." Y/N stops herself. "Sorry, I'm rambling." I burrow into her more. "It's okay. Just say what you want to say. In any order you want."
"My mom never dated, and I know it's because of my biological dad. She never said, but I know my mom better than she thinks. So one night, when she dropped me off with my grandparents, I knew something was up. I was 6, not an idiot." Y/N laughs before continuing. "Those types of nights kept happening until one day she took me out to lunch on a workday no less. That was when I knew this was a big deal. That's the day I met Davey. A man who deserved the title of father." Y/N brushes her hand over the cover of her 2019 journal, smiling. "The day I met him, he gave me a choice. He said you can either call me Davey or Dad but never David. I remember thinking that's a crazy way to start a conversation off with a 6-year old. But he knew. He knew he would do anything to protect my mom and I. He would love us and treat me as his own. He wanted me to be safe and to grow up knowing it wasn't just my mom and I anymore."
I don't think Y/N feels the tears coming down her cheeks. I raise a hand and start brushing them off her. She responded to my touch by laughing and kissing my palm. "Sorry. I didn't even know." I don't say anything. I just lean up and kiss her.
"I loved that man." Y/N clears her throat and pulls up the picture frame she initially brought with her. Inside the frame is a photo of Max and Y/N from a Halloween party. It looks to be years old. She unclasps the back of the frame and pulls the picture out.
The photo wasn't just of Max and Y/N. She unfolds it, and another person is revealed to be there as well as a second smaller picture. I almost don't recognize who the third person in the Halloween photo is until it hits me. It's Naomi. Y/N's ex. I didn't know they went this far back... Y/N grabs the two pictures in one hand and puts the piece of the frame onto the floor.
She takes a glance at the Halloween photo and places it on the floor as well. I still haven't seen the small picture. She's kept it facedown this entire time. She looks at me and grabs one of my hands. She takes the photo and gently places it in my hand before she lets go. "This is the last picture he and I took together. We took it from his old polaroid camera, and days later he..." Y/N begins to cry again. I go to reach out to her, but she stops me. "W-When you're done-e with the picture put it back in my hand." Y/N turns her head away, leaving me alone with the facedown photo.
Y/N POV
"How's it looking, kiddo?" I look up from the photo of the man giving me a big grin and two thumbs up and put on a fake smile for Davey. "I think it's time you got a haircut?" I sarcastically reply, earning a hearty laugh from the bald man before me.
I place the polaroid into his hand as I pop myself into the chair next to his hospital bed. As he brings the photo to his eyes, I can't bare to watch his reaction. I put my arms and head down onto his bed.
Every time I see him, he's looking weaker, frail, tired. You name it. That's why he's moved around so much before winding up here. Room 414.
Our monthly pictures have slowly started to become something grim as appose to joyful. We both know it. Davey hasn't said anything about the picture yet, and that's fine. I'm growing tired of pretending everything is a-okay.
My mind has wandered again as I hear the muffled beeps of the monitors and machines keeping my Dad alive. I close my eyes, wanting the beeping to stop. Not for him but for me. I've wante- "Kid?"
I slowly lift my head and put my hand on Davey's right arm. "Yeah?" He throws on a smile and taps my hand. "You weren't listening, were you?" I shake my head and make myself open my ears and watch him. Instead, he doesn't talk. He lets us sit here in silence. After a few good minutes, I reach over and flip on the tv, stopping once we get to the game show network. They're showing reruns of The Price is Right. It's better than a soap opera or a boring superhero movie, so this will do.
_
I can't remember if we're on the third or fourth one in a row, but it's when Davey breaks up the silence. "Moms coming later tonight?" "Yeah." "Where will you be?" "At the house." "Doing?" I roll my eyes. Even after everything, he still wants me to do my school work and write. "Essays, stories, and songs," I reply less than enthusiast. Davey turns to me, nudging my arm. "Exactly." I give him a soft nudge back. The last time I did that, it was too hard, and I left a bruise on his arm.
"Anything new?" He asks, pointing to my bag. "Some stuff, but I don't know." I shrug at him, but I know he won't let this go, so I grab my bag and pull out one of the journal he gifted me last year. I open it to the most section and slowly begin flipping through until I find something I want him to read.
April 26th, 2019
Don't Wanna Know (Don't Wanna Know - Bo Burnham)
How are you feeling? Do you like the show?
Are you tired of it? Never mind, I don't wanna know
Are you finding it boring? Too fast? Too slow?
I'm asking, but don't answer 'cause I don't wanna know
Do I have your attention? Yes or no?
I bet I'd guess the answer but I don't wanna know
Am I all in the background? Are you on your phone?
I'd ask you what you're watching but I don't wanna know
Is there anyone out there? Or am I all alone?
It wouldn't make a difference, still, I don't wanna know
I thought it'd be over by now but I got a while to go
I'd give away the ending but you don't wanna kn-
I watch Davey's eyes read and reread the short song over and over until he finally closes it and turns to me. "Are all your songs going to be about me?" His question isn't a joke. Him and I know the 'show' in the song is watching him die. I dart my eyes away from his own unable to answer.
I stare at the cold floor until he speaks up again. "It's just a bad wrap, kid." I turn to his kind eyes and warm smile. "That's all it is." He gives me back my journal before it's time for me to leave him. I make sure his tv remote and water are near him. I hug and kiss goodbye like I do every time. I make sure my exit has always been the same. I feel like if one thing changes, then my life would change.
I didn't even notice that he made the change that day.
He didn't keep the picture like he always did. Instead, he slipped the Polaroid into my journal. I didn't find it until I went to write that night.
The night he was gone.
Liz POV
I put the picture back into Y/N's hand. Without looking at it, she flips it over before turning to face me. "He got sick when I was in high school. But then he beat it. He was a real fighter.." Y/N picks up the gran next to her and begins putting the whole thing back together. Hiding the small picture and all.
"Around the first time he got sick, that's when the crack in my mom's and I's relationship started to form. My mom threw herself into making everything better. Or at least that's what she thought. That included working triple the amount and not caring for anyone's opinions but her own. She still loved Davey and me, but it's like I couldn't breathe around her anymore. I couldn't do anything. So once I knew Davey was better, I graduated, and I got the fuck out. I know it crushed my Dad, but I just couldn't do it. So you can only imagine how I felt when he took a turn for the worse while I was in college."
Y/N doesn't realize it, but she's been gripping the two journals in her hand with such force I'm afraid their about to tear apart. I gently lift my hand from her body and onto the journals causing her to panic before she sees what I'm doing. She lets her body relax and gives the journals to me.
"If it weren't for that man, you wouldn't be seeing these. He encouraged this." I take them and begin flipping through them. To say I'm stunned is an understatement. I never knew my Coffee Girl had all of this hiding from me. It's laced with short stories, poems, and songs. All original, as far as I can see.
She never mentioned she was a writer or a musician, maybe? I take a glance around the room as if she can read my mind she answers. "Closet." She shines a smile at me, and I respond by kissing her. "Thank you for sharing all of this with me. You didn't have to, but I'm proud that you did. I truly, truly appreciate this Y/N. I love you." I give her another kiss before pulling back, and she's crying. But this time, it's different.
"Babe?" I cup her face and bring it to me. I want to ask questions, but maybe it's just all the emotions working their way through her. So instead of disrupting her, I let her cry in my arms.
After a couple of minutes, she pulls away and gives me a kiss that causes a new wave to course through my body. "I'm so happy." Y/N eeks out. "I started crying because that was the first time we've said I love you in person. You saying it made me realize how much I love you too. I love you so fucking much, Liz. You have no idea. I'm so happy with you, and please, thank you for making me safe enough to tell you and show you, Davey." I listen to her words hit my ears. Shit. This is the first time we've said I love you in person. I open my mouth to speak up, but I'm cut off. "Davey would've loved you."
Y/N POV
"I would've loved him too." I'm smiling like an idiot right now. I know I am. This girl right here. This Lizard. She has my heart, and I have hers. I watch as her she has a finger on a page inside one of the journals.
"Which one is that?" I ask her once both of our eyes have dried a bit. She looks at me confused before she knows what I'm talking about it. She opens the journal and shows me.
It's a revitalization of an old poem I came up with in high school called All Eyes On Me.
"Are their parts missing?" Liz runs her finger along the words. I watch as she begins to quietly read it out loud before she confirms that, yep, words and phrases are exempt.
"Yeah. I wasn't happy with it." "I like it. Sounds like it could be updated." She says, looking at me with her best puppy dog eyes. I laugh and kiss her at her attempt. "Maybe another day." I grab my journals and place them on the floor before I pull Liz close to me. "My mom and I are good now, by the way. Yesterday was tough, but today will be better." "Today?" Liz ask me, and oops, I didn't tell her. "Yeah, my mom is still in town."
Liz, in an instant, is up and out of the bed. "You're just telling me now?!?" I get startled by Liz's actions and lift myself up. "Well, I was getting there! Plus, you weren't even supposed to be here!" I shoot back in a teasing way. "When is she coming over? Should I even be here? She doesn't know about us. Y/N!" Liz is starting to panic.
Don't get me wrong. I'm nervous as hell, but Liz is here now. I'm not kicking her out or hiding her. So today is the day my mother is going to meet my girlfriend, Elizabeth Chase Olsen.
I get up and pull Liz back into bed. I let her rest herself on top of me while I stroke her hair. I continuously tell her that everything is going to be fine. I tell her that my mom will love her and that if one thing goes wrong, I'll fix it. It took a couple of minutes, but my Lizard is back.
We look at each other and press our foreheads together, only to be interrupted by my phone. Liz grabs it for me, and her eyes go a bit wide, so I have a feeling I know who it is. "What's it say?" "She'll be here in twenty." Liz hands me my phone and charges into the living room to grab a new set of clothes.
Liz POV
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I can't believe I'm about to meet Y/N's mom. I want to throw up and hide. Oh God, what if her mom doesn't like me? I don't want to be the reason their relationship goes back to being on ice. What do I even wear?
"Y/N! What do I wear!" I yell out, letting my nerves get the best of me. "Hey, you don't have to yell." I turn to my side to see a smiling Y/N. Shit, how long has she been there? I look at her chest and roll my eyes. She is not wearing that shirt out!
After going through my luggage together and practically fighting Y/N on her t-shirt choices, we're finally both getting dressed in simple outfits.
We both decided that t-shirt and jeans would be appropriate for today. While I'm wearing this, Y/N is wearing a similar pair of jeans out instead of a simple black shirt, she opted for a baggy forest green t-shirt. I watch from the couch as Y/N is running in and out of the bathroom.
Y/N POV
Once I'm finally done freshening up, I walk into the living room to join Liz. Okay, fuck me. Liz is sitting on the couch, legs spread, feet firmly on the ground while she fiddles on her phone. Her beautiful hair covers her shoulders, and I want to do nothing more than to pounce on her at this moment.
However, she interrupts my impure thoughts but calling me beautiful and telling me how much she loves my shirt. "Thank you for changing," Liz says, kissing me on the couch. "You know I would've." I wink back at her. I let my hand slide down her side and give her hip a squeeze earning a playful yelp from Liz. "Y/N, we're not doing this right now." I go to whine but knocking from my front door stops me.
I get up and reach my arm out to help Liz up, but she shakes her no and runs into the bathroom. "Liz!" I go to chase after her, but the knocking doesn't stop. "Liz, get out here!" I yell out before opening the front door to my mom.
"Hi, Pumpkin." She greets me and pulls me into a hug which I more enjoy this time around. She walks into my place as I close the door behind her. As I turn back, I watch my mom almost stumble over a suitcase on the floor.
Shit.
"Going somewhere?" My mom looks at me with some concern.
Okay. My girlfriend is hiding in my bathroom—a girlfriend who is world famous. A girlfriend, my mom, has no idea even exists. Oh, God. How do I do this?
"No, it's-" The door to the bathroom closes, causing me and my mom to turn our eyes to my scared Liz.
"It's mine. I apologize. I should've moved it." Liz extends her hand out to my mom, who kindly accepts it. "Hi, I'm Elizabeth." "Hi, Elizabeth. I'm Y/N's mother, Y/M/N." Okay, so far, so good. I watch their hands drop, and Liz begins fiddling with her rings.
"Y/N, why didn't you tell me you had someone over?" Once again, Liz speaks for me. "Oh, don't blame Y/N. I showed up this morning unannounced to surprise her. I had no idea her mother was in town. I'm so sorry." Liz dips her shoulders down in an attempt to be friendly to my mom. I scoot myself closer to Liz, hoping to provide her some comfort.
"Oh well, it looks like Y/N got two surprise visits. How she's still standing, I have no idea." My mom, thankfully, is also being nice as she turns away from Liz and I and begins looking around my space with actual care this time. Liz and I are standing there watching my mom. I reach down and grab Liz's hand. Holding her hand calms her down, and I need her right now too.
"Would you like any water or tea?" I ask my mom, who cautiously examines the pictures I have around the room. "Tea?" I scoff. "It's new. Thank Liz." "Liz?" My mom turns back to me. "Elizabeth," I reply, pointing to Liz, who awkwardly waves at my mom. My mom gets an 'ahhh' face. "Your friend Elizabeth." I can feel Liz's eyes make their way to me.
"Actua-" "What kind of tea would you like, Y/M/N?" Liz asks once again, interrupting me while dropping my hand. "I'll take whatever black tea Y/N has, but you shouldn't do it, dear?" Liz protests. "I insist." Liz speeds into the kitchen as I watch my mother look at me before she starts making her way to the couch.
Not knowing what to do, I end up bringing my mom to my messy bedroom. "Y/N, you have guests here, and this is how you decide to live?" I'll take the scolding right now as I'm trying to find a way to distract my mom so I can talk to Liz. "Mom, you remember my journals?" My mom whips her head to me and softly grabs one from my desk. "You kept them?" "Of course." I hear Liz grumble something from the other room. Shit. "I'll be right back." I leave my mom alone to take a trip down memory lane.
Liz POV
She hates me.
Now here I am, getting her stupid black tea as an attempt to make her warm up to me. Y/N's friend. Whatever, Y/N's not telling her today.
As I'm grabbing her mom a plate and spoon. I let out a frustrated sigh. "Fuck." I grumble under my breath. I don't even know how her mom takes her tea. Fuck. I'm so stupid. I shouldn't even be here. My suitcase almost tripped and killed her. Of course, the week I decide to-
Suddenly a pair of arms wrap around me, startling me. Y/N can't be doing this. Her mom could see. I start to push away Y/N's arms which causes her to hold me tighter. "It's okay. It's me. I'm here. Liz. Please." She's whispering. She doesn't want her mom to know that her own girlfriend, sorry, friend is a mess. A mess that she has to take care of.
"Y/N, get off me!" I finally grip her hands and push them away from me. I hear Y/N take a step back, and her breathing change. "Liz.." "Stop Y/N. I'm your friend right now, and right now, I'm getting your mom her tea." Y/N takes a step up next to me and bends down, so I see her face. "Liz, look at me." She calmly asks me, but I don't budge. "Liz." She reaches her hand out to me. I don't take it. I take a step away from her she takes my original place, still looking at me.
"Baby, talk to me." Y/N is starting to beg. "She hates me." I look to Y/N's eyes. They're filled with confusion and hurt. Care and love. "She doesn't hate you, Liz. She just doesn't know you." "She thinks I'm your friend." "Because I didn't get the chance to tell her who you are and what you mean to me." "She-" "Liz. Who cares what she thinks." "I do-"
"Elizabeth. Listen to me." I shut up at the sound of my full first name. Y/N takes a step closer to me so our faces our inches apart and takes my hands into her own. "My mother does not hate you. My mother has no idea who you are. I know who you are. I do not hate you. Liz. You're my world. You're my future. Trust me. No matter what my mom says or does, that will never change. We will never change because I love you with my whole heart." Y/N takes my left hand and places it over her heart. "Now, Liz, we are going to give my mom her stupid tea, and we are going to tell her together. And in case you need a reminder." Y/N drops my hands and pulls me into a kiss. It's sensual and tender. It's a kiss that makes me smile against her lips. A kiss that reminds me, yes. I'm her girlfriend. Yes, I want a future with her, and yes, who cares what her mom has to say? We both pull out and catch our breaths.
Y/N POV
"Do you need another reminder?" Liz opens her eyes and looks up at me before nodding her head. I give her another significantly shorter kiss, and when we break from that one, Liz has her nose scrunched up and a smile on her face. "I love you." She whispers to me, causing the wings on my heart to flap. "I love you too," I whisper back. After a beat of comfortable silence, Liz asks me how my mom likes her tea, and honestly, I have zero idea. So Liz decides to grab everything imaginable that could go into a tea to bring to her mom.
Liz and I both stop when we see my mom waiting in the middle of the couch. She's on her phone. Probably answering work emails or on Facebook. We slowly continue placing everything in front of her. "Elizabeth?" My moms ask, not looking up from her phone. "Could you sit next to me, dear?" Liz does as asked, leaving me standing in the middle of the room.
"Elizabeth." My mom finally looks up from her phone and turns towards Liz. "Are you happy?"
Liz POV
The question threw me off, so since I can't formulate words, I just nod my head. "Y/N makes me the happiest person I've ever been." There are the words!
Y/N's mother gently takes my hands into her own. "How long have you two been dating?" I look to Y/N before I firmly answer. "Less than a month." Is that how long it's been? "But it feels like I've known Y/N for way longer. Like my whole life. She treats me with such care, and love, and how she makes me feel and understands me is something I've never had with anyone else." I conclude my ramble that I didn't mean to start.
"And you love her?" I take my eyes away from the woman before me to look at my Coffee Girl. "I do." I look back to Y/N's mother. "I do love her. But before-" A raised hand stops me. "You don't need to justify your love. Y/N here knows that. Her Dad told me he loved me on our second date."
I look to Y/N, who understands my face. "My mom means Davey. And yeah, it's true." I watch from my peripheral vision Y/N's mom looked at her in shock. "Yes, mom, Liz knows about Davey."
Suddenly I'm being pulled into a hug as her mom begins whispering into my ear. When we pull out of the hug, I blink my eyes a few times before looking at Y/N.
I come to the conclusion that it may not be today or tomorrow. Not next month or the month after, but whenever I do get married, it will be to her.
Y/N POV
I don't know what my mom said to Liz, but her green eyes are shining with a new twinkle in them.
My mom let go of my girlfriend's hand, and I let Liz's body crash into mine. It only lasts a few seconds before my mother pipes up. "I don't know about you two, but I'm starving. So shall we get this show on the road?" Liz laughs into my neck before I peel her away. "Yes, mom, I'm sure Liz can eat." I look to Liz, who looks offended before I tilt my head. "I mean... I could." She shrugs and begins fixing her hair while I grab everything I need for today.
_
It only took a few moments, but we're finally about to walk out the door when Liz stops me. My mom is already out into the hall when I turn back to watch Liz. She opens up her suitcase and grabs two pairs of sunglasses and two LA Dodgers hats. I smile. She thought to bring one for me. Liz sees my smile as hers grows bigger.
I know she worries about how I'll feel hiding in public with her, but I don't mind. I mean, I do, but I understand. Liz isn't ready, and everyone still thinks she's with Robbie, and there have only been speculation that she's anything more than straight. So I'll put on the sunglasses and hat until she's ready, which I easily slip on.
Once we walk out, lock up and join my mom waiting for the elevator. She looks at us like we've grown 8 heads. "The sunglasses I get but the Dodgers?" I almost laughed at how confused her question sounded. "It's my home team," Liz replies with a childlike joy in her voice. My mom simply nods at that. I give Liz an encouraging smile as I make my hand hold hers.
The doors to lift open, making us pile in. As we enjoy the ride down, my mom turns to Liz and me. "Y/N, I really am happy that you have found someone. Someone right for you." "Thanks, mom." She smiles at me and turns to - "And Ms. Olsen. I look forward to getting to know you more." "Me too." Liz shines in her answer while my jaw drops. I look down at my girlfriend as it takes a few seconds to register, but once the words hit Liz's ears, my hands gets squeezed by Liz. "Did she just..?"
My mom, seemingly content with what she just said, walks out the doors as soon as they open, leaving Liz and I stunned.
