La ville d'Houffalize, endroit stratégique pour l'approvisionnement des troupes allemandes pendant la contre-offensive des Ardennes, a été sévèrement bombardée par les alliés pour paralyser tout mouvement ennemi.

Le Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf G «Panther» immatriculé 401 de la 116e Panzerdivision (Greyhound Division) soufflé par une bombe dans l'Ourthe Orientale a été remis en état et est le témoin du martyre de la ville sur la place du Roi Albert.
