Three Tree
Glebe Pl, Chelsea
london, august 2019
I love walking around in Chelsea, I enjoy turning down every little street and alley, and losing myself in the admiration of the architecture in the houses and buildings.I like the white frames of doors and windows, the brick walls, the reflection on the crystal clear window panes and the glossy black metallic details on fances, doors, windows, external pipes, etc... I particularly like the bright contrast of colours and the bold facades that remind me of a punchy graphic.
The house tree, the tall and rare, only the richest can afford ladders big enough to reach the ripest houses.
Ok how random (or magical?) is that:
my boyfriend applied for a job as an online marketing manager at a real estate company. The company’s name is reminiscent of the German word for oak (Eiche) or its fruit acorn (Eichel). Their logo is very minimal — just two lines meant to represent a roof, with the slogan: “Everything under one roof.”
I said it would be much nicer if their logo included an oak or acorn — or even better: in the past, many old houses had a so-called “house tree,” planted as a kind of symbolic protector (a bit mystical, but also practical — offering shade and protection from harsh weather). So why not create a logo that combines a house with an oak as its “house tree”? I thought that was quite a lovely idea.
And then today, at work, I received a letter from a property management company informing us that their senior boss had passed away. And now take a look at their logo:
Call me a witch.
