Whispers Underground
As always, I’m loving Ben Aaronovitch’s writing. 30 pages in and the excitement for what this book holds is already starting to creep in. “Zap,” I said. “That’s the technical term for it, is it? What do you call someone who’s been zapped?” “Mr Crispy,” said Kumar. “That’s the best you guys can come up with?” Kumar shrugged. “It’s not like it’s a major priority.”

It is now 2:21 pm here, the readathon ends at 5:00pm and I have to go to school at 3:45 pm...*groan* but I am now on page 322/425 and hopefully I can finish it before the readathon ends!
Best of 2014 (for me)
Best Non-Fiction Book of Your Reading Year: Are you My Mother by Alison Bechdel. I fell in love with Fun Home, a prequel to this one, and had to read this. Bechdel is a fellow second gen, and I love her memoirs in graphic novel form.
Best Children’s Book of Your Reading Year: Through my Eyes by Ruby Bridges. I know this again isn't a "new book", but I recently read this book to a group of mainly black children for black history month here in Nova Scotia. As a white woman reading this book to these children it was an eye opening experience. Hands down the best kid's book I've read this year.
Best Fiction Book of Your Reading Year: Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders by Samuel R Delaney. I have so much to say about this book, but I can't put it into words. Delaney opens his readers up to a whole new world, one that exists but we never venture into. I didn't want this 900 page book to end, but it did and I was left with a gaping hole in my heart when I had to leave these characters.
Best Main Character of Your Reading Year: Eric Jeffers, Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders by Samuel R Delaney
Best Supporting Character of Your Reading Year: Morgan AKA Shit, Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders by Samuel R Delaney
Best Author of Your Reading Year: I'm kinda behind on this one, but I just discovered Neil Gaimen. How this man slipped by me before I will never understand. But he did, so he's my Best for this category.
Best Indie Author of Your Reading Year: I suppose you can count Delaney in this category. Well I am, not sure if he belongs here or not.

An hour of Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and 45 minutes of Final Fantasy XIII bored me to death of games for the day. I think it's time for me to watch like 10 episodes of Merlin for the next 7 and 1/2 hours.
