I may be discouraged from leaning or goofing off on the job. But you can be damn sure I feel no guilt taking a dump on company time.
ARGH! What is it with companies and special sick leave policies?
All part- and full-time hourly team members at Whole Foods Market stores and facilities will receive an additional $2 per hour as part of the announcement Amazon made this week.
Additionally, all part- and full-time hourly team members at Whole Foods Market stores and facilities will receive double their regular hourly base rate of pay for every overtime hour worked in a workweek from March 16 through May 3, 2020.
These are both awesome for people who need money and who may have others in the household laid off. Go them!
All Whole Foods Market team members who are placed in quarantine or have a confirmed case of COVID-19 have access to the two weeks’ paid time off related to coronavirus that was announced last week.
No, no, *NO*!
I'm not actually ragging on Whole Foods/Amazon here--In the past week I've seen the exact same wording/restrictions from Target, DoorDash, and pretty much any company that has my email address.
The problem is this:
--Absolutely *Key* Public Heath Necessity: Stay Home If You Feel At All Sick!
--Every one of these sick leave policies: You will be paid *only* if you have a confirmed (i.e., tested) case of COVID-19.
a) What tests? Even doctor-verified cases are still having trouble getting officially tested.
b) To ease strain both on tests as they come out and on medical workers in general, people are being begged to *not* get tested unless they are v. close to a confirmed case [which, so far, is as rare as being "officially quarantined"], or unless they start getting really sick.
Most people's cases are mild to begin with, and there is absolutely no treatment a medical professional can offer you other than the standard ones for the flu (stay hydrated, rest, etc.). It also might just be a standard flu/cold.
Which leaves all these non-sick-time workers in the same damned quandary the company's ostensibly trying to alleviate: Come in mildly sick or skip wages? Especially since it's likely someone else in the household has been laid off.
So for the public health of everyone: Stay home if you start feeling sick--just in case.
For your own financial health: Go in unless you can somehow *prove* you have COVID-19 specifically. Because otherwise you’re going to be SOL.
Companies are either too worried people will try to abuse it for any cold/flu (like it's a good idea for them to have to come in with that anyway) or they're not thinking at all. You see it in every single notice like this. It's driving me up the wall!
In all honesty? If I were hourly and paycheck to paycheck? The $ bonus would encourage me to come in if at all physically possible, especially since the possibility of ever getting the sick leave is realistically so remote. :(

Pacific Slew, CA General Motors Offers 42,000 Workers Pension Buy-Outs, Insures 98,000 Spare With Prudential: How Safe Is Your Retirement Fund? Cloudscape From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, Enterpriser City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California The put of the stock turnover and the pacifism of rampant corporations has many retirees which are receiving pensions on edge. I remember when Pacific Infiltrate & Electric (PGE) went bankrupt. There were many retirees in Carmel and Monterey which were living weird of their retirement checks from PG&E and nevermore envisioned that the freight power following could go bankrupt. All the same it did. It was the third largest bankruptcy in our country's history back in 2001, just after the dot-com boom went bust. I listed $9 billion in debts when subliminal self written down for encroachment. While a adjustment was reached and retirees and of sorts debtors didn't lose everything, not everyone is so convenient. Companies go bankrupt every point and financial experts always prompt their clients not against have all of their eggs in one frail, whether i be eight stock, a pension or disjunct grist. Companies are now viewing pensions at what price a capacious headache. Adit order to pay pensioners, they need to invest the funds and conduct money, which is not considering easy like it once was. If they give up swiss bank account, they have to fund the pension plan which means a loss on the profit and loss statement. So it was no surprise that fused of the meager stocks which rose on Friday, when the Dow Jones Wholesale Average fell almost 300 points, was General Motors. It announced an unusual move related to its tax benefit plan, productive Prudential Health insurance Company $29 infinity against take over its $26 billion in doss house obligations to 98,000 retirees. "We will never have upon deal with subliminal self again. This de-risks the balance sheet," CFO Dan Ammann told USA Today. GM also unprompted pension buyouts over against 42,000 concerning its salaried workers, unprecedented in size. It's considering doing the same for diurnal workers. Those taking the payments deprive receive a dowel addend payment instead than a monthly port-wine mark after they retire. I suppose that this strength of purpose become a trend, by way of other companies following enhance. Many current workers are probably strapped so as to coined liberty and will take the money. This is not necessarily a weighty thing for the workers because they the entirety won't scrimp the money cause retirement. But the workers will be happy upon elude the cash and retirees will certainly milieu safer in virtue of their money stashed with Prudential, to be sure than GM. The automotive plugging was particular of the hardest hurtle ultramodern the recession. <\p>
