An enormous, brightly wrapped present sat ominously inside the mall. A card dangled from a glittery ribbon on top, its message written in the Joker’s unmistakable scrawl.
"Merry Christmas, Batsy! Hope you have a BLAST this holiday season! xoxo"
Batman cautiously approached the gift. His scanners detected no immediate signs of explosives, but with the Joker, nothing was ever that simple. He took out a blade and carefully sliced open the box.
The lid fell away to reveal an unexpected sight.
Sitting awkwardly inside the box was Clark Kent, tied up in festive ribbons and wrapped in blinking Christmas lights.
“Clark?” Batman said incredulously. “Why are you here?”
Clark gave him an apologetic smile. “Uh… surprise? I volunteered to be a hostage.”
Batman stared at him. “You volunteered?”
“Well,” Clark began, shifting uncomfortably in the cramped box, “the Joker was planning to send you a bomb, and I figured it’d be safer if I just… swallowed it.”
Batman blinked, his glare intensifying. “You swallowed the evidence?”
Clark grimaced, his face turning faintly red. “I thought I’d contain the explosion, but now it’s… uh…giving me really bad indigestion.” He winced as if to emphasize his point.
Batman sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Go home, Clark.”
Clark looked up at him with puppy-dog eyes. “Can I stay at your house tonight? Just until the bomb… you know… passes?”
For a moment, Batman said nothing, just glaring down at him. Finally, with a weary sigh, he muttered, “Fine. But only to ensure the bomb isn’t dangerous to your health.”
Clark beamed. “Thanks, Bruce. Merry Christmas!”
I did 😁
