>Two boxes arrive at Dani’s place, one long and heavy and the other small, square, and a hell of a lot lighter. Both are wrapped in maroon paper and white and gold striped ribbon. The tag matches the ribbon and reads, “For my Babygirl. <3”. The larger box contains a nodachi, 57 inches of shining steel delicately patterned with characters for courage and luck, and skill, speed, and strength. The other box contains a pair of ruffled red garters with five pockets hanging from each side, every one filled with a throwing knife marked with a character for accuracy.
Dani decided to conform to tradition and wait till the sunlight of Christmas morning trickled into the loft to open the presents. She’s got a fair idea of what kind of gift the long and heavy one is, but the petite light one has her absolutely curious. Even that motivation doesn’t have her out of bed before noon, and there’s no complaint from any member in the household of the fact. She crawls out of bed and ambles downstairs to the packages which she had placed neatly beneath her miniature Christmas tree the night previous. The girl smiles a bit at the note, complete with the childhood nickname she’d never grow out of, and sits it nicely aside to not get demolished in the process of ripping up the paper. With as pristine as those boxes are wrapped, she almost feels bad about removing the ribbon, but then again she’ll never get to see what’s inside if she doesn’t ruin the nice paper and ribbon.
The girl tears away the ribbon first, tossing it on the table to be picked up later, and then demolishes the paper on the smaller box first. She pulls out the ruffled garter, mistaking it for something to hold up stockings for a moment. She furrows her brow, curious and interested to see if it is some sort of gag gift, but she then notices the pockets dangling and flips one open to pull out the small knife inside. Throwing knives, huh? She smirks, thumbing over the small engraved blade. They’re actually very pretty - completely brand new and smooth. No blood, or scratches. Freshly oiled and the insignia is perfectly placed. How satisfying. She’ll definitely have to play with those later, for sure, but for right now she has yet another gift to be opened still waiting her attention on the table. She neatly lays the garters aside and goes for the larger, rather hefty box. Her eyes go a bit wide as the wrapping paper is torn and the contents of the box revealed.
Sure, she’d expected some sort of blade, but not that sort of blade.
Dani hurriedly tears open the packaging and draws the large, shining nodachi from its box. Her fingers graze over the characters - she doesn’t speak Japanese but she understands what they mean, she’s seen those kanji enough. She stifles a squeal, bouncing on the balls of her feet excitedly.
“Bro,” she half hisses, half screeches, “Bro you gotta get up and see this!”
