I'm going to London for the first time next month. What are some of your must-see places there?
What you should see ultimately depends on what you’re into, but here are some of my favorites:
Wellcome Collection - excellent medical permanent collection, phenomenal exhibitions and THE BEST GIFT SHOP EVER if you like sex and death.
The Old Operating Theater - get ready to get the hibbie-jibbies in the theater itself.
Wallace Collection - you’ll want to move in. Huge collection of Sèvres porcelain and a great tea in their cafe.
Leighton House - you’ll want to move in.
National Portrait Gallery - hotties.
Crypt cafe - across the street from National Portrait gallery and perfect for a cheap delicious bite to eat. On top of old graves.
Fortnum & Mason - the promised land of tea, jams and biscuits.
The Wolsley for high tea - delicious deco chinoiserie. Everything is tasty. Make sure to visit the amazing post box on the way to the bathrooms.
Spitalfields Antique market (Thursday mornings) - good luck to your bank account.
Beau Brummell statue at the Burlington Arcade - give him a hug, put flowers in his hat.
Regent’s Park - especially when the rose garden is in bloom.
Sherlock Holmes Museum - because duh. I don’t care how touristy that is. You have to find the shell chicken and play with the Baskerville diorama.
V&A - hotties.
Sir John Soane’s Museum - Hoarders: Regency Edition. You’ll want to move in.
Gay’s the Word - independently owned LGBTQ bookshop with a wonderful history section and a shelf of rare and out of print books (including some ridiculous pulp). Please buy everything and keep them in business.
Cabaret at Scarfes - if you can, catch this stellar show. It’s at the stunning Scarfes Bar inside the Rosewood Hotel. You won’t be sorry.
Have fun!
