It's actually a house that is the most important family in Game of Thrones that never makes an appearance. They were the Kings of the Reach from the Age of Heroes in antiquity (think of when the bible happened...then go back a couple thousand more years) all the way to the Field of Fire. The founder of the house was Garth Greenhand (hence the sigil), the Westeros X-rated version of Johnny Appleseed. This guy was so fertile that women would get pregnant by sitting on his dirty laundry. He was so fertile he could reverse menopause just by giving the crones a wink and a nod. He's so fertile he urinates photosynthesis. The guy liked to plant food and fuck is what I'm trying to say. In fact, many of the houses in the Reach claim descendency from Garth including the Hightowers, the Redwynes and the Florrents. I've always pictured the Reach as the California of Westeros; it's warm, it's densely populated, and it's filled with fruit orchards. People of the Reach are the closest thing Westeros has to hippies. And because GRRM likes to be an asshole at times, most of the Gardeners had names that started with G, starting with like 26 Garths.
