I’m watching the Roxton/Daemon fight with a friend who is medieval war lad, we watch to talk about armour and combat and whatnot.

We’re having a great time talking about how Roxton is actually pulling some iconic medieval battle moves. And he messages me about what a pounding he’s giving Daemon and I laugh, telling him he isn’t supposed to be one of my shipping friends.

What follows just shows I am a corrupting influence on those around me.

Hello. For the headcanons, is there a possibility to have times when Aemond couldn't control his body in regards to his wife?

⚜️ The first time is on their wedding night. Aemond likes to think that he is superior to most men. Reserved, controlled, educated, refined. Yet when faced with the naked form of his new wife for the first time in his bed he realizes he is no better than the rest of them. His baser instincts take over, and he just hopes it was pleasant for the both of them.

⚜️ Another, more common, time is after training. His heartbeat pumping in his ears. Adrenaline racing through his veins. That hot Targaryen blood running through him and his eye lands on his sweet wife, poised to bring him a cool towel and some comfort from the hot sun. Aemond would seek more than just comfort from her then.

⚜️ After he fights with his brother. It is not nearly as often, but Aegon is still very adept at needling him right where it hurts. Even if they are older now. He cannot strike his king but he can take his frustrations out on his wife. He would never hit her either, but a sharp smack on the rump while he mounts her will suffice. Aemond is always apologetic after this one.

⚜️ When she is pregnant with his child. There is something perverse about it that Aemond is aware of, but also something primal about seeing her great with child. He is drawn to her. Protective. Dutiful. But also incredibly aroused that she is growing their babe inside her and that she carries his legacy in her belly. Luckily at these times his wife is also incredibly eager for their marriage bed so this meets both their needs.

Headcanons about how Aemond would have turned out if he had been treated differently in his childhood?? Like no bullying, more stable relationship with Viserys, etc.?

⚜️If Aemond had a happy childhood, I think he would have turned out more like Daemon. In the sense more of his cheeky personality and less of Daemon’s pettiness.

⚜️He never would have claimed Vhagar, but would probably still be a dragon rider with one of the younger, sleeker dragons from the pit.

⚜️He would still have taken up the sword & trained as a hobby, but also taken up music with Helaena. Aemond would probably play the lute.

⚜️Still not much of a lothario like his brother but less shy around women.

⚜️He would probably hang out with his brother and his friends more; for better or for worse. They would often go tomcatting in the Silk district, but Aemond would still never really have an interest in it.

⚜️It would hurt him greatly to see his father in so much pain, or drugged up by the maesters at his mother’s request.

⚜️He would likely fight with Alicent more about this. Accusing her of taking advantage of his father’s failing health and being an opportunist.

⚜️He would be devastated when Viserys dies. Which would probably loop him around to the Aemond we all know, fueled by grief and anger to keep his father’s throne for them and not her.

Reasonable interpretation of canon: Corlys is a straight guy who can't imagine his son isn't a straight guy who is attracted to hot women with big dragons, just like Corlys himself.

More fun to me personally: Corlys is a bisexual guy who can't imagine his son isn't a bisexual guy who is attracted to hot women with big dragons, just like Corlys himself.

Ok so modern Alicent and Criston are definitely Catholics - church every Sunday, confession, the whole nine yards. Alicent has a photo of the Pope on the refrigerator. Aemond and Helaena are both also Catholics but in very different ways. Helaena is one of those witchy Catholics who still believes in God but also does tarot, whereas Aemond is a full-on tradcath. Aegon considers himself an atheist most of the time but prays whenever he’s at his lowest. Otto and Gwayne are definitely Catholic but nowhere near as devout as Alicent and she confuses them a little.

Rhaenyra is a nominal Catholic; she’ll go to church on Christmas Eve and Easter and generally believes in the concept of God but isn’t actively religious. Daemon sort of sees himself as a nominal Catholic but is more of an atheist. Jace, Baela, Rhaena and Rhaenys all more or less fall into the same category. Viserys and Corlys are the same as Otto and Gwayne.

Tyland is a Protestant (maybe Methodist?) because the Lannisters are WASPs. Orwyle is a chill priest. Alys is a wiccan, Larys and Mysaria are atheists. Hugh, Alyn and Addam are vaguely Christian and Ulf is an atheist.

HOTD Favorite Christmas Music + Movie Headcanons

Merry Christmas everyone! Wanted to post something Christmassey for them (also just want to post more HOTD headcanons) so here you go!

Rhaenyra: For music I think she’s a big fan of the pop classics: Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, Last Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is You. As for movies, I feel like she’s a fan of The Holiday (prefers the Jude Law/Cameron Diaz story) and Love Actually (prefers the Bill Nighy story).

Alicent: Her favorites are definitely the choral versions of all the classic religious songs: Silent Night, Hark The Herals Angels Sing, Do You Hear What I Hear etcetera. Also fond of Pentatonix’s version of Mary Did You Know? Her favorite Christmas movies are It’s A Wonderful Life and Meet Me In St. Louis.

Daemon: I feel like he doesn’t put a lot of thought into Christmas music: just puts some of the more modern songs on and calls it a day. Loves Die Hard.

Viserys: Loves all the classic crooner’s renditions of Christmas songs (Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Bing Crosby), as well as the score to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Also loves Miracle on 34th Street and It’s A Wonderful Life.

Otto: Also a crooner guy, and that’s pretty much all he’ll listen to. Enjoys the movie White Christmas.

Aegon: Loves that one Trans-Siberian Orchestra song (you know which one I’m talking about). Loves Krampus, Home Alone, Die Hard, Violent Night, cries to It’s A Wonderful Life and unironically enjoyed Red One.

Helaena: She just has the Phoebe Bridgers Christmas songs on repeat all December, and is also fond of Silent Night. As for movies, I feel like she really loves those classic stop-motion television specials, especially Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.

Aemond: He does not strike me as a super Christmassey guy, but I can see him enjoying the more religious aspects of it - so same as his mom for the music, and declares The Hateful Eight his favorite Christmas movie.

Baela: All I Want For Christmas Is You and Santa Tell Me lover. Her favorite Christmas movies are Die Hard and The Holiday (prefers the Jack Black/Kate Winslet story).

Rhaena: Loves Fairytale of New York, the Phoebe Bridgers Christmas songs, White Winter Hymnal and Laufey’s cover of Winter Wonderland. As for movies, she loves Tangerine and The Holdovers.

Jace: Likes 80s Christmas music (Last Christmas, War Is Over, Wonderful Christmastime), and is yet another Die Hard fan.

Luke: Enjoys the secular classics (ie Jingle Bells) and Last Christmas. Loves Home Alone and A Christmas Story (but gets uncomfortable when Ralphie thinks he’s shot his eye out).

Rhaenys: I honestly feel like she has very diverse taste; she enjoys a bit of everything (classic, modern, religious, secular). Though if I had to guess, I’d say that her favorites are The Christmas Song and White Christmas.

Corlys: Yet another crooner guy, and I think he enjoys It’s A Wonderful Life and White Christmas.

Larys: Listens to the score from any Christmas themed horror movie. Loves Black Christmas and Eyes Wide Shut.

Alys: Listens to the horror scores as well, but also Christmas themed Gregorian chants and Weird Al Yankovic Christmas parodies. Also loves Black Christmas and Eyes Wide Shut. She and Larys watch them together every Christmas Eve.

Mysaria: I feel like she loves the modern pop songs - Santa Tell Me, Underneath The Tree, All I Want For Christmas Is You. As for movies, I think she’s another The Holiday lover (prefers Jack Black/Kate Winslet) but my random headcanon is that she watches a bunch of Hallmark movies every year and ranks them with a set of very strict criteria.

Criston: Choral versions and crooners exclusively. Loves Miracle on 34th Street.

For those who are also confused and let down that HotD gave a Targaryen prince what is basically a medieval single dorm, here's the map I made for my own fic-writing reference of Aemond's suite, based upon what little we saw in the actual aired show and my research into medieval royal apartments.

It's not visible beneath the balcony, but the "main entrance" to the apartments is on the South side of the courtyard space.
