#JewelledJuly Day 13- The Cullinan V Brooch/The Further Star of Africa, Garrard & Co., 1911- diamonds and platinum
Featuring the fifth- largest stone in the series of Cullinan chippings, this pieces features the Cullinan V diamond at the centre of an elaborate heart- shaped filigree setting.
Originally part of Queen Mary’s famed emerald and diamond stomacher, this piece was designed to have many uses, and was alternately worn as a necklace pendant or as a brooch. Queen Mary also wore it on her Consort’s Crown, and on one of her smaller tiaras.
Cullinan V, in its original setting, became part of Queen Elizabeth’s inheritance when Queen Mary passed away in 1953. Not one for stomachers, Her Majesty always wears it in her traditional brooch fashion.
This is one of Her Majesty’s favorite brooches, and out of all the Cullinan diamonds, this is the piece that she has she has used most often, wearing it on numerous occasions throughout her reign.
Cullinans V may not be as big or as spectacular as it’s predecessors, but it’s an extremely pretty jewel, and weighing just under 19 carats, this diamond certainly cannot ever be considered as shabby. @houseofgarrard #jewelledjuly #garrardandco #houseofgarrard #hermajestythequeen #queenelizabeth #cullinanv #cullinanvbrooch #fifthstarofafrica #famousdiamionds #famousgems #famousjewelry
