A look back at House of Cards Season 3 - It’s All About Underwoods
You must have completed all 13 episode of House of Cards Season 3 by now. No this one isn’t going to be started with some fancy words, demonstrating the cold attitude of Frank, with comparatively increased intelligence of everyone in this third season. It was important for them, because Frank’s White House madness must have sophistication, for which they must be more intelligent in their dirty plays.
With this slightly low introduction, resembling to the slow start of Season 3, it’s good to ask, did you watch House of Cards on Netflix? I mean, did you binge watch the 677 minutes of pure politically twisted drama? Or you took the dose episode by episode? Whatever the case is, most of you must have finished it up by now, and those who haven’t yet, will be ending it soon.
It’s All about the Battle of Underwoods
Frank is not anywhere in the good thirty minutes of the first episode, though he give us his ruthless behavior, especially in the scene where he visits his father’s grave. The line he tells us:
“I wouldn’t be here if I had a choice… you have to be a little human when you’re the president”
And then he comes up with his real attitude back again. The scene I’m referring must have been seen by everyone. Yeah it is the scene where Frank pees on his father’s grave, specifically the tombstone where the name is written. Then he returns to his nasty dark White House business.
Season 3 is politically very sound, as Frank’s White House is a place of egocentricity, dishonesty, and insincerity, where everyone is intoxicated with the darkness of power. We can’t miss Claire Underwood, who begins to give Franks chills in the end of the first episode. Now, Frank actually list down his enemies, where Claire is the least anticipated, yet the most lethal one.
Frank’s line of being human does not only reflect his actions that he has to do, but it also directs towards what he can’t do now. Yeah, he can’t just murder his enemies like he did in the past. We wish Frank wouldn’t have killed Zoe Barnes, as she was a talented one to become a threat for Francis Underwood. But being a president and have million eyes on him, he can’t just finish off his enemies in a snap.
The previous seasons were Frank’s omnipotence, where there was nothing that’s stopping him. But things were different here in the third season. The show is now a mature one, where the sophistication is elevated in the war of power between Underwoods. It was much needed in this season, because Frank is now the president and it is time for him to learn more about bowing down.
His attitude of ‘by hook or by crook’ is different now and it was important, as the 2nd season had Frank being unstoppable. It was good to see the fall in the ruthless attitude of Frank. No! It not like we didn’t like Frank in the previous seasons, but man changes, when he earns what he had been thriving for. And in this case, Frank had to change, as he noted in the beginning “if he had a choice”.
Well, if you had been busy on 27th February to stream House of Cards Season 3, then you must have come across with ending by now, because the show just got better, as it always was. The unorthodox couple of Frank and Claire again amazed us with their tensed and ambiguous relationship. The flow of the show is just too good, as every character is playing the roughed up non-physical, but brutal, fights and these include Frank’s strive to thrive as well.
In the end we get it again, a year long wait to see what’s coming next. Though the ending was unexpected, as no one could anticipate the ‘Frank’s re-election’ would take place. Meanwhile, we can just run the marathon again, so its taste doesn’t go away (which is difficult).
