THANKS FOR THE FOLLOW!! I love your art it's precious! Hey can I ask you a question about your tongue piercing? I'm thinking about getting one myself and I'm wondering what it was like/has been like for you?
AA!!! THANK YOU!! I’m just gonna dump my entire experience so far here and i hope to can answer any questions you may have about it? If not feel free to ask!!!
This bad boy is only 11 days old, so its still kinda healing, they are one of the fastest healing piercings; only taking 2-4 weeks to heal, but let me tell you, this has been the easiest piercing I have to date (not that i have a lot but ya know). Straight up? It barely hurt to get done.
Okay this is gonna be a weird description but like?? Have you ever been eating a hand candy? and like there’s a bubble in the hard candy and you lick it accidentally and like slice your tongue a little on the edges of the bubble? That’s about how it feels? A vaguely noticeable pinch and slide and you’re done.
The worst parts are going to be days 2-4. The bar is going to be so fucking long, your tongue is going to be so fucking swollen. I was able to talk pretty easily, I only had a bit of a lisp for a small section of Day 2, but eating was hellish. It doesnt hurt so much as it, unsurprisingly, feels like a really sore muscle, like someone keeps poking a bruise. I recommend very soft foods, (oatmeal, mashed potatoes, pasta) but try and stay away from dairy, or if you do consume any, make sure to rinse very thoroughly. Dairy is bacteria's’ wet dream. Infection is the last thing you want.
Taking any pain medicine with anti-inflammatory shit in it will be your godsend.
ICE WATER. IS A BLESSING YOU NEVER REALIZED YOU HAD. It will really help the swelling, plus you wont have to rinse all the time.
And thats where the fun part comes in. Cleaning and care. It really isnt that hard, more annoying than anything. After every meal and every snack you have to rinse with mouthwash (alcohol free if you can, if not, water down ur regular stuff) You also have to rinse every time you drink something that isn’t water. I suggest getting one of those lil travel sized bad boys and just keep refilling it everyday to carry around with you. So if your at school or out with friends or at work, you have a way to rinse.
By day 5 i was completely free from any swelling, and the soreness was starting to go away, at that point the worst of the pain came from bumping the jewelry around in my mouth so often now that the swelling was going away and from trying to move it fresh in the morning.
So day 11 now; I still have a bit of an ant-hill going on, which is basically like, an indent where the top ball sits on your tongue during all the swelling, with a white ring around it from a bunch of scar tissue. that WILL fall off, but it isn’t a pleasant sight to see while it’s there lmao. Trying to scrub it off with a toothbrush will only cause more irritation. I’m planning on either today or later in the week going back to my piercer and buying a shorter bar to replace this long ass one with, which you should wait until all the swelling is gone to replace the annoyingly long one with.
Thats all i can think about off the top of my head? If you want to know more about the actual piercing process, or after care or whatever else I might have missed, i’m more than happy to help! I 100% recommend getting your tongue pierced, it’s so worth it and its so cool, even if it comes with a lot of people side-eyeing you for it, lmao.
